Since the introduction of cloud saving with PS+, I have started back playing this awesome game once again. I ended up starting a new character. I have reached SL90 on my first play through and still have the boss on 1-4 to kill. The aggravating issue I have now, is getting that dragon bone smasher on world 2-3. I'm sure I had PWWT but the rubble still blocked my way... but other than that, I'm having a blast once again.

I'm SL80 playing a mage. Maybe we can meet up tomorrow in front of the elevator in 1-4 and I'll drop the DBS for you since I don't need it.

You shouldn't ever feel bad about bumping a thread on Demon's Souls!

Great news about the servers, though folks who are interested can still pick up a brand new disc copy of the game for less than $20 from places like Newegg...

Great news for PS+ members: Demon's Souls is free to download. Prepare to die!!
Still one of the best games I've ever played. Maybe the best. The PvP and co-op was much better than on Dark Souls (at least when I played Dark Souls...before some updates).

I have never played this game. Just added it to my PS+ account !!

Is it really as hard as they say?

I downloaded it last night but haven't tried it yet.
I'll find out tonight. smile.gif

Yup.

And it's not hard, unless you buttonmash fight your way through. Play it like a survival horror title, and it's actually pretty easy.

(except invasions, those will scare the crap out of you and get the heart racing)

Listen to what Tyrant says.

If you try and play it like a melee button-masher game, you will likely die repeatedly and eventually quit before completing the first level. It probably took me 2 hours to complete the first level the first time I played the game, but I only died once. Basically I walked slowly and peeked around every corner.

The key is to isolate enemies and try and fight as few at a time as possible. If you just sprint down corridors and try to run past enemies, you'll end up fighting 4-5 at a time and die.

And there are certain enemies you shouldn't fight even though they are on the first level. You'll find that out on your own though wink.gif

That's what made me stop playing. I got to a knight on a bridge and he wouldn't die after being hit 30 times. I sold the game and later found out I wasn't supposed to fight him yet. I still can't wrap my brain around that. If I come to a bad guy, him or me is supposed to die. Figuring out who to avoid didn't seem like fun. I'll try it again one day though since I got the free PS+ dload.

Thinking about starting this, I've been reading up and heard that in addition to tough enemies, what really makes the game hard is that the game essentially punishes you when you die in that you lose all progress and currency in the level (no checkpoints or manual saves) and you respawn with half your health.

If you've only played the sequel, is it worth it to try the first one?
I started yesterday and guess what? I died,....a lot. lol
My first death was against that Vanguard at the beginning. I did some research on how to defeat him,.. And you're suppose to die there.

After few hours, somehow I didn't find it frustrating at all the amount of times I died. It was my fault all the time because I didn't time my attacks or my blocks right.
Great, can't wait to play more.

I enjoyed Demon's Souls more, but the whole "tendencies" thing is really really hard to cope with. If you have an obsessive need to find every little thing in the game like I do, that game will drive you insane. To this day, I can't believe people were able to figure out some of the things that are in the wiki.

Developers have said that for the Dark Souls sequel they will make a strong effort towards making all that kind of stuff very easy to understand for the average player.

You lose all currency and you start from the very beginning of the level. However, you have the ability to regain 100% of the currency if you can make it back to the spot where you died. Since some levels have shortcuts that open up after you progress to certain points, it can be pretty easy to get back to your "soul" sometimes. Other times it can be difficult. If you die again before you get back there, you lose out on that currency forever.

You spawn with about 75% health when you're in "soul" form. Either that or you spawn with 50% health, but if you put on a certain ring, you can add 15-25% more health. But you're not always in body form (100% health) anyway, so sometimes when you die you'll end up with the same amount of health you had to begin with. The tradeoff is that when you're in soul form (reduced health), you're attack power increases somewhat (maybe 15% or more).

This is probably confusing if you haven't played yet, but you'll get it eventually.

Woaaa, I think I'll take a break lol. I don't have much time and patience right now. This game is punishing. I though I went far,...more than an hour then died. Restarted the level all over again,.. I admit I rushed a bit. And died again...
Not saying I don't like it,.. just not for me as of right now.

Greed always gets me in these kinds of games.

Greed is what makes this game so addictive. Trying to get all of the special rings and weapons that come with the different world and character tendencies will have you playing for hours longer than you expected to.

Hours? More like months. I can still close my eyes and replay the farming run in 4-3 for that accursed Pure Bladestone.

lol...oh the pure bladestone farming days. That was one compulsion I avoided.

But when I said "hours", I meant per night. There were so many nights where I said "i'll stop about 9-10PM" and ended up going til 2-3AM because I figured I was 'this close' to getting that last chunk needed for a weapon upgrade!
