$75 NIB? The question is, is it worth it to YOU? The movies, while still available are dwindling fast. Good prices though. Alot cheaper than the blu-ray alternative. To me, that is a great deal and I would buy IF I was in the market for another player or even my first.

Splicer...just wondering if this will stand the test of time as a stand alone SD DVD player. I have scoured the market for titles and realize that pickins are getting slim. Can you suggest and sites to check out for HD DVD's?

I got mine for $10. at Goodwill and downloaded firmware for free. It upgrades my DVD's great and is probably the best buy (no pun intended) that I have made in the last year. When I buy a BR it will be for streaming. I still need to find some HD titles and will look on EBAY

there are still plenty of HD-DVD titles that haven't made it to BD yet. go for it! i still lve firing up my XA2 every now and then.

the winter of 2006 seems like an eternity ago doesn't it

Yeah, Cream Live at Royal Albert Hall isn't on BD yet and some of the Eagles live stuff as well.

The Eagles "Farewell Tour I - Live in Melbourne" is a superb HD-DVD title.
Excellent video, DTS HD Master audio, and not available on blu-ray.

Not really since they would have to pay patent royalties on the now defunct format unless there was some sort of bundling of IP, which I doubt cross formats. And if you look at how much trouble Samsung and LG have had with firmware in their combo players, it is probably far more trouble than it is worth.
However, Toshiba has done a great job on their 4.0 firmware, and if they ever offered a combo Blu-ray/HD-DVD player at a reasonable price . . . I'm in!!

Until then - I will stick with my Sony blu-ray players and Tosh HD-A35.

My A20 with the 4.0 update now has an additional resolution setting -- 1080p/24Hz. Will using that instead of 1080p make any difference on my Samsung DLP HLT6187S?

Unless your DLP can handle 1080p/24hz, no it will not help anything.
I have a Sammy 56" DLP from 2004 that will not handle the 1080p/24hz.

That update was only for those displays that will do the 1080p/24hz processing.

Not only that, but my Samsung DLP from 2008 will accept 1080p/24hz but converts it to 60hz, unlike my Sony Bravia which will do a 5:5 pulldown to keep the source at a multiple of 24 frames. So even if a TV can accept a 24hz source it still might not matter.

I have looked and all the links in this thread don't work anymore and Toshiba is not posting that far back. I tried that too.
I tried googling for it and all the links don't work either.
The only way to find it is if someone kept the initial file and then they can post it, email it to you or do a file transfer as it isn't that big.

I too have a A35 and have no luck in locating the latest firmware update. I still use my player and would like to get the most out of it if anyone can be kind enough to help....?

Dug one of my XA2s out of the closet and it has 1.0 firmware on it. LMAO. Took like a minute to boot up.

Now it's at 4.0. Phew.

Nope that is it. (4.0)
They all boot pretty slow. But it is picture quality that makes them good. Just go and turn it on while you are finding the HD movie to play.
it will be ready for you when you come back. :-)
