Just saw Slither for the first time last week and Rooker has a very Rookeresque role and was reading the imdb board about it and many folks were commenting how much they like him and if he could just get that one good role that brings him to mainstream consciousness...

Love me some Slither! Yup he was perfect for the Grant role. I wonder if James Gunn had him in mind when writing it. Underappreciated film imo but has started getting some love on AMC.

Thanks Bob, I'm still jealous I'll never top your moment with a horror icon. Romero is the KING!

We're getting at least two sexy Vampire films this year. The Neil Jordan one looks interesting and now we've got Kiss of the Damned Coming to VOD on 3/28

From Magnet Releasing comes "a sly tongue-in-cheek tribute to old-school horror films, especially Tony Scott's "The Hunger" and "giallo" maestros like Mario Bava and Dario Argento" - Variety

^^
Cool. Wasn't there another vampire flick somebody else mentioned? Seems like a female lead?

Oh nevermind, Byzantium.

Doesn't look bad but Byzantium is the one I'm really excited about. Have you tried searching UK news feeds? I'm sure we'll be late to the party.

Though not a horror icon, but George Lucas was my next door neighbor when I lived in Mill Valley in early 1970. Even went with him once to Stinson Beach where he shot some 16mm footage with his Bolex.

For some people, episode one could count as a horror movie. wink.gif

But still as a star wars fan, its pretty cool that you lived neighbor to George.

That is HUGE! Hanging out with a young George Lucas while he's shooting film--that's like telling a 4-year old you just went for a ride in Santa's sleigh! Very cool, Brian!

That must've been awesome knowing George during that time! Also, I love that part of the Bay Area, Mill Valley, Marin, Sausalito!

CFX just posted their new additions for 2013... I think it's safe to say I will be selling mine and going zombie next Halloween.

Funny thing is I'm not good a remembering names but good at remembering faces. A year later I even saw "THX 1138" at the drive-in near my home town. I had seen an article about it in Newsweek but there were no pictures of George. And I didn't even know he was editing a film. I just thought he and Marcia were fledgling film grads. By the time that "Star Wars" came out and I first saw a picture of George (I didn't pay any attention to "American Graffiti") he had put on weight so didn't recognize him. In fact I read an article around 1980 on how film grads had given up and were doing other things such as real estate. Figured the guy I knew was doing that too (big wrong!) I finally figured it out around 1990 and got the unauthorized biography. During the 1990s I was involved in a consortium between Hollywood and Silicon Valley to get 3D animation taught in more colleges. I was on the steering committee and we were going to meet with George but only a couple of people did. Now that would have been fun. But one of my co-workers attended a Lucas Arts party and talked to George, mentioned my name and George said, "now there's a name from out of the past." George apparently is better at remembering names than I.

But then I'm in the entertainment business. The woman renting the house where I stayed in Mill Valley had Hollywood connections too. But we musicians were all into the rock scene and I've know a lot of famous musicians over the years. At that time too Tommy Smothers had bought a house in Mill Valley so we were wondering when we would run into him.

You're all going to get there soon enough! biggrin.gif

But then I guess I'm young at heart enough to find some of the low budget films by young folks interesting. That includes "Skew" which I watched last night on DVD. This film gets a lot of mixed reviews but I found it fairly interesting. Jury is out on whether it horror or psychological thriller. It's another film about guy who can't turn off his camcorder (a DV one in this case which only shoots 3:2) which annoys his friends but the camera is part of the plot.

This is becoming a familiar plot.

Just bought a nice slew of blu rays (I had a stack of unused Amazon gift cards left over from Christmas):

Alien Anthology (4 movies)
Paranormal Activity Collection (1 through 3)
I Saw The Devil
Battle Royale: The Complete Collection
A Serbian Film (Uncut) (DVD)
Vampire Circus
Drag Me To Hell
Night Watch (DVD)

Plus two that aren't really horror but certainly have horrific and weird elements:
The Holy Mountain
Enter the Void

I've seen all of these movies already except Paranormal Activity 2 &3, but these are some nice additions to my library...

Nice BD/dvd titles you bought for yourself! I still need to see Battle Royale and I Saw the Devil!

I did Silent Night, Sinister and Night of the Creeps over the weekend.

Sinister was about what I expected. Kids in this stuff always creeps me out and - always a downer for me.

Silent Night was fun. Kind of a throwback flic and pretty well made. Malcom McDowell was so bad he was funny. Not perfect, but still a pretty well made flic for a no name.

Night of the Creeps. I must have seen bits and pieces of this over the years but never sat down to watch from start to finish. The 80's vibe was running strong in this and most of the cast couldn't die too soon for me. Weird flic. Had a PG13 feel to it but lots of gore and gratuitous nudity. Ah, the 80's.

I watched The Bay late last night and I really liked this movie! I was itching and scratching myself because this film really gave me the hee bee jee bees lmao. I liked how they incorporated the real life parasite and Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
made it into a super mutant by all the **** the chicken farmers put into the water!
3.5 Cymothoa bugs..

I know what you mean, the conceit is overused as is the conceit "4 friends driving through..." What made the difference for me was when watching the trailer there were some exteriors. Another conceit used by filmmakers to lower the cost is little use of exteriors even if it is a road picture. This played a little more like a road picture. Same was true about "Amber Alert". Back in the1970s they used lots of exteriors because it didn't cost so much and there weren't so many rules.

Not a movie but the pilot was sure shot like one but A&E's "Bates Motel" episode 1 was very good. I hope they can keep it up.

Thanks for the reminder fellas. Just set the DVR to record the series, including the first episode. And yes, Vera is worth the price of admission alone (see Orphan, The Departed or Running Scared). Speaking of Orphan, its about time to give that one another spin. One of my favorite movies in recent years.

Not to keep plugging the Bates Motel show but just wanted to add: A&E isn't one of my go-to channels and I wasn't figuring on much graphic content. Horrorhounds need not worry. This show isn't pulling any punches! And anything you don't see on camera, your imagination will do the rest. Well executed horror.
