I definitely agree that there was a plot point meeting
Some obvious shortcuts, but the book thing doesn't bother me - that's the way a lot of criminals get caught (I never said he wasn't a criminal in the eyes of the law
Remember that great scene in Body Heat
where Hurt is meeting with Rourke and he tells Hurt something like "when you do a crime there are a 1000 things that can go wrong, and if you're a genius you can think of 500 of them - you ain't no genius."
I don't think it belittles Hank, at least yet. The final scene seems obviously setting up several episodes with Hank - He might be the central focus of the final season. We'll see what kind of cop he is, but he's human too, so has to consider his wife, Hank's children etc. Should be interesting - maybe they took the shortcuts to get to where they need to be and can take their time to fully develop the end game.
Todd - you're freaking me out. I never thought of that. But ... was there ever a scene when Hank realized the book was missing? My brain is melting a little over this
