My thought on the only common link was who in the hell was collecting those tapes.
Exactly, and that is why I kept waiting for it all to come full circle.
It would have been an awesome trick, to say the least.
In fact, I am kinda surprised they didn't....it was hinted at all thru the movie.
Oh well, still a fun flick.

That's what killed it for me. Trick R' Treat did a great job with that and VHS appeared as it intended to do the same thing but fell completely flat at the end when it didn't.
Adam Wingard was a director for one of the stories so I chose to watch his A Horrible Way to Die which he mentioned in the commentary. Though not really horror and more a thriller I enjoyed it (not for the shaky cam haters though). What's funny is that after watching "Jack Frost" on NF last week I decided to catch "Jack Frost 2" a 2000 sequel on Infinity but it was an early HD camera movie and back in 2000 those cameras were so bulky and must not have come with lenses where DOF could be used to make it look more film like. I gave up on it because it lacked the cinematography they could have done with a more flexible camera and it really DID look like a soap opera. After that a couple other films looked too soap opera too even though shot with video. One was "Wreckage" which early on told me it might be a dog even with Aaron Paul because of a very long opening credits and the arc drug. So wound up with "A Horrible Way to Die". Followed by "DIEner" which reads like someones play redone as a film (IOW lots of dialog).
+1
Best anthology since Creepshow IMO... bloody good fun.
Excellent little movie.
VERY well written horror, hats off.
Glad you guys talked me into giving this another go!
I wouldn't call it a true anthology, as it ties everything to everything in the end....more like vignettes IMO.
No matter, this is a movie that should be in regular rotation every Halloween for us horrorphiles.
Possibly the long opening credits is a throwback to old movies?
But old movies didn't have opening credits that ran as long as they do in "Wreckage". For many indie movies its because they didn't quite have enough content for 90 minutes ("Wreckage" is 86 minutes) so they run the end credits very slowly.
what a buzz kill this flick is. Really well done fx and production values, but the sickeningly sweet, true love crap of the bride and groom was hard to take - over and over... Classic set up for a survivalist Zombie (ish) flick but none of the characters ever stood out or stood for anyhting. As soon as one character stands out, Pfft, they are offed in an anti-climactic way that adds to the buzzkill tone of the movie. The "heroes" never really do anything victorious and the ending, again, is a buzzkill.
REC 3 only gets a "fair" rating from me.
OTOH, the other 2 are as good as horror gets.
I haven't even bothered with it... it seems such a departure from the other two that had a story with plenty of remaining potential. I have no idea why they just left it behind and made "another zombie movie". In related news santa brought me a couple sweet shirts for Christmas

The shots of the creatures in the mirrors was very cool and creepy. The rest was just off.
Agreed the first two are very good.

Very cool shirts. Would be interesting to see which generates more comments from passers by. If you didn't know about the two franchises, most would not notice anything different than just a shirt.
After comments here and checking the reviews I decided to finish watching "Wreckage" on Showtime because Netflix was bonkers again last night. Reviews said that it was indeed lame until Aaron Paul shows up at about 20 minutes into the film. And that is true. Another film worth watching which I also caught on Showtime VOD is an intelligent apocalyptic film called "Perfect Sense" with Eva Green and Ewan McGregor. No zombies but people going crazy as each sensory organ goes defunct due to an epidemic.
Nice t-shirts....
I have a few Z shirts in my closet too...got kinduva fetish for "message" t-shirts.
Ha, me too. I save my favorites ones for Disneyland trips. Snaking through all those lines gets some great looks on some of the ones I have.

Which franchise has more fans now?
Walking Dead by far.... AMC has really made 99% of cable and a good bit of Hollywood horror look as bad as most of us know it is.
5. "La chambre des morts" (Room of Death) - While on a joyride with the headlights turned off, two men hit and kill another man carrying a satchel full of money. The two men decide to take the money and throw the body into a pond and bury the money in a coal hill. The next morning the police discover the body of a kidnapped 12-year blind girl, Melody, in a warehouse near the site of the hit-and-run.
Inspired by 'The Silence of the Lambs' (there's even a little nod to it with the main character having the novel on her bookshelf) this French horror/thriller (more thriller than horror though) was my best film of the day. Go into to it was no more information than what I've said above and let the film pull you in.
3 1/2 Zombies.
Just caught this one the other day. Features the actress who played the revenge-seeking theater owner in Inglorious Bastards. I agree that this was a pretty solid film.
The plot involves a family of young vamps who have to leave the country after being discovered doing their dirty deeds.
They end up going to England to seek refuge with possible blood relations, but it doesn't go as planned.
There are some hotties, skin, and plenty of gore.
Amazon has the BD for 13 bucks and I just couldn't resist.

I watched Perfect Sense the other day, also. Not a bad movie, although slow in parts.
