The unforseen things that can occur, maybe fido gets frisky one day and bites through a speaker cable, maybe something happens and you end up moving and have to make some new cables etc etc. Sure you can buy more nothing wrong with that, but the OP seemed focused on saving money, and never having to buy them again I feel in the long run is a better option on the wallet.
My cables are in the wall, where they should be, so no worries about Fido. And if I move, I would leave all the wires there, not worth my time to be pulling them all, patching drywall and painting. I'll just buy new cables.
But I do see your point, some might find it worth the trouble.
