Nice work my friend! I suppose they were afraid to pick anyone else though, considering you already "whacked" a co-worker for nothing more than decorative purposes.

Which version did you get? I almost ordered a copy that Amazon reported to have the original Italian audio track with English subs but after a closer look it was the same version I rented which DID NOT have the Italian audio track with English subs. I'd like to find one but if it's too much of a PITA I may wait for blu

wizzack - lol, thanks! I actually already had someone ask me that at work and I thought "damn I dono"... maybe some white pillow cases soaked in blood tied and filled with "parts"... maybe an autopsy table with a satterlee bone saw... torso hanging from hooks? I have no idea but I'll have to one up myself for sure!

Okay I am thoroughly confused. When I watched Suspiria, I honestly thought they were speaking English as we listened to the Dolby Digital 6.1 mix. It just appeared that it was slightly out of sync with their mouths. Now people are posting that the original track is in Italian and they used English subtitles to go along with it. I thought that I had gone completely mad because I had not noticed that they weren't speaking English and I watched the whole damn thing!!

Well I did a little searching online and found that some of the actors were speaking English (Jessica Harper for one) while others were speaking in their native tongue (whatever that may have been since there were many different nationalities represented in the cast). After they all read their lines in their own language, the soundtrack was then mixed in the language that matched the country where they planned on releasing it. Very interesting, as far as I'm concerned. Is this common procedure when making certain films? At least I don't feel like such an idiot now, but I'm still floored that I didn't notice that some of the people weren't speaking English. Like I said, I just thought the soundtrack was out of sync.

If this is true, it certainly explains why I had such a hard time with the dialog. It was so choppy and unnatural; which makes perfect sense if they were speaking to each other in languages that the other couldn't understand.

Any thoughts/rebuttals on this?

According to star Jessica Harper since the film was going to be dubbed after principle photography, sound was rarely recorded during shooting. Harper remarked that it was strange to her to be in the middle of shooting a scene and hearing the background sound of a stage hand hammering away on another set in the studio.

Also, in an interview Jessica Harper said that many of the actors on set spoke different languages during shooting. According to Harper most either spoke Italian or German and it would make communicating difficult at times. However since the film would be dubbed for American release it was deemed not to be an issue during filming.

I believe the plan was to dub the film for which ever market they were selling it to.

Apollo I remember thinking something was up with Suspiria the first time I watched it.

In Argento's Four Flies on Grey Velvet the dialogue switched from English to Italian to English right at the end of it. Very confusing.

And then you have the other Euro horror movies where the ridiculous dialogue and dubbing is worth the price of admission on its own.

Well, got my replacement Suspiria disk. Put it in, and again it pixeled up and looked like it was locking up in the FBI warning, but this time it got past it then played okay. Anybody else have this problem?

Anyway, just like in my review of Inferno, i loved Argento's use of color, great sets, great camera angles, super camera work zooming in and out, its a real visual treat.

The movie itself I could have used a little more action, but overall a very enjoyable experience. For the three in the series, i would rate them in this order for my taste:

1-Mother of Tears
2-Suspiria
3-Inferno

Thanks guys for making me aware of Suspiria and Inferno, and also Deadgirl, which I really love.

Oh yeah, as to dubbing, only a couple of times did i really notice a problem with lip synching, overall i would say this was done very well on the disc i got.

That's crazy! All the stats listed are interesting. And sponsored by Troma? Now you're talkin'!

Maybe next year we can get a sponsor and change the thread title to AVS Horror Thon or something. Blue Underground anyone?

I finally got around to a couple movies on my list that were sidelined for others. House of 1000 Corpses and Bug... can't believe I hadn't seen either of these before. Bug was soso... interesting shots of Ashley Judd House of 1000 Corpses was pretty wild... pretty hard core, good flick to shock the next company I have over for a gore flick!

wizzack - I agree and hope we can at least get a mod to okay the creating of a new thread for next year.

Kenobi, wow, you NEVER saw House of 1000 Corpses? Thats a real classic. Its one of my top favorites.

I havent seen Bug as I am not big on insects, but really dont know much about the film. Is it full of bugs or what?

By the way, I just watched Saw 5 and it wasnt as bad as i had remembered it. I bought the dvd, and will buy Saw 6 when that comes out. I really like this series of movies, some people knock them, but there is something about them that i really dig.

I am already looking forward to a thread next October, whether its a new one or just a continuation of this one.

It is it all it sounds from the title. If you have Comcast it is free OnDemand HD right now and is worth a watch. I enjoyed it more than I expected but I watched it right after House of 1000 Corpses the same night so my senses may have been a bit numb I agree with Airboss, Ashley Judd did give one hell of a performance.

I finally got to peep The Girl Next Door over the weekend (missed it on my list). It was on Chiller and probably edited to death.

Even still, it was one of the most disturbing movies I've ever seen. I'm glad I saw the TV cut!

For me it felt like a mix of Frailty, Children of the Corn, and _________(insert your favorite torture flick).

Thanks for the recommendation guys. Or not!

Glad you enjoyed it. I have the dvd, I dont know what they may or may not have cut out of the movie to put it on tv. The dvd is really disturbing. Quite a watch for sure!

I have to thank you guys for giving me a heads-up on two train movies - TRAIN and MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN.

Last week i watched both on dvd and they were great.

Train, while knocked a lot by many who didnt care for the plot, really hit my spot well. I thought the train they were on was creepy as helll, the whole movie kept me in a tense atmosphere, there were great scenes of gore, i loved this movie.

Midnight Meat Train was really a much higher budget movie than Train. Fantastic effects on some of the gore, really unique shots of brutality that I think would be great in a 3D movie, but they were great in 2D. The whole movie was excellant, and finishes up with some surprises.

Both train movies really held my interest and i am so happy i ordered them.

Now i am waiting for PIECES to come, i have never seen that, and its on order from Amazon. I am in a bad habit of not renting, i just buy, and thats really stupid on my part. I gotta get involved with Netflix or go to Blockbuster or something. My wife just doesnt want another monthly bill. Of course, she doesnt look at how much a dvd costs to buy, which is what i have been doing. Ah, women........

yankeeman, you'll like 'Pieces'. Another one I know you would like is titled "Murder-Set-Pieces" and if you haven't seen it put it on your list of movie to see (be sure to watch the original 105 min. version or the 91 min Director's cut, not the very edited 83 minute version)!

I am insanely pumped this year. The weather is finally starting to cool off here in Dirty Jersey. Soon it will be time for good beers and entrails!

October 1st is a Friday - that could be dangerous.
