I would ALMOST believe this if you had my address. And if you had my address then my question would be.....Wheres my door? Man we need updates here. Whats the latest project etc?

On a side note I have a question about ordering a door, How do I determine the size I need? Sound silly well do I measure the opening or do I measure the opening plus an inch etc? Is it all based on hinges I suppose? Well I am thinking of just doing some basic hinge but I am soo confused on this door issue

Yes they were on sale from $7.99 to $5.99, they have pine and oak verisions, mine were the oak ones. Even at the $7.99 I thought they were a good deal but at $5.99 I just couldn't pass it up.

No updates really, I have a few things I need to pick up and get going on. I did add a handle on the cabinet door that I am keeping but that's about it.

First you would measure your opening and then you would add what over lay you want. So if you add 1 inch. to your opening measurements you will have a 1/2" overlay all the way around the opening. You were talking that you wanted at least 1 inch all the way around so you would add 2 inches to your opening measurments for both width & height giving you a inch all the way around. Then you need to get a hinge that will allow whatever overlay you end up getting, in this case a 1 inch overlay hinge. I believe the largest overlay hinge is 1 1/4".

Ok lets go with the 1" overlay hinge, and you say I need to measure and add 2" on all sides to the "inside" measurement of the opening? So if the opening is say 24" I would order a door that is 28" wide? The other thing is there a particular advantage of a hinge that mounts to the face of the trim or to the inside of it?

Not sure if you had a typo or not but your above number is wrong,
Lets say your opening is 24" width x 24 Height and you want the 1" overlay on each side. You would add 2" to each Width & Height so you would order a 26" X 26" door. the 24" would cover the opening and an inch on each side the same goes for the height 2" would give you 24" to cover your opening and the extra 2" total give you an inch on each side overlay or overlap.

There is no real difference on the hinge except that the ones that mount to the inside of the cabinet are for faceless cabinets (another word trim less) cabinet openings. I personally would get the trim or face hinges but that is what I am familar with becasue I always add a trim facing. If you do get the faceless hinges I would assume you would have to add a nailer to the inside of cabinet in order to mount your hinge to clear your trim... unless the trim is flush with the inside cabinet wall. I couldn't tell from your pictures I have.

I think I will go with a simple hinge that lays on the face of the trim and screws in to it and then into the door as well. Yea that was a typo I meant 26"...lol. Anyway as soon as I can find a place to order a door I will consider it but most of the places I have found have a 5 peice minimum. But then again my search for places has not returned much results. Any help or suggestions on places to order a custom sized door besides..... "Dennis' workshop" lol

LSWHO,

Until 2 years ago; I worked in Rosemont for over 20 years, I'm familiar with two McD's; one on Manheim and Higgins Rds, and another on River Rd. - those both have to be primo locations for fast food!!

I live about 18 miles NW of there in the Palatine area

Okay familar with Palatine. He owns the one on river rd / higgins under the Rosemont "rose painted" water tower. I lived there for a few years myself (many moons ago) in franklin park & then in barrington/deer park. Very cool, small world.
Your HT is coming along nicely, following your progress and can't wait to see the finished product. The LED light your using, was that from the big box stores? Does it mount flush to the bottom or mount to the cabinet.

Many many moons ago i lived in an apartment that was almost in the shadow of that goofy water tower. Currently; my post office zip is actually Barrington, and I'm about 10 minutes from Deer park (that area has exploded).

As for the LED lights, they are from HD, and are "pucks". If I saved the package I'll share a photo. They mount to the bottom of the cabinet, but are only 3/4" deep and they disappear behind the reveal of the cabinet face.

Yeah that area is booming, That's the area my Dad still lives (north of Rand Rd & Lake Cook area).

Thanks for the LED info. I need some for the cabinet I am building for my full size football helmets and think they will work. I'll go check out HD. Thanks again.

Mike, I went to 2 different HD's and they did not have enough of the supply that I wanted. I was not sure if I could get away with getting two or three different production runs without an issue. I know they are all uneven and what not but I was trying to find enough with the same production run. There is another 2 HD's I want to go to before I decide to mix & match.

This is amazing; I really like the bar top. In my current project I plan to panel the sides in copper, and I'm wondering what gauge sheet metal you used? I found some on ebay for what looks like a good price for 10 mil/30gauge... I'm just not sure whether it might be too thin for the application...

Thanks for your insight~ - Dan

Yes it is a brushed copper but I purchased the copper in a 12" x 10' sheet and used a drill with a steel wire brush to give it that brushed look. It was cheaper to do it myself and I wasn't sure about using copper but knew I wanted something different.

Thanks for the compliments Dan.
I used the .10 thick from a online supplier named storm copper. You could go a little thicker if your doing insert panels for the sides. .10 thick could be cut with house scissors but would dent easily or shows any flaws on the wood that it was mounted to. In my opinion If you are using for only the sides I would goes with a thicker gauge. If I was to redo my top I would also goes with a thicker gauge now.

It's been awhile since any updates but i've started back on the theater and trying to finish the rope lighting in there. I did order some more copper sheets to do the top of the kegerator so I plan on doing that in the next couple of weeks. I need to get the basement pole stained and clear coated all of which will be done shortly. Updated photos to follow.
