Also, I am running HDMI. Only LPCM seems to be affected. TrueHD so far seems to be OK.
Is anyone noticing an LFE issue with HDMI?

DTS-HD MA 7.1 definitely works as it should though...I just tried the Pan's Labyrinth HD DVD tonight and everything was a-okay.

Secondary Audio is definitely OFF. Besides, if it weren't, the BD35 wouldn't be spitting out a 7.1 signal (as indicated by the Onkyo), would it?

Agreed. But that was the question that Panasonic Japan asked me when I reported the problem so I thought I would pass that along.

It's really odd because I've used the exact same player hooked up the same way, but to a Pioneer receiver with no problem whatsoever in the PCM 7.1 tracks, which is why I think it's more of a receiver problem.

Panny, Pioneer, and back to Panny. We'll see how this one fairs compared to my 51FD.

Aetherhole, what didn't you like about your PIO 51FD?

The why include such a sound test in the player itself. In any event, the sound is much better and there is volume coming in at the rear speakers, they are just a bit too far from the viewing area so I will have to tweak them through the pre-amp before the signal goes to the digital processor (assuming that works).

For those who are struggling with LFE and bass management I suggest you read Bob Pariseau's dissertation here.

Hmmm... I think maybe the analog audio output settings are for those who use the analog audio outputs?

I just checked it out but it seems to only address LFE volume (unless I missed something).

It almost seems the LFE not crossing over properly?

I replaced a Panny 10A with a 55 and am using the 5.1 analog out (on both). With the 55 I not only noticed the LFE volume to be impacted on certain discs but also as if it was not crossing over properly. As I said on Kill Bill with the disco music at the end fight scene I was getting 0 LFE output and my sub was not responsive to any level of volume increase. I know this was not the case with my 10A (which was connected the same way to the same receiver) so I'm wondering if it may be a bug with the 55?
The player must not be doing the LPCM properly because after reading Bob's post, it does seem that it is about 5dB too low.

I've confirmed that it is only for LPCM. Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA are fine in the bass department.

Do you mind if I ask how much you paid for it? I had one sitting in my shopping cart at around $340.00, then this evening before my very eyes there's a banner at the top of the page telling me the price increased to $399.00! I can wait, as this is a Christmas gift, so hopefully the price will drop again.

Edited to add: Just popped on Amazon a few minutes after midnight and wouldn't you know it? The price went back down to $333.00. Nice.

I actually paid full for it, but I have heard Amazon has an unadvertised policy where they refund any difference if a price drops within 30 days of your purchase, so I'll have to test that out.

I purchased a BD-35 after having Sony SD DVD's and one BDP-S300 Sony Blu-Ray. I have noticed on the "screensaver" the Sony always put one up when the player was in pause for more than, say, 10 minutes. The Panasonic does not. The one and only difference between screen saver on or off that I can see is grey bars at the sides of a 4:3 image vs. black otherwise. No crude "motion" screensaver that the Sonys would produce. I'm wired HDMI into a Yamaha RXV-1800 and then HDMI to the Sony 40XBR4 television. Since it's LCD I suppose it might not matter that there is no crude computer-like screensaver, but thought I'd ask. As it is, set either way, I can leave an image on pause for a half hour or more - and nothing happens. In all other respects the 35 does an excellent job on BD and SD. Thanks!

I have a question : by applying the US firmware file to a region B / zone 2 player (bought in Europe), would that make the player switch to region A / zone 1 ?
It works with the sharp unit (BD HP20) (not reversible though). Does it work the same with panasonic players ?

I'm shocked that the new BD35 Panasonic still has this bug from 2007's BD30!

Concerning the native 7.1 LPCM issue (no rear sound, HDMI, bitstream=on) with the xx5 Onkyo series and the Integra DTC-9.8, has anyone tested a different blu-ray player with these receivers/processor?

Your experience does not match mine because "screensaver" is indeed an option that you can turn on and off.
Also, even though I have scrnsaver set to off, I DO get a static "Blu Ray logo" screen when in pause mode for just a short time, like two or three minutes. As a matter of fact just a couple of pages ago on this thread ,some folks were posting about difficulties getting the palyer to come out of this pause-screen mode (hit "Enter" or "Menu").

The 35 is in this week's Future Shop flyer, but it's not on the main web site yet: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...Flyer_Tracking

It's a bit more expensive than I thought it would be, but if you click on Buy Now it adds the Incredible Hulk BD for free. Not sure if it's in the stores yet.

Since last Friday the 17th, I just received the one I order on Tuesday the 21st, and I enjoy it everyday.

Yup. 7.1-ch PCM works fine to the x05 receivers using the PS3. Same title ("3:10 to Yuma").

The Sleeping Beauty promotion website is back up and running (I don't think anyone's mentioned that in recent days):

http://www.panasonicsleepingbeauty.com/

After reading over the coupon closely, I do think this will only be good for the 35 (they specifically state the 35 and $299). Also, as has been pointed out, it might not work for mail orders, unless you happen to live in the same state as the place you ordered it from. I've never seen this kind of verbiage on any rebate offer before: "Store receipts must emanate from same state as consumer address". I'll be curious to see how many people do not get the free discs because they bought online.

That policy ended a month or two ago. It was an advertised policy which was also advertised when it ended.
although it will still apply to any products pruchased before the date it ended. I have a few preorders I ordered where it will still be in effect.

I bought the BD-35 for $299 on 10/28/08 and the next day it dropped to $286.03. I called amazon and they refunded me the difference as a "one time offer". Well now today it's $273.96. I'm not gonna call again because I don't think I will be able to get another refund. Plus I'm enjoying the BD-35 and would have paid $299 for it anyways. So call amazon if you want a one time refund for a price match...they told me if I would have waited 7 days that they would not be able to approve the refund...go figure.

I just want to make sure it's not just the way the movie is. I am very happy that all other movies seem to have been fixed.

SNSGUY

So you only see the audio delay on The Hulk? Is it only in the menu, or it it through the whole movie?

ps: Took the liberty of cross-posting your solution on the 650 thread. There were a lot of people over there concerned that your 2007 firmware update had caused the problems....

I'm glad i canceled my amazon order. I used an 8% off coupon at Circuit City plus got 24 months no interest on it. i just hope this new firmware solves my BDLive problems.

I tested my 9.8 with the BD30 and played "3:10 to Yuma". It worked fine. Sound from all 7.1 channels. I'm waiting for my BD55.

I saw those posts as well. The only time I see the blue static Blu Ray screen is if the player is doing nothing (as in no disc). I really like this player but am wondering if I should now become another "exchange it before it's too late" crowd, it surely won't damage the LCD but then again it just plain does not work... and I just applied the new firmware yesterday, didn't think to try it now... thanks for your response.

I've had my BD35 for about a week now. I've had a few problems with it and since this is my first Blu-ray player I not sure about some things. I was hoping someone could answer a few questions.

1. Are all Blu-ray players kind of glitchy?

2. Why are the players so slow at loading?

3. The buttons on the remote respond differently for DVDs and Blu-rays, i.e. menu buttons, is this normal?

4. Is there a way to go directly to a DVD menu with single button push on the remote?

5. When playing the movie Run Fatboy Run the video is very jumpy, has anyone else noticed this?

I know this a lot of questions but I'm debating whether I should return the player for a new one or exchange for the Sony BDP-S350. Any help deciding would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Nope. To get to the menu (not the top menu, but the most recent one) press Sub-menu, then choose "menu".

I wish they had mapped this function onto one of the other buttons. Popup menu would have been a good place for it, since that does not apply on SD-DVD.

EDIT: if you want the top menu, you can press "Top Menu" or select top menu from the submenu.

I did some more testing last night and this definitly seems to be more of an issue with LPCM onver analog. Although the LFE needs about a 5-8db increase for other tracks at least it sounds like it is crossing over where it should. The uncompressed pcm track just seem like only the deep bass is being output.

Anyone else experiencing this with the 55, 5.1 analog, and LPCM? I'm thinking of contacting Panasonic... I love everything else about the player and hope they can correct this with firmware but I don't know that I'll keep it if they can't. Too much hassle with the audio compared to how easy my 10A was.

5. When playing the movie Run Fatboy Run the video is very jumpy, has anyone else noticed this? Never have seen "Run Fatboy Run".

Thanks!
