LCD for less than $1200. Recommendations?

Thread Starter
I am in the market for a 1080p LCD for $1200 or less. I'd like to have as big of one as possible, and in that price range, it looks like 47" is about as much as I can hope for.

If lucky, I may find a closeout or two on a Sharp or JVC model, but those are few and far between. The brands in my price range then fall to Insignia (Best Buy brand), Westinghouse, etc. Any opinions on these lesser brands? I am reading better than average customer reviews on the Insignias.

I figure if I would get one of these brands, I would opt for a 2-4 year extended warranty for peace of mind.

Thoughts and/or suggestions? Thanks!

Any brand new LCD at Costco would give you a 3 year extended warranty if you buy on your AMEX, or 2 years if you pay otherwise. It will also come with a 90 day no questions asked return policy where you can return and/or exchange sets if needed. I strongly suggest you pay Costco a visit and see all their models since their customer service and warranty periods are unmatched anywhere.

In terms of price at Costco, you can get a 42" top of the line Vizio with 1080p and 120Hz for $1,100. Or you can get a 47" Vizio 1080p for $1,200 but that model doesn't come with 120Hz.

They also have a 40" Toshiba with 1080p and 120Hz for $1,100 you might like as well, but that's only 40" but still within your price range.

Overall a Vizio at Costco is your best bet to maximize in terms of size, specs, and warranty all within your stated price range, good luck.

Go for quality over size. I'd stay away from most of the off brands, and buy from a reputable vendor as well. Vizio tends to be one of the better off brands, but if you're going to pay that much, you might as well pay a little bit more and get the better picture to go along with it. I'm partial to the A550's from Samsung for the money, but the Sony V Series, or new Toshiba Regza lineup is nice also. In know the 46" A550 can be had for about $1350 pretty regularly. That's $150 more than what you're looking to spend, but it would be money well spent.
