I have two bluray players and a TV that already does all that so those features in a gaming console is useless to me aside from allowing my friends to see what I am watching. I may jump on down the road but it's just not all that important to me anymore, I feel like I am getting more out of the time I have watching movies or shows with the missus and am less frustrated doing it.

Tonight I was going to watch Last House on the Left but this talk of The Exorcist III has me changing gears. If I can squeeze in a double maybe I will do that.

I hear you Kenobi, and your tv makes my two panny plasma look like Dinosaurs! I hope the PS4 can last as long as my launch ps3 has.

I think you will like The Exorcist III, what last House are you watching?

Just finished watching REC 2. Not as good as the first film but still decent enough.

I used to be an avid PC gamer until they started getting aggressive with the DRM back around 2007/08. I remember EA in particular at that time saying that you could only re-install a game five times and there was a forced activation scheme. Well, as someone who formats my hard drive on an annual basis to keep things fresh, this wasn't acceptable to me especially since I go out and actually buy the games and support the industry. I still have my gaming PC tower from 2006 and it serves as my "retro box" now but I don't connect it to the Internet anymore. I do still buy the odd game from the Good Old Games website but otherwise I have mostly migrated to the consoles. I have both a PS3 and an Xbox 360 (as well as an original Xbox). I prefer the PS3 for watching movies (and it does support 3D) and prefer the 360 for playing games since the controller is a better fit in my hands.

For plasma TV's, well, I have a Panasonic TH-42PZ77U in my storage closet. It's a good television but prices came down and I upgraded to something bigger a couple of years back. I would hook the Panny back up again but my place is under 500 square feet in size and I really have nowhere that I could put it the way I'm set up in here. But when the day comes that I move to a bigger place, I look forward to putting it back into action. I especially like all of the legacy connections that it has in the back. I do think in general that plasma offers a better picture but the LED is good for games because I have less worry about burn-in.

Now that the Marathon is winding down, I thought it's time to look back on the horror genre thru new eyes:

52. Maniac. Quite an interesting take on the slasher from a very unlikely lead. I typically don't care for Elijah Wood because he can't grow a full beard and it makes him look like a scumbag when tries BUT that is a strength here in this movie. Good effects and soundtrack round out this tale of an embattled soul just out for love. Props to the ladies also. FTV 4.5 stars

This movie has:

A creepier than usual Elijah Wood.
Excellent soundtrack that fits the vibe perfectly.
An awesome shoutout to Buffalo Bill.
The same level of creep we saw Robin Williams do in One Hour Photo.
A high probability of pissing of remake haters that hate remakes but have zero issues with cover songs which I presume is a direct consequence of being on the tit too long.

I still need to see Maniac, Mama and Lords of Salem but probably later this year. I also just looked and Pumkinhead II (first time view) is premiering on one of the Epix channels either tonight or tomorrow, plus there is going to be a horror/makeup/creature documentary on the same channel, featuring KNB effects company. I still cannot believe the month is winding down already, but I will probably have some horror movies spread out (mixed with holiday movies) for the rest of the year.

I'm feeling burned out. Between like 5 trick or treatings, two corn mazes, getting up at 5 to fit in half a movie I need a vacation from media.

Slant Magazine has made some excellent additions to their Top 100 Horror list since I last checked in. A few old and foreign ones I haven't seen yet too.

CHERNOBYL DIARIES - first time watch. Loved this. Takes place (duh) in Chernobyl, and i love anything related to nuclear plants and accidents there and so on. Super creepy buildings, and they really kept the suspense going non-stop once they got there. This was the second dvd i bought at Target with my gift certificate, and they both turned out really good (this one and NO ONE LIVES). I will give this a nice 4 rating, as i continue to get good movies the second half of this month. What a shame i wasnt able to watch more, but as you guys know, this has not been a good time for me and my wife. Gonna have to run to a place later, good thing i watched this really early today.

OCTOBER 2013 MOVIES WATCHED (1-5 Zombie ratings):
01) TORTURE ROOM.....................................2 brainwashed Zombies
02) DEAD SNOW............................................3-1/2 semi-intelligent Nazi Zombies
03) THE DEMENTED......................................1 germ-infected Zombie
04) LIFEFORCE.. ...........................................2-1/2 naked space Zombies
05) ZOMBIE ARMAGEDDON.........................2-3/4 atomic Zombies
06) THE DEAD............................................... 2-3/4 scenic african Zombies
07) HELLBOUND HELLRAISER II .................3 pin-headed Zombies
08) SHARKNADO............................................4 fun campy shark-eaten Zombies
09) STORM WARNING...................................2 suspenseful Zombies
10) THE FRIGHTENERS................................3-1/4 fun Zombies
11) WORLD WAR Z........................................4-1/2 large quantities of Zombies

My Marathon has to be extended, gentlemen.
I have a half dozen titles in my NF queue that haven't made it to me yet.
Plus, I have been behind this last week with relocating to the winter house.
Your indulgence would be appreciated.wink.gif

I had a good time with this movie as well! But anything revolving around Pripyat or Chernobyl usually grabs my attention.

Yeah too busy.

I like that Chernobyl setting too. I can spend hours looking at the old buildings from there. It ties into my love of alternate America with movies like The Purge or They Live.

31. Citadel (FTV)
A widowed father with agoraphobia is haunted by visions of his wife's killers, who may be more than what they seem. Better-than-decent entry to the "hoodie horror" genre, so if you liked "Them/Ils", "Eden Lake", or even "Attack the Block", you'll enjoy this one. This one starts as a seeming examination of fear itself, as we're not sure if the protagonist is imagining his fears or if they really exist--not an original theme, but the main actor's performance sells it quite convincingly. Things pick up speed he teams up with a foul-mouthed priest and a blind boy with special powers. This movie is sort of a combination of "Candyman's" urban blight and "Repulsion's" claustrophobic paranoia and is very effective overall. The main source of menace comes from hooded jawa-like beings reminiscent of "Phantasm", but the bleak settings of the decaying projects contribute most to the depressingly bleak and creepy atmosphere. A nice little find! 4 out of 5 stars.

Just unplug the ethernet connection and put it into your bluray player, should have a Vudu app there. I have cat5 hard wired through the house and a netgear 5 port gigabit switch behind the entertainment stand that feeds cat5 to my TV, bluray, xbox, and squeezebox. I never use my xbox for anything but gaming mostly because I prefer the remote on my Panny.

Last nights Halloween treat was "Night of the Living Dead: Re-Animation" which as a Re-Animator sequel (indeed with Jeffery Combs) is a horror comedy film with some good political satire ("Sister Sarah"). It's been on Netflix WI for a while but just got to it.

Looking at the lists it seems you many of you are playing "catch-up" with me and the other sick souls who have a penchant for watching horror films all year long. biggrin.gif

You don't haul your big a$$ tv around do you?

Tactical error and I thought I ordered the 2009 last House on the Left and apparently it was the 1972 version, so...

36- The Last House on the Left – 1972 FTV. Gritty, bleak, funny…1972 and this was new stuff back then. Wes Cravens first movie and a lot of powerful scenes - and some misses too. smile.gif Today it is a typical abduction/torture/rape/agony flic, and I am sure it was more powerful back in the day. These kinds of movies have to walk a line for me as I am more into the revenge kill angle and the torture/rape/agony gets old – unless it is well done. biggrin.gif
Some great performances here, and some not. The parents and cops were horrible, so kind of blew my revenge fun.
This movie has –
Powerful message for teenage girls to stay away from pot and concerts
Mom that seems a little too eager to go down for revenge
Piss scene
3 original 70’s Zombies

37- Hellsing, ultimate 1-4 2006 – FTV. Animated, from Japan. Pretty nice animation with a lot of action and blood (CGI - LOL). Different twist on the Van Helsing mythology, and basically, modern day Van Helsing has “tamed” the original Count Dracula and uses him to fight current supernatural monsters etc. Good idea, but a little to much form over function to be fully satisfying. Some good moments if you are into anime.
3 CGI bloodied Zombies

My October 2013 list
1- No One Lives -2012 FTV. 3 Psycho Zombies
2- Cockneys Vs Zombies – 2012 FTV 3.5 Cockney Zombies
3- Juan of the Dead – 2011 FTV. 3 dissident Zombies
4- Shaun of the Dead – 2004. 4 British Zombies
5- SPECIES II – 1998. 3.5 procreating Zombies
6- HALLOWEEN Rob Zombie style – 2007 FTV. 3 knife wielding Zombies
7- American Mary – 2013 FTV. 3 Modified Zombies
8- The Demented - 2012 FTV. -3.5 STINKER OF THE YEAR Zombies
9- Cemetery Man - 1994 FTV. 3 dinner plate Zombies
10- Trick r Treat – 2007. 4.5 old fashioned Zombies
11- OTIS – 2007 FTV. 4 no date to the prom Zombies
12- MANBORG – 2011 FTV. 5 ridiculously awesome Zombies

17- Evil Dead – 2013 FTV. 4 self amputee Zombies
18- The amazing adventures of the living corpse – 2013 FTV. 2 not amazing Zombies
