Any issue CAUSED by DVI Detective?

Well, many thanks to the members of this board, my 4850 and Yammy 1018 are now playing nice together (no more issue with lost sound when switching inputs). If other people are having the issue, here's the fix:

Anyway, I ordered a DVI Detective Plus a few days ago, and I am considering selling it, or sending it back. However, it's only 100 bucks, and I am thinking it seems like there are TONS of HTPC issues that all have the same resolution, "Get a DVI Detective". Because of that, I'm hesitent to send it back for fear that something else will come down the line a few months from now that will require me to buy it again.

Anyway, my question is, with the DVI Detective Plus (which passes HDCP) are there any problems CAUSED by the DVI Detective? HDCP problems would be most obvious, but any problems at all are what I am interested in. I don't want to add this to a working configuration and break other stuff, but, at the same time, I don't really want to send it back either as I'm afraid I will need it at some point anyway.

Those with the DVI Detective Plus; have you ever had to "mess" with it, or remove it from the cable path for ANY reason? Has it ever given you any trouble? If this thing is really trouble free I think I might just keep it and figure that it will be solving problems that I don't even know I have yet down the road!

Shameless self bump. My DVI Detective comes today; and I'm still up the in air.. Keep it.. Get rid of it.. If I can be sure it's not going to cause any issues down the road; I'll just keep it, I'm sure it will save me some hassle at some point! But if people are having trouble (like they have to remove it at times, or need to test things by removing it), I'm just going to thank my lucky stars that everything is working and send that puppy back...

Thanks for any help, even if it's just a "NO, I've never had a single problem because of my DVI Detective".

I have an older model (bought mine about 3 years ago) and I would occaisionally have to go through the power up/read the EDID (is that what it is called) sequence if I hadn't used my HTPC for a while. This older version of the DVI detective did not have an easy way to disable changing the EDID once it was set like the new ones do, so this is most likely not going to be a problem for yours. I was only playing standard DVD's so can't comment on blue-ray or other applications that might have more restrictive protection on them.

Good luck,
Murray

Well HDCP is still not perfect even with the newer DVI Detectives. I still don't have it working perfectly. However, anyDVDHD fixes that quickly. Otherwise it is a much more reliable device than the ATI 4850 that it was purchased to fix!
