Mythos Gem vs. ProCinema 800

Just got a great deal on 2 pair of mythos gem as well as a mythos 3 center channel. Was all ready to buy a ProCinema 800 system, but when I was able to get the gems for a lower price, I jumped on that deal.

Looking for some feedback on whether or not this is a good tradeoff. 90% home theatre use. Will mount the gems on stands for the front and on the ceiling for the surrounds in a 5.1 setup.

Should I have gone with the Mythos 7 for the center - given that it has 4.5 drivers vs. the 3.5 drivers of the gems?

I complete newbie - so any help appreciated

I think the mythos3 sounds better then the 7, I would stick with it.

nice choice but i think you should have gotten the ProMonitor 1000s instead with a ProCenter 2000, sounds incredible..

If you call Definitive Technology and speak to either Adam or Chet, they will tell you that the ProMonitor actually sounds either equall or a lilttle better than the Mythos six with the Mythos Three as the center.

But whatever.. where did you get it from and for how much?

I got the silver gems on this weekend's deal on Amazon. All said and done, it will end up costing me almost exactly the same as the procinema combination, and thus my dilemma.

Sent an email to Chet today, but haven't gotten a response yet.

Wait for his response, i spoke to him today on the phone like i said to ask him that exact same question, i also spoke to adam from definitive technology and he told me that there would be not much difference at all, he actually said that the Mythos are built just like a conventional speaker is built, however the promonitors are using their new speaker technology thus theres a tradeoff either way..

I dont know about u but i couldnt stand the silver speakers near my 52 Black Sammy A650 LCD but thats me, i could have gotten the Mythos six + Mythos 3 for center and the Gems for the surrounds, would cost me like $300 or so more but everyone i asked said its not worth it, i even spoke to the guys at abt.com and they said that its not worth the upgrade too and that i have one heck of a system(true that btw.. sounds amazing )

anyway u better of call chet, hes a great person, i spoke to him a few times, oh and btw, i had a hard time deciding between the def techs or a klipsch system , until i actually heared the klipsch system and boy thx god i heared it, they were good but compared to the def techs they are BRIGHT. like tooooo bright. love the def techs, i could return them 30 days if i dont like them but i love them..

I have 2 Extra ProMonitor 800s coming to my door tommorow and ill make this system a 7.1 setup

I also added another pair of for that price. I knew I should have ordered two sets as it is double now from same link I had followed. I was already covered for my setups so I think I'll have to use for a 7.1 zone in the Kamode when they get here Friday.

I have 4 Gems in the bedroom matched to a Solo LCR up front with the 3 1/2" Drivers and SuperCube III. The room is not very big 12' X 15' so I initially wanted to go with a Seven and Sixes up front, but my equipment is housed in curios on either side of my LCD meaning the sixes would have had to sit on top of 6' curios with the seven below the LCD. With the Solo everything is at ear level from the bed which worked out much better for me.

I have both a 7.1 and dedicated two channel setup in the living room which are all Def Tech. I have One's for stereo and 7.1 consists of a Three, Two's, 4 Gem XL's and a SuperCube II.

I don't know what your AVR setup is but I would look into adding a set of Two's upfront when feasible and put the other set of Gems in rear and you would have a Killer 7.1 setup. Maybe down the road replace the Gems with the XL's to match the front drivers. Anyways your off to a great start though!
