Projector/screen combo for 200+" (4hrs daily use)

Thread Starter
I have the potential to add a 200+" screen in a 33' x 33' sq room. i wil need a wide viewing angle from a fixed mount screen. the room does have moderate residual light from windows to the rest of a building. most of the light from the actual room will be dimmed to a moderate level.

My problem is that i will be using this setup on an average of 4 hours daily.

desired specs
wide viewing angle screen
200" projector size.
1080i or p
fairly high lumen count
long life light source.

I know this is a stretch but any help from the masses is appreciated.

thanks

Try the $20,000 and up forum. That's a large screen.

I'd say try the $100,000 and up forum. I do envy your dream.

1080p is essential unless you're sat right at the very back of the room.
I wouldn't go under 3500 lumens, 4500+ would be better.

Until very recently that meant $25K+ but some much cheaper options (mentioned here) are *just* appearing.

The "bargain" option is the ~$3500 Optoma EP1080. Info collated from various sites:
DLP 0.95", 3,500 ANSI Lumens, 1920x1080 resolution, 2200:1 contrast, Pixelworks PW392 scaler, 1xHDMI 1xDVI 2xVGA, 28dB, NIC, unknown Colorwheel speed.

It's standard 1.85-2.22 throw:width ratio is too long for you (and for my 188" wide screen).
I've asked Optoma if their "BX-AS108" 0.8x converter lens will fit the EP1080 - that would add ~$500.

i failed to mention this is a commercial app. so cost isn't a huge factor,but..... business owners tend to want a wine and cheese result on a bread and water budget. anyone recommend the panasonic 3000??

oh and not to sound to ignorant but im not familiar with throw and lens converters could one of you fill me in, pm or reply.

thanks for any feedback

The dVision 30-1080p XL from Digital Projection might work. I love my older dVision 1080p - the newer ones are even brighter.

Is the DVD 4:3 or 16:9? it's capped at 480p? Why'd you list 1080 as a requirement if you'll never have source material that high? I bet you could grab a used Mitsu 480p projector for cheap. They've got the 5k hour lamp life.

What is a realistic budget for the projector ?

No the Panny AE3000 won't work. It might BARELY start to work until the lamp dimmed, and assuming you had a pitch black room but obviously that will change.

I would highly recommend dropping the screen size about 50"...that will open up a world of projector options that aren't going to kill the wallet.
