If I lived by that rule I'd almost never see a movie

I liked The Conjuring, but I do recall telling my wife after watching it, "it would have been even better if it wasn't supposedly based on a true story." For a skeptic like me, that takes away from it, and constantly during the movie I found myself thinking "Yeah, but did it REALLY happen that way?" Still, I did like The Conjuring and will likely buy the BD at some point.

By the way, I just picked up a BD of "Event Horizon" at Best Buy for a mere $5!

It doesn't bother me. Zero Dark Thirty, Band of Brothers, are based on a true story too. I didn't witness any of those events and all my knowledge of them is second and third hand at best. Hell in about five years you'll be able to put "Based on true events" in front of Robocop.

???

I thought Robocop WAS a true story!?! confused.gif Next you are going to tell me Superman is not real........he is real, right?

biggrin.gif

Sorry you did not like Conjuring Oink. I really enjoyed it, but I can see your point.

Anyone else seen Frankensteins Army? This movie is WAY out there, but I loved it. If Frank Zappa, Alice Cooper and Quentin Tarantino got together and made a film, this could be it. It's a total bass fest as well for those who love the low end. FA has earned a spot in my annual Halloween rotation. cool.gif I can see people loving or hating this one, but give it a shot when you are up for some bizarre and gory movie fun. Maybe this was already mentioned here, but I have not seen much about this one so I thought I would give a heads up for anyone who missed it.

Score!

Oink no like The Conjuring?

I should pick up Frankensteins Army because I believe it is only $11.00, oh and I heard there is some decent bass in that movie.

FA was pretty well received here. It's no Manborg but it is ok.

Sounds like I should check out Manborg?

Sorry, but I wasn't impressed.

Another of those "based on true events" that are predicated on the words of people looking to make $$$.

What we have is Amityville Redux.
Oh wait, some of the same people surround both of these "true events."rolleyes.gif
From Wikipedia:
The Conjuring is a 2013 American supernatural horror film directed by James Wan. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson star as Ed and Lorraine Warren who were American paranormal investigators and authors associated with prominent cases of haunting. Their reports inspired the Amityville Horror.

Hmm, I have Conjuring and Grabbers in pretty red envelopes waiting to be viewed...

I figured you would like this. I think most here saw FA for October. The bass was over the top and really added to the enjoyment IMO. Blind buy and I look forward to blasting this down the road. As Apollo said the creations are really cool. Don't really do much damage biggrin.gif but still really cool, and they way they keep coming from different angles lends a surreal tone to the last third of the movie - imo. Fun flic. smile.gif

MANBORG is a different beast and will challenge you spiritually. cool.gif

Thanks guys for the Manborg rec and I will track it down somewhere, or maybe just blind buy the dvd since Netflix does not seem to carry it unfortunately.

Since we're talking snow, let's not forget "horror" Christmas songs. Like "Deck the Halls With Parts Of Charlie." tongue.gif

Thank you for explaining it better than I.

I have said it before, if I may digress.....
There REALLY are people who want to believe what they see on a screen is true (NO, I'm not talking about believing in Batman rolleyes.gif ).
When a movie starts with "based on TRUE events" (or similar) there is a part of an audience who will swallow such a claim hook, line, and sinker.
I wish it wasn't true, but it is.
We have talked about this in the past and I don't want to retread.

If anyone wants to discuss this further, I suggest we go to PMs.
It's not worth having Larry bring the hammer down...again.wink.gif

There is a BIG difference between the movies you mentioned and this other stuff.
Again, I have talked about this in the past and don't want to bore everyone here once again with my POV.

As a matter of fact, we have talked about this one.
The last third of the movie, in particular, rocked.smile.gif

Go with the Conjuring, turn out the lights and turn the sound up or use headphones depending on the on the hour. It isn't a documentary, it is unsettling. Enjoy. smile.gifeek.gifbiggrin.gif

Two examples of mis-marketing. If Star Wars came out in 2013 it could have very well been mis-marketed and suffered a similar fate, think about it.

Speaking of spitting on graves. I caught part two of the new version. While disturbing it wasn't all that.
