Not really since they would have to pay patent royalties on the now defunct format unless there was some sort of bundling of IP, which I doubt cross formats. Thats pure profit out of their pocket by including a format many will never use. (I wish they did still include HD-DVD myself in their BD players)
And if you look at how much trouble Samsung and LG have had with firmware in their combo players, it is probably far more trouble than it is worth.
However, Toshiba has done a great job on their 4.0 firmware, and if they ever offered a combo Blu-ray/HD-DVD player at a reasonable price . . . I'm in!!
Until then - I will stick with my Sony blu-ray players and Tosh HD-A35.
