Agreed Kurt Russell was awesome in that movie! Quentin could do both and I hope he does one day!

Agreed.

FWIW, tonite I watched....
Maniac (2012) with Elijah Wood in the starring role.

This is some nasty sh!t right here.
Essentially, it is a recruiting video for all the sick, sick MFers who dream of becoming sexual Serial Killers.

You have been warned.

I like em both just got a blu ray of Grindhouse. There is only one Rodriguez and one Tarantino. I can see Tarantino doing a horror flick.

Don't get me wrong. I've already watched World War Z twice and plan on watching it again tonight. For me, it played more of a detective/suspense movie. The zombies were just a bonus. If you read the book, you may have caught a brief scene or two that tried to encapsulate a whole chapter. This is, for me, going to be one of those guilty pleasure movies that I'll pull out on occassion when I can't think of anything else to watch.

Yeah, good point. I suppose many of the better Z entries do the same thing. Is more about the human failures than what the zombies bring to the table as antagonist.
The book did a great job of illustrating the horror of the zombies, and the failure of man, without having to make them super zombies.

But, still better than nothing or another lame, teeny bopper, slasher flic. smile.gif

I can't decide if this was better than I hoped for - or worse? tongue.gif

Really took me a while to get behind lil Elijah as such a messed up dude. The killer point of view for the camera, his little grunts and noises - not to mention his dwarf hands. Kind of icky, and hard to accept from his Frodo appeal.
I did like the ending though and not sure if I would prefer an actor without the LOTR baggage, or if it makes it more creepy with EW??

It's not anymore a recruiting video for killers than The Avengers is for heroes but it is way creepy for the reasons you point out.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
I couldn't help but think that Frodo should have been getting his ass kicked by some of those girls. My dog poops bigger than him.

That, good Darth, is ironic because my almost 11-year old daughter and I were just discussing the very thing yesterday. She wanted to know why people like to destroy beautiful things, i.e. defacing works of art or blowing up buildings. I told her the destructive mind acts on negative emotion instead of using the soul. The soul imagines, plans, and creates whereas the person who lives in a dark place just lashes out. It why she could build a eautiful castle made of Legos, only to have a mean, little boy come along and kick it. The bottom line was that it was easier to destroy than to build up. On the other hand, she learned that a simple helpful gesture will leave a lifetime impression on someone. The problem with that is that too many people are wrapped up in their own lifes to really share (or care.)

IIRC, EW was very "creepy" in Sin City too.wink.gif

That's beautiful, man. Your daughter is in good hands and it gives me hope for the future.

*hee hee* I'm still a work in progress, as are we all. The trick is consistancy. I think too many times, we come home to relax after a hard day instead of realizing our second job begins as "man of the house." If you're not going to bed exhausted, you're doing it wrong. wink.gif

Death proof on IFC tonight! I think I might watch this instead of the Walking Dead.

If you want a quick zombie fix, find out what Overly Sensitive Zombie Girl thinks of The Walking Dead in my daughter Jillian's newest episode...

Not a bad idea actually. I think I'll do the double feature.

Strictly for movies or music too? What will you be running them off? I'm a long time member on headfi and have been through countless headphones, amps, dacs, etc. If you give me some more info I'll hook you up with some solid recommendations.

Nothing crazy. We were just running the camera in our building. If we were to go out in the field they would expect us to continue doing it and that ain't happening. smile.gif

Wouldn't headphones for movies also be good for music? There are some movies out there with great soundtracks.

I love Emiliana Torrini's White Rabbit in Sucker Punch.

.
Music is one of the reasons I love Tarantino films. He always seems to pick the perfect song for the moment.
I watched Death Proof last night and still have "Down in Mexico" stuck in my head. Maybe it's because I've been to Mexicali several times in my youth. Although I wouldn't call any of the live entertainment establishments I visited a "honky tonk", I may have met that cat named Joe.

Family night at the house last night. It was "My Girl" and "Beauty and the Best - The Enchanted Christmas." I tried to watch"Event Horizon" after everyone went home and the daughter was in bed but I couldn't stop my hand from reaching for "World War Z" again. Strange how I've picked up on all the mistakes and non-sensical scenes but still like watching it. It's funny whereas there are MANY movies where I wouldn't put up with that many flubs and still continue viewing. I'm sure we all have a horror movie like that.

For wireless solution I'd recommend the Sennheiser RS170 which can be found for $200 with some searching. For wired I'd recommend the Beyerdynamic DT770, Sennheiser HD598, or if by chance you can find a used Denon DT2000 in your price range that would be my 1st pick.

Not necessarily, most headphones I'd recommend for movies are going to be imbalanced on the low end to mimic HT like subwoofer response and also be a bit skewed in the mids to enhance dialogue. Headphones that I would recommend for music would be closer to flat across the frequency spectrum, doing best not to exaggerate any portion of the spectrum.

That makes sense. Thanks.
There seems to be a new feature to the AVS subscription notifications. They sent me an e-mail notification saying that I was quoted by you.

It can be turned off in your Profile section.

I watched "The Purge" last night. It sorta reminded me of the 1970s "Stepford Wives" or an alternate universe because by logical progression I don't see society going that way. However reading comments on some news boards about obesity it's those who are overweight that have something to worry about because the skinny minnies seem to be really viscous about that.
