New house with multiroom speakers

Hello,

Noob here, my parents just bought a new house that came pre-wired with two in ceiling speakers around the living room, dining room and master bed room. All the wires come out from a single location. I have a pioneer 1018 reciever and want to know if its possible to connect them using this reciever? The house came with no instructions on how to get these speakers connected to a reciever. Also, each room has its own volume control knob on the wall.

Any helpful advice or pointing me to the right direction is appreciated. Thanks.

Depends somewhat on how you will be using the receiver otherwise. That receiver does have the option of using the rear channel amps for zone 2 speakers so, if you don't have a rear channel setup, you could do that.

The other thing is to determine if the speaker volume controls are impedance matching types. If so you can connect all the speakers in parallel to the amp.

Take a look at the controls to determine the type and, if they are impedance matching, make sure they are set to the proper impedance. For three sets of speaker, each should probably be set to 32 ohms (4X assuming 8 ohm speakers). This will give a parallel impedance to the amp of 10.7 ohms which the amp will readily drive. Setting the impedance to 16 ohms would give more volume but the impedance to the amp would be 5.3 ohms, which the amp may have difficulty driving (possible instability or overheating problems).
