Yep, as much as I love Ford my 2007 Tundra has been rock solid.... traffic, long road trips, off roading, snow, just keeps going no matter what you throw at it.

2. Otis (2008)- {4/5} Blu-ray Talk about a fun movie folks! It easily fits in the top tier of the horror/comedy genre along with Shaun of the Dead, Cabin in the Woods, Zombieland, etc. Normally these kinds of movies aren't really my bag (explaining the conservative 4 star rating), but this one is well done on nearly every level. Every character is unique and extremely well done and the story itself is simply awesome. We especially loved Kevin Pollack as the abusive older brother and Jere Burns as the cocky, bumbling FBI agent. This is my second time with this flick and it was even better this time around. For those who haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and add this to your list.

Nice rec. Last night was 11-OTIS -2007 FTV. The first half of this reminded me a lot of The Loved Ones. That’s a good thing. 2nd half, I can’t decide if it made the movie worse or better? LOL. Got a little ridiculous, and no classic payoff, but so many funny lines it was fun and enjoyable to watch – just without the type of payoff/revenge kill that I always like. Still was a very good watch, and would make a great double feature with the loved ones.

Also has one of my favorite lines. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Rectum? Damn near killed him.

I really wanted to support Ford a few years ago for reasons I won't go into here for fear of getting political, so we bought a 2011 Ford Escape. It was my wife's ride and she loved it until about two months ago when she totalled it, or I should say the insurance company totalled it. I have seen and worked on several cars that were hit much harder and not a total loss. It was a frontal side overlap hit which is the most common impact I believe. She pulled out from a dead stand still and collided with a lady in a Camry doing about 40mph. The frame rails on the Escape were bent which is most likely what did it in but I would never have guessed it looking at the damage on scene. I was figuring maybe 3-4k in damage but the initial estimate was 11k! I was dissapointed in how the vehicle held up and we were then under the gun to buy a new car (suck). We went with a new Toyota RAV4 which she had owned one before and liked it. That was a total nightmare that I won't go into but it worked out fine in the end once the Toyota dealer made good on their promise after the sale. She still misses the Ford and she wasn't hurt which is the important part.

They make the cars to break like that and nearly every accident it gets totaled. Sucks for sure. We've had similar incidents.

Ford is on our radar for political reasons and we get a discount through my wife's job for selling steel to them. We just like the 4 Runner body style over the Explorer.

Yep, a little Loved Ones action with some really good humor mixed in. If you recall, there was a great revenge kill....just a little misguided wink.gif I can't remember any of the good lines off the top of my head, but the one you quoted was hilarious.

Well I expect to get something new in the next year or two and right now its a toss up between another Tundra or an F150. I think either is a sound buy but can't comment much on the rest of the line... been a truck guy for too long and the missus is in a new Passat which was the result of me talking her out of a effing moneypit beemer.

The flip side is when they don't total it. In 2005 I was in a hit an run with my 2001 grand cherokee. Guy cut me off, I ran into him and when we pulled of to the side he took off. The cop that responded said, typically, it is drug related or other legal issues, so they run. He said more than half his calls where meth related - back then. Anywho, bent frame and $10k to fix it at one of the biggest auto repair shops in this area. Rig was worth maybe $15k at the time? Insurance did not total it and I am thinking how the HECK am I ever going to be able to sell this down the road? It drove fine though and sold it a few years later on CL for market price. Car fax showed clean...eek.gifredface.gif

Agreed, it was a great, and funny, revenge kill. I wanted the other one to be in his place though. smile.gif

The season 3 premiere episode of "American Horror Story: Coven" was great and better than many of the movies we watch here. I also caught an episode of "Cleaners" on Crackle and they have an ad up for their horror fest starting October 17th.

Cool. I have never seen this show, but have the first disc from season 1 coming next week. Looking forward to checking it out.

Start with Season 2, the first one was not very good IMO.

17. Phantasm 3. Our heroes continue their quest to defeat the Tall Man in the third chapter of this epic horror saga. Fan favorites return and new members join the hunt. If you aren't on board with the series by now this won't get you into it but is still a cool action horror flick. 3 stars.

This movie has:

Zombies in a pink hearse.
Nunchaku.
Plucky kid sidekick.
Quad barreled shotguns.
More brain drilling spheres than you can shake a stick at.
Angus Scrimm killing his screen time.
Decapitation by twist off.

Event Horizon - 4 lacerated space zombies
Repeat viewing but always an enjoyable scifi horror flick. I will say that after seeing some of the scenes that were pulled out this does seem to have a bit less of a hellacious impact had they been left in. I doubt we will ever see the film as intended by the director but hope springs eternal wink.gif 4 lacerated space zombies

One thing I've been told is take pictures the minute you pull over of the damage, and with the rise hit and run, the license plates. Years ago the first accident I was in was a low speed rear ending on a street. I pulled over out of the intersection and the other driver drove off. It wasn't major but it doesn't do much for ones's faith in mankind. You can only hope that The Tall Man will get them when their time comes.

I was going to wait on it but yesterday was craptastic so I needed to watch a good flick to counter balance. As much as I love the gore scenes in that movie I think this might be my favorite... just an amazingly original, claustrophobic, disorienting, and ominous idea. I wish they would have spent a bit more time on it having him get a bit turned around in there, maybe shuffling over entrails while being chased by something dark and undefined. I dono, just a very cool concept and probably could have been celebrated a bit more IMO.

I love all the set pieces in this film including that tunnel and the rest of engineering room. IIRC they only took 6 weeks to shoot the entire film which is pretty quick for a movie with this size of production. I wish Paul Anderson would return to making films like this and make a movie of Dead Space!

Funny you mentioned watching this after a crappy day because the day I saw EH theatrically, I broke up with one of my crazy GF back then. After watching this film I felt much better and moved on with life.

As cool as it was to find out about the extra footage, its kinda sad that it diminishes the released version we all know and love. :-(

As I am skipping over my haunt creation this year I've been giving some serious thought to doing a Event Horizon style haunt next Halloween complete with that tunnel and many of the quick flash and cut scenes. You don't often see scifi themed haunts so it seems like a original thing to do if I can pull it together.

I was ready to quite season 1 but the missus liked it... too much soap opera relationship drama and I'm not a fan of flashbacks. I thought Asylum was perfect.. atmosphere, storyline, characters, everything jest felt like what it should be.

Heym is this your mask listed on the bay?

No you don't see any tie ins with Sci fi and horror blended themes! That would be sweet! I wish I still lived in Sacto so I can check it out!

18. The Woods. Very cool supernatural thriller set in 1965 in a girl school. Strange things are afoot in the place, to say the least. Our heroine, sent here for burning down her house, butts heads with authority and other students in all manner of ways all the while seeing things that are off kilter. It's a slow start but the final sequence is setup perfectly and I think many here will like it. 3.5 stars

This movie has:

Agnes Bruckner.
Bruce Campbell.
Rachel Nichols.
Evil Dead vines.
Girl fights.
Mean old ladies.
Axe kills.
I recall liking Into the Woods. Now that I think about it there are a lot of horror movies at at private schools. Suspiria is probably the best of the subgenre.

Kenobi, if you could somehow pull it off, I'd love to see a sci-fi or Event Horizon themed haunt. The closest I ever came to a sci-fi haunt was an alien medical scene but that was indoors for our Halloween party.
19. Tenebre. An Argento classic with great bursts of violence. Really good crime thriller to boot. Amazing women also. Can't really say much beyond that if you're a fan of his work. Solid movie all around. 3 stars

This movie has:

Goblin.
Doberman Pincher attack.
Beautiful ladies.
Twisty plot.
The template for several other suspense crime movies.
A killer that savors his work.
