Yes, I have a hard time "coming down" after this month and going back to watching "normal" movies.
Anyway, thanks for another great month! After I get some time to have some perspective, I might make a list of "bests...best new movie, best discovery, scariest movie, worst movie, etc. I hope some of you guys do this too.

Yes, I'll be posting my final reviews soon along with a best/worst list at some point. Lovely Molly was a pretty sweet flick, wasn't it? Hopefully, you watched the stuff included in the extras. They provide different possibilities of why Molly eventually loses her mind and they explore each one in documentary fashion. Very cool addition to the movie as many things were left unexplained. With regard to the question you posed earlier.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
The handheld stuff is Molly taking video of the neighbor lady and her family. She is slowly stalking her because she knows her husband is cheating on her with the neighbor and she plans to get revenge by killing her daughter

65- Beetlejuice. I'm not a Burton fan but I like this movie. It has zero Helena Bonham Carter or Johnny Depp in it so it's close to 5 stars already. I hate the character Glenn Shadix plays and pretty much hate anybody that looks like him or has similar mannerisms, basically Otho type people suck. Besides that it's funny, spooky, and is very original.

Agreed. However, I actually like Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp but their appearences together have become tiring.

I'll have to pick up that DVD, as I watched this on Netflix streaming and had no access to the extras. Thanks for your explanation about the handheld camcorder scenes, but I was wondering more specifically about Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
why she was often taking video of the ghost of her father? Was it so she could show it as proof that she wasn't crazy?

That would be my guess, yes.

I don't recall that we ever actually saw anything in those recordings, only the noises she was hearing but her hubby never heard them. I thought that was just another example of her convincing herself it was real.

I've added a couple more images from my costume to the video and updated the link in the last page or linked in my sig. Did I mention how effing exhausted I am today?

I need to go back and watch Lovely Molly again I guess.

Wizz, nice outing! I don't recall if you already answered this question, but does that restaurant embrace the Friday the 13th culture at all? Perhaps an Axe-Murderer Meatloaf on the menu?

smile.gif Nope nothing. That would be neat though. I think 90% of the customers are over 70 and from the older living condos next door. Hehee.

Great job! Makes me wish we were neighbors. Since I live out in the rural section where houses are acres and acres apart, I let the little one trick or treat with my girlfriend's daughter and her friend while the little lady and I handed out candy in their neighborhood. Surprised how many houses went all out with the outdoor decorations. This was probably the more popular one. It was constantly surrounded by kids and adults. Here it is with not too many gawkers:

Cool! One of the things I'd like to do some year is to "costume" my house somehow to make it look scarier. I've seen people board up their windows and stuff like that, I would like to make mine look like a haunted house. But it would be a pretty big project so it keeps getting pushed back another year. Also, I have a brick house so it is difficult to fasten objects to the outside without drilling mortar holes, which I'm not sure I want to do!

Oh man, the things we could come up with! That yard looks great!

I was actually thinking of duplicating the yard from Trick r Treat next year with all the ghosts on 2x4's... would be relatively inexpensive and is pretty cool visually. My daughter asked me to do a happy haunt next year and while I will still do my gore thing I think I may do a separate one for her Disney style. Would love to do something for the younger kids with Jack Skelington, hitchhiking ghosts, etc. We'll see what I can afford but broke my heart when she asked so I will make something cool for her.

They make brick clips. Fits in the joints but drilling the holes and putting anchors in is more permanent.

That's alot of work and congrats on a fantastic job! I feel a little fresher than normal - because I was not up late watching movies! tongue.gif

My seven year old made quite a haul and my wife offered her $20 for the candy. She said no. "$50?" "No!" tongue.gifbiggrin.gifeek.gif

My wife and I discussed the same thing last night. Putting ghosts in the yard and adding a ton of differently carved pumpkins.

Yeah, little daughters are like that. The best laid plans of mice and daddies.

As promised, the daughter got to watch "Poltergeist" last night. No need to review since we've all seen it. I thought she'd want to sleep with me or have a night light on after viewing it. Nope, crawled under the blankets and went sound asleep. A hard night of trick or treating will do that to a kid.

Through her POV or the husbands?
Almost forgot one that I saw Saturday night on my buddy's horror show that he does on Saturday night at 11:30PM on the ABC affiliate:

The Brain That Wouldn't Die (1962) - Another one of those 50's/early 60's movies that used to creep me out as a kid. Down and dirty, a scientist gets in a horrible car accident that decapitates his girlfriend. She must be something special because he takes her head back to his laboratory where he's able to revive it. Things start getting weird as only a Hollywood script can. Against her wishes (she wants to die - damn it) the doctor looks for a suitable body for his girlfriend, she becomes telepathic and is able to communicate with a murderous creature that the good doctor has experimented on. You get the drift. As far as childhood horror films were concerned, this ranked right up there with "Invaders From Mars." Watching it, I think I laughed more than anything else. Favorite part is when he taped the mouth of his girlfriend's head shut. I'll give it 1 1/2 headless Zombies.

Hers. I thought that she was taking video when this happened, but maybe it was simply a regular, point of view cam.

Just an FYI to Kenobi and everyone else, Lowe's is discounting some of there Halloween inventory up to 70% off. Might be a good time to see if they have anything to add to your outdoor set-ups. Link here:

Halloween Double-Feature:

31. Trick 'r Treat (2007)- {4/5} Blu-ray This movie just keeps getting better. Perfect for Halloween Night. Previous impressions stand, but the old rating had to get bumped up to a 4.

32. House of 1000 Corpses (2003)- {4.75/5} Blu-ray Nothing new to report on this one. One of my favorite movies of all-time and a standard part of October Horrorfest. I should add that the blu-ray picture quality is absolutely stunning! Easily among the best that I've seen.

Best/worst lists coming soon. For those that had Halloween postponed, I think I'll stick with ya and keep things rolling through the weekend. Had a couple of horror flicks arrive in the mail yesterday that need to be watched. wink.gif

I watched it, enjoyed the one guy that was serious about it but wth is up with the fat lazy kid making fun of dad trying to put on a haunt with his age and arthritis!

Caught up on Dexter tonight...great season so far. There is at least some good to this month coming to an end... my DVR is packed with Dexter, Walking Dead, Face Off, Hot Set, American Horror Story, and I recorded The Others. Also next Tues is Halo 4 and the Tues after that is Black Ops II. I really need to grow up at some point.

I had a hard time deciding on a "best overall", so I left that category out. I'm not big on giving movies ratings, since a lot of times these things change over time, or often I'm just not sure what to think about a movie until some time has passed. Each of these movies (except the worst) I would happily re-watch.

Best foreign: I Saw the Devil
Best theatrical: Frankenweenie (okay, this was the ONLY theatrical movie I saw)
Best newer discovery: The Innkeepers
Best classic: The Curse of Frankenstein
Scariest: The Silent House (La Casa Muda)
Most fun: Cabin in the Woods
Weirdest: Mystics in Bali/Santa Sangre (tie)
Worst: Witchcraft

"I really need to grow up at some point."

I have several axioms I live by in my line of work. My favorite is, "Growing old is manditory, growing up is optional." wink.gif

In other news, high speed Internet has finally come out to the boonies where I live in the form of AT&T U-verse. People at work laugh when I tell them I'm on dial-up but I have to point out that a little over 40% of the country is. Looking forward to next week so I can get everything hooked up. Who knows, maybe do a little streaming, too.

Went to Blockbuster last night to go out with a bang. I was looking for one of the recommendations made here when I noticed the "4 for $20" blu-ray sales table. Picked-up four expensive blu-rays on my list for a song. Unfortunately, none were horror although I toyed with the idea of snatching up "Insidious." Kind of funny. Went from a month of horror to "Tangled" last night. Talk about a cinematic jolt. eek.gif
post #3659 of 4937
Whew! Now that October is over this topic will be readable again. I usually read it for recommendations but during October it's bragging about what movies you've all watched. BTW, Netflix WI has added a bunch of Mario Bava horror flics. I was just noticing how the new season of American Horror Story is more like Italian Horror Story in style which is just fine with me. American horror can be quite lame compared with Italian, British, Thai, Japanese, Korean, .... biggrin.gif
post #3660 of 4937
I don't look at it as "bragging", just exchanging information. I welcome the tips I get this time of year.

Some of my favorite movies this month were the foreign ones, but I've always been a sucker for foreign movies. I have both volumes of the Mario Bava Collection sets that were released several years ago.

I had a good find in the used DVD bin today: the William Castle Film collection. Some great cheesy horror gimmick films there!
