"Barrio Tales" on Netflix WI is a good watch. There are three "tales" in the film and I liked the first one the best.

Ok, boss, I just watched this tonight and really liked the atmosphere and tension but was left scratching my head at the end. Help me out here... I know the obvious explaination but is there something more they were hinting at? I kinda hope so because if not it was almost spoiled by the cliche ending if you get my meaning.

Anyone else want to chime in on this one????

As for anthologies, I am for more interested in Theater Bizarre 2 after learning of the talent behind the upcoming sequel!

From bd.com

‘Inside,’ ‘Martyrs’ Filmmakers Highlight ‘The Theatre Bizarre 2: Grand Guignol’ Directors!!

“After the critical success of the first Theatre Bizarre anthology, it felt only natural to follow yp with another serving of more over-the-top, brutal, visionary, envelope-pushing tales. And this time, carte blanche was given to the creme de la creme of French directors, who were all very happy to take Grand Guignol back to its original birthplace.”

The entirely French sequel features some of the countries best talents, including Frontier(s)‘ Xavier Gens (still in talks), Inside and Livide‘s Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, Territories‘ Olivier Abbou, Enter the Void writer Lucile Hadzihalilovic, and Martyrs director Pascal Laugier

I watched it last October, it had probably 2 solid entries in it but I think given the talent behind the next one we will see some magic.

Watched the prequel to The Thompsons last nite entitled The Hamiltons:

A teen angst snoozefest IMO....don't bother with this one.
The DVD is crap to boot.
However, do see The Thompsons, a fun little vamp movie.

Lemme guess the two stories Gen Kenobi liked from The Theatre Bizzare...was it Vision Stains and Sweets? biggrin.gif

Anyone see "Mama"? It wasn't bad, not necessarily a classic but effective in places. I'd give it a B.
No not yet, but I can tell you that the commercial for it with the non-stop "mama" whisperings throughout, really turned me off. Talk about friggin annoying.

Because of the bizarre visuals, we decided to give Silent Hill:Revelation a run last night after our Valentine's flick. We should've known better. Ejected that **** before we hit the 30 min mark.

Hope Sinister gives better results. Comes out next week I believe. A few friends said that it was really good.

Watched PA4 and I though more was going to be revealed? Oh well had a couple of scares but the rest was forgettable. Hopefully I can rent Sinister next week from Redbox. I have been hearing good things about that film.

Thanks for the heads up on Silent Hill: Revelation, I was going to rent that today, but instead I will watch something else.

A coworker of mine saw it and gave about the same grade.

I was a little under the weather this weekend and just laid around getting in movies. I did Werewolf:beast among us and Creature. I had heard good things about Werewolf on this thread and it did not disappoint. Not that it is amazing but it is solid across the board. Well cast, good effects/gore, great location and the writing was solid. The title really makes it sound like it is going to be lame and cheesy but it was very well done!

Creature is not as well done but for this kind of flic is head an shoulders above most other creature features like this and, again, very enjoyable. Kind of reminds me a little bit of Hatchet but played more straight up. These two and Dredd made for a very bloody good weekend of movies. smile.gif

Agreed, 4 is the weakest of the series if my memory is right. 2 and 3 were really fun.

4 was the weakest, agreed. I still enjoyed it, but expected a little bit more.

I watched a morning showing of "Dark Skies". I was expecting more horror but it went in a different direction than what I had expected (I knew nothing about this film aside from the commercial on TV). It seemed to have borrowed a lot of stuff from other movies I've seen (the one scary scene in Close Encounters, in particular). I found the fraying of the human relationships between the characters as they wonder if they're losing their sanity to be more interesting than the supernatural/non-natural elements of the movie, but it still wasn't really enough to justify the movie. B minus.

Just finished Sinister this afternoon, and I will say this movie was pretty good! This movie is a 'slow burn' type of horror/thriller film, some people might not like that but I enjoyed how the movie rolled along. Ethan Hawke's performance was great and I wished he did more films like this! This film was creepy enough and the way the film was edited made it seem like it had more gore than what was actually shown (my brain filled in the blanks). 4 out of 5 corpses.

Was this film a strong PG13? Just by seeing your post and the commercial I think I know where the film is going.

Bob, thanks for the review of Dark Skies, i was wondering about it, now i know!! Not enough horror for me i am sure.

I'll be doing PA4 tomorrow night. I started it last night but had a bad disc from NF. Is it just me or is the horror genre dry as a martini right now?

There's a couple of things out I want to see. Mama, ABCs of Death, and Sinister. Still got a ton of picks from last October to seek out. I might be burned out more than having a drought actually. October is rough smile.gif

Hell yea.

Yes, Evil Dead might just be the remake true horror fans can get onboard with... looks awesome!

Probably more "thriller" than horror but every movie I've seen since Storm Warning has me thinking the Aussie stuff is usually pretty solid.

Just finished up Sinister. I enjoyed it. Great lighting, dark scenes, and tight cinematography. The music was pretty damn good too. Really creepy for me. Almost no gore but plenty of disturbing images. It had me turning some lights on.

If it can be compared to anything I'd have to say The Ring but only loosely.

I'd agree with that. Although, I did find the investigative portion of The Ring to be more interesting simply because it spent more time with it. Sinister could have made up for that by delivering more substance when it came to the demon IMO.

Good to hear. One of my buddies who happens to be a pretty big horror fan was raving about Sinister after he saw it in the theater. With the all the negative feedback here, I was preparing for disappointment.

Making comparisons to The Ring is quite interesting. Count me in as soon as I can get my hands on the blu-ray.

Go in mid road, don;t expect gold or crap.

Yeah, mid road is a good starting place.
