BH200 2.0 BD live update, need people to contact LG - Page 2

I just got this from LG:

Firmware update 2.0 BDFriday, October 3, 2008 2:29 PM
From: "Esther Park"

I just found out that we are not currently looking at upgrading to BD 2.0. The BD300 came out yesterday and it has 2.0 in it.
LG stated the BH200 would have this capability in the original press release... I copied the following text out of their own press release:

"With full networked interactivity available from selected HD DVDs, and the capability to handle networked “BD-Live” interactivity in forthcoming Blu-ray discs, it is the latest available technology that plays both disc formats."

The press release can be found here: http://us.lge.com/aboutus/pressdetai...ideo_337.jhtml

It would be disappointing to see LG go back on their original statement and leave us early adopters behind...

A lot has happened technologically and financially speaking since that press release.

A lot has happened on the HD DVD side but nothing has changed with regards to br where it relates to the BH200. The BH200 is a full fledged br player so really should be treated as such by LG. Obviously the death of HD DVD will probably be used as an excuse not to update the BH200 but this player is less than a year old and does have the hardware necessary to be updated AND as gtb75 stated was touted as being capable of being upgraded to full br specs.

There is nothing to say LG HAS to provide an update but for a player that is less than a year old and so well specified compared to many others on the market today it would be unfortunate if they decided not to do so. At least for those who want to use the functionality.

I won't be buying a BH300. I have three of the BH200 strictly because it plays both formats. I would love for them to add profile 2.0 functionality, but there is no way I plan to by a BH300 player from them.
I'll sticj to my Pansonic players.

This statement seems pretty cut-and-dried to me. Right now, the player does NOT have the capability "to handle networked 'BD-Live' interactivity." A firmware update is mandatory if they have any intent to honor their advertising pledge. It's as simple as that.

I wonder if we'd get the answer we want to hear if we emailed a different CSR? I think I'll give it a shot...
When we purchased this unit, part of the sales specs said it would support BD 2.0 so I think they should 100% have to provide us the update. It's not our fault the format war ended, we still paid for the product and should get the support and functionality promised. Toshiba is doing so, and LG should too.

Is there a BH300 coming out? I thought they were done making combo players.

Well, I gave it a try:

I purchased a BH200 SuperBlu Dual-Format DVD player due to its fine specifications and based on product information from LG's press release for the product.
Currently, this product does not have support for any BluRay Profile 2.0 functions, specifically BD_Live.

I am requesting LG to support this excellent product with the full feature/functionality they have claimed it will provide to its users.

Also, there are multiple known problems with this player that require firmware repair such as 4:3 aspect formatting and Dolby Digital Plus support.

LG has put together a fine product and has a loyal base of avid users. It would be very poor customer relations to not provide on-going support and to not implement functions specifically claimed by LG in its corporate marketing material. It would be a shame to ruin LG's image as a customer-oriented company and side-track its growth in the consumer electronics arena.

I appreciate your support and attention to this request.

Best regards,

I keep seeing this link posted, but when I go to the page, there is nothing there that is obvious in terms of where to send a specific request regarding the BH 200. I tried the link that said "software/hardware updates", but it was an inactive link. Exactly what part of this page must be clicked on to send requests for the BH 200? Thanks...

You have to select a country first, then select "contact us".

He's mistaken, it's the BD300 that's coming (with Netflix capability).

Well, I just sent my message to LG. Even if they decline to upgrade it to 2.0, there is a side benefit that they'll be aware that us BH200 users do still exist.

I'm thinking of selling all my HDDVDs as well as the player, as I've been eyeing the new Blu-ray player that OPPO is going to be releasing in the next few months. Hopefully LG gets it together and takes care of not just BD-Live, but the other issues that the player still has. I certainly enjoy the unit, but it can be frustrating when the sound stops working, just because I fast-forwarded my HDDVD at the highest setting, or when I have to deal with the 4:3 issue.

It may all be moot for me anyway, as I find that I'm not even buying Blu-ray movies over the last few months. Owning doesn't seem to be as big a deal as it used to for me.

Yeah, I'm with you. I bought a lot more during the format war. That's why I have about 60 reds and only 9 blues. Now if I don't really like the movie, I'm like 'eh, I'll just rent it if I want to see it'.

I make an exception for TV shows, since those are alot easier to own.

Here is my message to LG:

Hello LG Customer Services

I'd like to request some firmware upgrade features, in order of importance for me:

1. The ability to display the remaining and total time on a title. The BH200 only shows the time played so far. It would be very useful to know how long a film/extra is and how long it has left to go. I imagine this would be very simple to add.
2. Blu-ray Profile 2.0 support.
3. On-board decoding of DTS-HD MA and DTS-HD HR
4. SACD and DVD-Audio support.
5. The Redbook Audio CD Layer on Hybrid SACDs aren't compatible with the LG BH200. On all other Players the Audio CD layer is detected and the SACD is treated as a regular Audio CD but on the LG BH200 it's detected as a Data Disc and thus cannot be played.

I am currently running the 0702 Driver and June (BH02080620A) firmware installed on my LH BH200 Super Blu Player.

Well, I just emailed LG again informing them that if they don't release a profile 2.0 firmware update for the BH200, then I won't be buying any more of their products.

I emailed LG about a month ago, inquiring about profile 2.0 for the BH200, and I was told that it was in the works.

So, if what people are hearing now is true, that means they've changed their minds, and are abandoning their users.

This just reinforces the stereotype that big companies don't give a crap. I'm sure they probably don't care if they lose me as a customer, but I have to do my little bit to stand up to them.

Sigh.

Here's the reply I got from LG. Somehow I don't think they understand.

"Thank you for inquiring of LG Electronics. Your e-mail has been received. Please call customer service to make these arrangements for the correct firmware to be issued. The telephone number is 1-800-243-0000 and the hours of operation are 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please have your model number, serial number, and date of purchase available for the agent when you call. Please feel free to contact us if you have any additional questions or concerns. Virginia Q. E-mail Administrator"

...unless they're waiting for my call to give them the go ahead! I'll call them tomorrow!
I got that same response a few times from the SAME "email administrator". lol
post #48 of 454
Yea...I don't have LGs response cuz I'm @work.....but same kind of response......"please submit a trouble ticket"....or something to that effect.
Try the live chat feature on the LG site. I am making a daily pilgrimage there to "speak" with a live person and share my displeasure.
I contacted them as well:

"Also at this time we don't have information if the BD life 2.0 will be available in this unit."

BD Life..HA HA

Hope you folks don't mind but I borrowed a few lines from everyones:

I purchased a BH200 SuperBlu Dual-Format Hi Def player at the height of the Format war due to its fine specifications and based on product information from LG's press release ("With full networked interactivity available from selected HD DVDs, and the capability to handle networked “BD-Live” interactivity in forthcoming Blu-ray discs, it is the latest available technology that plays both disc formats.")for the product.
Currently, this product does not have support for any BluRay Profile 2.0 functions, specifically BD_Live. I spend top dollar on this product to be future proof and now it sounds like LG will not honor their commitment to their loyal customers. I submitted a inquiry two months ago and was informed that it was in the works and would be released shortly but now there are wisperings on the net that this will not be true.

Hopefully you're response will come from some one other than Virginia Q, E-mail administrator because she doesn't seem to know jack chit.
I've just emailed them myself (the UK side of things).

I suspect the previous claims they made about profile 2.0 support might be the best angle of attack.

We'll see.

Thanks for this one & all the advice on this great player.
Good plan. Let's busy them out to the point that it'd be less work for them to just actually implement it.

I've emailed them twice, and I'm doing a Live Chat with them right now.

Just sent this e-mail to the contacts shown on the press release:

Mr. Taylor and Ms Chang,

I purchased the LG BH200 Super Blu Blu-Ray HD-DVD Player late in 2007 (Purchase Price $900) based on information I received from the press release you issued on September 7, 2007 (link attached)(http://us.lge.com/aboutus/pressdetai...eo_337_2.jhtml)

After my purchase I have endured many problems with the BH200 and have had numerous contacts with LG customer service. Finally, I was informed late last week via e-mail from LG (a copy of the e-mail can be found at the end of this e-mail) that the BH200 would not be updated to the include the functionality promised in your press release.

I am truly frustrated with the support and the level of commitment LG has made with this player and the way the company has turned its back on its customers. I have purchased numerous items from LG in the past including a washing machine, dryer, several televisions and other items and had never had any problems. But apparently LG has had a change in its corporate mentality and has chosen to push away its loyal customers.

I am deeply disappointed in your company and wanted to inform you of the misinformation contained in your press release and the failure of your company to follow through on promises made with regards to your products.

Sincerely,

(name and address removed)

Woah...it does mention BD-Live! Now they better give us that feature.

My response is laughable.

I e-mailed LG USA as LG UK and LG Belgium (where I bought my BH200) are a waste of space as far as the BH200 is concerned. LG USA are the only customer services team who will hopefully take note. It's not as if any of the European LG Service Teams are going to pay any attention, the BH200 was pretty much a flop in Europe. E-Mailing LG USA at least means it will get attention, hopefully!

They've chosen to completely ignore my questions. Where I've bought it from is irrelevant, a BH200 is a BH200. I hate it when we know more than they do. I didn't mention anywhere in my e-mail where I bought it, all I can presume is they've based this e-mail solely on my e-mail address (that ends .co.uk). Muppets:

It does and it doesnt appear to say its an upcoming feature, rather it implies the capability is present already in the BH200.

I have absolutely no faith that LG will release a BD live update (my player is currently boxed up and I have returned to my XA2) but I will definitely back any users who want this feature. To whit, I sent my email to LG as requested.
