be back later but wanted to post these freebies before I forget:

DirecTV has another free preview of the HD Extra pack with HDNet, Uni, MGM, etc. It says from 10/3 to 10/10 but It's giving me an option for 3 months. ymmv

Also Crackle has a handful of decent flicks in the horror section:

The Lords of Salem - FAIL
My first eject of the month. High marks to RZ for style and atmosphere but the movie was crap in my humble opinion. I wanted to stop it several times but pushed myself to see if it could deliver in the last 20 min.... nope. I made it to the theater part and the various flash scene depictions on the stage and called it quits. I should have listened to my gut and oinked it after 30 min and maybe I wouldn't be pissed for wasting 80 mad.gif

Microwave Massacre
(1983)

Donald is unhappily married and hungry. All the poor guy wants is a “man’s” meal but all his annoying wife cooks up are these fancy schmancy dinners in their new Major Electric X1-74A microwave. The relationship doesn’t end well for these two and Don develops an insatiable taste for the other white meat. Totally trashy yet cute. C+

This film contains:
Big Ass Microwave
Boom Mic
Bodacious Boobs
Bad Recipe

Bonus: What's the coolest piece of a movie after its original one-sheet poster or box art? The title screen! I'm grading them for my own fun and doing screen shots for all the movies I'm watching and Microwave Massacre is worth sharing. Still early but it's the best one yet. biggrin.gif

Well look who is still up... y'all rawk.

I dono man, the only movie that I really give RZ full credit for is HOATC as it was original, disturbing, dark, interesting characters, etc. Although I liked his take on Halloween Carpenter had already laid the perfect foundation so can't give RZ too much credit there. Those are the only films of his that I have liked... safe to say I'm not a fan of the majority of his work I guess. That said the Salem Witch story is one that really needs to be told right... Mr. Wan, are you listening???

After feeling so unsatisfied from The Lords of Salem I had to get something else in and fortunately Species was on HDnet! Natasha Henstrage topless killing an all-star cast, how is that not awesome? Still a B movie but damn entertaining all the same!

wiz - when you say "man's meal" I was thinking something else wink.gif

Put aside your hatred of ethereal media and join the dark side. Way easier to oink streams and frees up the q for the more awesomer stuff.

You guys were jamming last night! Good stuff!

I went to sleep early because of a late night allergy headache, but I am getting back on my game this afternoon!

Sucks to hear Kenobi that you didn't like Lords of Salem, and at least you have HDnet to watch Species. biggrin.gif

Ugh, I would be worse off if I didn't take a Zyrtec and I still have remnants of this headache. Thankfully I don't have to go anywhere today and lots of movies to watch! I will have a horror break today to watch The Little Mermaid with the family.

The Devil's Rejects is pretty good too.

Yesterday I decided to go for a "déjà-vu" with The Others. It's definitely an excellent film that holds pretty well even 12 years later (damn time flies!) I love the pacing, the atmosphere. Tonight I'm gonna grab I Saw The Devil because I'm tired of seeing all the comments in this thread without knowing what this thing is about wink.gif

My oct. 2013 horror list:
1. The Lords Of Salem
2. I Spit On Your Grave (2010)
3. The Others
6. Modus Anomali (Ritual). Treading into Triangle waters with this mind bender. It's a slow burn but worth it, turn out the lights and crank the sound as the environment is half the fun. It's not perfect but still quite good. The format is basically a guy wakes up buried alive with amnesia and finds his wife dead. He then proceeds to find and save his children. What follows is a man vs nature style movie until the breadcrumbs hit. FTV 3 stars

This movie has:

What the farm?
Mindfarm.
What the farm, mindfarm?!
Awesome environmental audio.

Kenobi, your drive-thru prank video was fantastic, loved it!!!biggrin.gif

Hey guys, see what I am up against with my wife. I was describing to her this morning a scene from Dead Snow, and she looked at me and told me I was SO SICK. Then I told her she should watch some mild horror with me and she would get used to them, and she wents nuts, screaming I DONT WANT TO GET USED TO THEM, YOU ARE SICK AND DEPRAVED!!!

Of course, I took the sick and depraved comment as a complement!!!biggrin.gif

Picked that up this week as well and watched it with my daughter... enjoyed it just as much as horror flicks eek.gif What can I say I'm a sucker for classic Disney and my daughter loved it.

I'm probably in the minority here but I did not care for Devil's Rejects.

Noting discussed in any of the 6947 posts in this thread is as sick and depraved as the thought of voters watching Dance Moms or some House Wives show eek.gifwink.gif

It's SLOW but so atmospheric and worth a watch.

House On Haunted Hill 1959
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0051744/?ref_=sr_2

The wife wanted to watch this one last night and it was available on Amazon Prime streaming so we took it in. We had both seen it before but this type of movie is more her style and she loves Vincent Price so I offered this compromise in hopes that she will watch Lords of Salem with me tonight. Anyway, House On Haunted Hill plays out more like a game of Clue or a "who done it" thriller than a horror flick unless you count the skeleton and the floating witch thing. It's good fun I suppose and for the time (1959) I'm sure it was more of a scare. For me, the best thing about this movie is the poster which I think many of us here like. I think I'm good for while with this one and won't be watching it again anytime soon. I give it 3 out of 5 puppeteering skeletons.

Based on my FB feed we've reached Peak Duck Dynasty. Guess that means I need to go as Rowdy Roddy Piper and show them what the hell is up.

yankeeman, at least you tried. Your poor wife! Lol.

I think dropzone has the right idea with going for the classics. I asked my lady to pick one but we've already done Lost Boys, Critters, Silver Bullet, etc countless times. Might have to dig deeper into the vault.

Ha! That sounds like my kids! My son will probably want to 'Oink it' after the previews are over but tonight he is going to have to suffer. My daughter will love this though!

SPECIES is deserves much more credit than it gets. Coincidentally, I did Species 2 last night. I have vague memories of it being a real clinker but last night was the first time I can say I sat down and watched the whole thing. I am sure most people would say it is a POS but I actually enjoye dthe 2nd quite a bit. #3 IS a POS though. I will have full write up later as I am traveling in a bit.

yeah that does work with my better half sometimes, but I cannot complain because we went and saw The Conjuring on our 10th anniversary lol! I think I might do Poltergeist this Halloween since she hasn't seen it in a long time.

We both like The Conjuring and will be watching it again when the Bluray is released in a few weeks.

Agreed sir. The slow-burning House of the Devil is one of my favs. Also plays into why I enjoyed LOS. For the record, although I will watch the occasional one just for the home theater experience, I don't particularly enjoy action movies for the reasons you mentioned.

Yes you do. An experience you won't forget, guaranteed.

BTW, congrats on the ass-kicking your team put on the Braves last night. Whatever happens, one of Atl, LA or Pitt needs to eliminate the Cards.

Ouch. Not completely surprised by the impressions on here so far though. Just like the majority of his movies, there are two completely opposite camps of reviewers.

I liked it, but it was a disappointment because it was marketed as the sequel to HOTC but was almost a completely different film. In a recent interview I saw with RZ, he stated that he is not fond of sequels, so when the studio wanted him to do one for HOTC, he took their money and decided to go in a completely different direction with it.
