October fun: 31 days of Horror, Blood, Guts and Gore! (and zombies, too....) - Page 217

More zombie animation from my daughter (who just turned 8 today, happy birthday Jillian!) She wanted her mother and sister to get into the act, so here is "Overly Sensitive Zombie Girl" Episode # 2 where she meets the snobby girls:

Those girls were mean. She should have bitten their faces off. wink.gif

Gonna take my meds now. Pleasant dreams...

Despite what everybody said about WWZ I tried to remain hopeful. I did not succeed. There were actually parts of several probably good movies in there but not a solid single film.

Wiz, that's very funny.

BTW, how are things going with your "recovery?"

Bob, i love those zombie girl animations!!! WTG!!!

As to WWZ, my bluray just got here, i havent seen it yet, will check it out in October. I go in with low expectations due to comments here, so that means i will probably like it. When i go into a movie with really high expectations i am always disappointed.

Good news is it frees up a spot for something better in October.

The best sequence was in the lab.

I was wondering why the WHO lab wasn't more secure with vault doors and better automatic steel doors to lock out the Zombie/viruses? I was wtf is up with the glass doors?

Looks good on camera for one as it exposes the threat and adds the tension. I doubt it goes deeper into anything like we felt untouchable as a species.

I will agree that those scenes were shot nicely.

I did chuckle at the dr slipping on the ramp of the airplane because that is what exactly happens when water meets smooth aluminum that doesn't have any 3M anti skid sticker on it.

There was an iron gate and camera out front. :-)

That was the only sturdy barricade in the whole joint ha!

BUT you can't dwell on that. It's exclusionary and therefore evil. The glass doors and windows allow everybody the same opportunity to be killed as everybody else.

I'm having trouble narrowing my list down to just 31 movies this year! I'm glad I saw a lot of the heavy hitters in theaters this year already, I like digging up different gems from years ago. Here are some of the movies in the mix for me, no official list just yet:

Some Guy Who Kills People
Uzumaki
Excision
Midnight Son
Lunacy
Juan of the Dead
The Woman in Black
Eden Lake
Taxidermia
Splinter
Sleep Tight
VHS 2
The Tunnel
Otis
Absentia
John Dies at the End
The Awakening
Antiviral
American Mary
The Pact
The Snowtown Murders
Hell
Horror
The Bay
Mum & Dad
The Hamiltons
Dead End Drive-In
S&Man
Chained
Blood and Black Lace
Cure

Nice! Lots of solid picks in there! Really interested to hear some thoughts on Snowtown Murders... it is constantly recommended to me via NF or just as a trailer on other movies I've rented.

I tried to start a list but it felt like a chore so I stopped and had vodka. I guess I'll just wing it. Half the fun is searching. I do have a two DVD set with the following on it:

Night of the Blood Beast 1958
Night Fright 1967
She-Beast 1966
Last Woman on Earth 1960
Horror Express 1972
Die Sister, Die 1972
Good Against Evil 1977
Invasion of the Bee Girls 1973
Cat O' Nine Tails 1971
Memorial Valley Massacre 1988
Messiah of Evil 1973
Snake People 1971
The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave 1963
They Came From Beyond Space 1967

I will get to some of those surely. I always mine my older discs in the collection too.

Bob is the Splinter on your list this one?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1031280/

If so I liked it a lot. It fits right in with The Blob and Slither.

I watched a movie last night called Devoured and really liked it. It's a slow build, the the payoff is worth it. I highly recommend it!

The first 2/3's, or so, of the movie was great! The last third was a big meh, for me. The lab was well done, but by that time you KNOW how it is going to go down so kind of dragged for me. The very ending seemed kind of rushed, anticlimactic and too hollywood/cheezy.

Plus the wife really annoyed me. I was rooting hard for something to happen to her. And the two daughters were written very poorly. As a father of two daughters, I tend to be overly sensitive to kids in movies. But these two were written without any kind of pluck or redeeming value and made it even worse with the contrived asthma. The jagged metal through guts thing was a joke too. At least not as hokie as the latest Diehard flic where they just pull it out and go on without noticing it.
Still, was a really enjoyable flic and if the movie had stopped just after BP left Israel, I would put it up in a top 5, top 10 Z flic. Great job of still being intense, and "graphic", even with the pg13.

Start to finnish an awesome LFE workout. The grenade pulse broke the fabric covered frame I use to cover the subs on the left side of my room. Granted, the frame was not as strong as it should be but the strong pulse of air bent it inward at the middle where it was weak and cracked it. I had been meaning to re-do it properly but never got around to it. I have to know. LOL.

LOVED that part on the ramp. Did not see that coming. tongue.gifWarning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
of course it was there that I knew there was only going to be ONE hero in this movie

I had planned to save WWZ for October but was my thinking as well. Even with the crappy ending I would still give this 3 1/2 Zombies on Rhoids. A little better ending and is 4 1/2 for me.

I'd give it 3 1/2 CGI zombie's

That's WAY generous.

It failed even being a decent zombie movie.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
I know it was PG13 but they spent way too much time on moments like watching a zombie fall and hit a bunch of pipes instead of the cool **** like the one biting the bars as the door closed.

2 smashed testicles out of 5.

Here is my tentative list so far

The Things (1982 one and the 2011)
Blade Trinity
Event Horizon
Alien
Piranha (1978)
The Shining
The Conjuring
The Blair Witch Project
The Descent
Deep Rising
Halloween (1978 and RZ one)
Halloween 3
Hostel 2
The Strangers
The Mist
28 Days Later
Shaun of the Dead
From Beyond
VHS2
The Reeds
The Entity

Some classics thrown in as I watch those most Halloweens. This will be challenging to watch 31 horror flicks but I'm up for it!

Yeah I wanted WWZ to be more but reading the book did not help because my expectations were up a bit for this movie. But I did like the LFE and the flow of zombies.

VHS 2 is available for rent at the kiosks this Tuesday. It will probably be my Tuesday evening watch. I don't do the 31 days in October but demented enough to do about 300 during the year.biggrin.gif

With October I'll wind up near 331. smile.gif

Speaking of dementia, after October is done and nearly all of my viewing has been horror I usually go deep into comedy to balance out the dread.

I think I'm doing NOES and Phantasm marathons this year. I've never watched those back to back.

I am not making a list in advance. I do have a stack of about 12-14 horror movie dvds that have come in and i will probably watch most of them first, but i want to just wing it and watch what i feel like on any given day. I want to watch a lot of old favorites too, and pick them on the day i feel like.

I also will be away for 3 days and that might hurt my quest to make 31 movies for the month, but hey, gotta celebrate our 20th anniversary in style!!
