DVD's from My Movies only play for ~20 mins

I have a strange problem with a recently built G45 mobo based HTPC. It's running My Movies inside of VMC. I also have Arcsoft TMT installed. When I play a movie from inside of the My Movies interface in VMC it plays fine, but after about 20 minutes or so stops playing and drops back to the my movies interface. Anybody seen this issue before???

Thanks!

Yes, I experienced this last night with a G45 based HTPC that I just put together.

I ripped the DVD using MyMovies and AnyDVD and played it through media center.

I didnt have time to investigate, but I did have this exact problem. If you find a solution, post here. I will do the same.

Darn... no one has had this happen?

Anyone have any ideas?

It isnt any powersaving stuff getting in the way.

I repo'ed the problem last night. Tried backing up when the problem happened, and playing over the same spot, and it WOULD NOT crash the second time through the same spot.

Really strange.

If you are only getting between 15 and 20 minutes of playback, it could very well be that the program is only playing the first .VOB file then falling back to the desktop without moving on to play the next .VOB file in the Video_TS folder.

I don't know why those programs would do it, or what G45 has to do with it, but the 20 minute duration sure sounds about right.

I would open the first .VOB file by itself in a video player and investigate where that .VOB actually ends. Then see if that is the same spot your regular player is borking at when trying to play the whole video.

That's odd, I have copied lots of movies with my movies and any dvd and played them from my movies in VMC and they play fine, except for the audio. That's why I got Arsoft Total Media Theater and fixed all my audio problems. I just choose to play all my movies in my hardrive from Arsoft TMT and they play excellent. I think Suntan could be right though.

Thanks for the ideas...

I think I may have fixed it by installing a x64 codec pack. I watched about 2 hours of video and it didnt happen again. In the P5Q-EM thread some people were saying that 64 bit vista can act funny since its using 32 bit codecs... eh.

If the problem pops up again I will try 32 bit vista.

I'm still fighting this issue! I created this thread over at thegreenbutton.com and I created this other thread over at the My Movies forum but I'm still searching for an answer. I don't think it's .VOB file related since it happens at different places every time. I'm thinking it may be network related since as I stated in the greenbutton thread, when I copied the VIDEO_TS folder over to my local HTPC hard drive (and then re-linked the folder in the My Movies database manager) it plays fine without ever getting this random stop.

Knowing that it might be network related though doesn't help since I still don't know how to fix the problem. Please help! I'm getting desperate. All the kids DVD's are played this way and I just can't take the whining any more!

Is it over wireless or wired ?

Gigabit wired. It had been going over the home's structured Ethernet wiring and was going over some pretty long distances so I moved the server right next to the TV. Now it only goes through 2 3' cables and a hub but it didn't cure the problem.

Well I installed TheaterTek last night thinking an entirely new DVD player application might help the issue. It did not. In fact, TheaterTek normally prompts me if I really want to exit the application when I end a movie. When the problem occurs, it just exits and drops back to the My Movies interface. Minimizing VMC shows that the only thing running is VMC. How is this possible? How can something be closing both the Microsoft DVD player app, and Theatertek randomly? I'm now thinking this isn't a network glitch.
