Denon's site shows it has HDMI input and TrueHD/DTS-HD MA support; unless you must have the DivX playback stuff, the DMP-BD35 will work perfectly. The only things the 55 adds are DivX support, multichannel analog out, digital coax out and the supposedly improved analog output section (which if you're using HDMI, is irrelevant to you anyway).

It doesn't look like th HDMI connection is losing sync because the display on the reciever doesn't change during the dropout. I tried a different cable without change; although they are both monoprice cables. Any suggestions? Someone in the Marantz thread said they had the same problem with this player with both Bitstreaming and LPCM; what's everyone else's experiance? Is there a bug with this player and the HD codecs/HDMI?

I've got a Marantz SR7002 with H38 as well as the BD55. No audio dropouts with my setup using PCM or Bitstream. I don't have Batman Begins on Blu (bought it red) but other movies I've played have no problems.

I have a Samsung 8 Series (850), which does 120 Hz refresh. I hooked up a Panasonic DMP-BD35 blu-ray player, and I cannot turn on the 24p setting. It is always grayed out.

I have the BD player running into a Sony Receiver.

I had a PS3 and it was able to display 24p, so I know my TV can handle it. How can I get this setting turned on the BD35?

Thanks.

Have you turned AMP to off? That is a requirement of compatibility.

I know you have to turn AMP off to get 5:5 pulldown, but shouldn't it still accept 24p material with AMP on?

Yes, the AMP is turned OFF. Still the 24p Output option is grayed out. Could this unit be defective? Or, does it have to go back and I buy another brand?

Connect the player direct to your monitor and see how that goes.

I did that...still grayed out. I thought the passthrough with the Receiver could have caused an issue, but that's not it.

This has to be something with the BD player. As I said, the PS3 worked fine.

Sounds like this needs to go back

There's been previous posts about Samsung not quite following the rules in their implementation of 24f and Panasonic insists they are doing it correctly and Samsung needs to modify its firmware. if the Panasonic doesn't get the correct message, it grays out the choice.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if the Samsung TV is the real culprit. Honestly, I think the 850 is a piece of crap in several regards. The PQ can be awesome, but with the IR issues and now this, I never would have bought this TV. I'm outside of my return window som at this point I am stuck with this TV set.

I also upgraded the firmware to .04, which was a complete disaster. The PQ was so bad after that, I had to have Samsung come out and replace the circuit board on the TV. So, I'm back at firmware .02 and never again will I upgrade firmware on this set.

Does anybody have a Samsung 850 with a blu-ray player that outputs 24p? Perhaps I can go exchange the Panasonic BD35 for the new Samsung model?

Do a reset of the player.

My Sammy A750 handles 24p very nicely. But I do have to force it in the players, can't use any "auto" settings.

If the Sammy has any HDMI CEC type settings enabled, try turning them off. Same for the player.

I'm pretty sure that it is grayed out because the player outputs 60hz until you play a disc that is 24hz.

Play a 24hz disc and look in the upper left corner of your tv and see what resolution it claims to be receiving.

Also, if you want to use deep color (which doesn't really matter) you have to use movie mode.

hi guys. sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but a simple question: i have been doing a lot of research on the blu-ray players out there, and am very close to pulling the trigger on the panny dmp 35. my only concern/question at this point is am i making a mistake to get a blu-ray player at all if my tv is not 1080p? would it still be a worthwhile investment to get the panny, if it is connected to a 720p tv? any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.

You'll love Blu-ray with a 720p set. I certainly do.

Depends on your seating distance vs screen size as well as your current DVD abilities.

On my 720p projector (126" image), I can see a difference with Blu Ray, but honestly the difference isn't great. I think it's because I use a Pioneer Elite DV59-AVI DVD Player, which is arguably one of the best upconverting DVD players there is. Blu Ray looks much better on my 1080p 65" display in the living room, even at 12'. If I had a 50" 720p TV and was sitting further than 7' away, I doubt I'd see much of a difference.

I'm considering a BD55 for his decoding of hd audio on analog outputs.
I see, by his specs, that it lacks "direct source" mode (BD30/50 have direct source for HD and SD discs).
This will result in a lack of quality?
Anyone compared the PQ of BD30/50 to BD 35/55 (especially in HD)?
If yes what's the result: the same, better or worst?
Thanks for any input.

Hello. I looking for some advice on buying a new receiver that will match up to my new BD-35. I have been researching to find out if I can buy a lesser priced receiver such as the Onkyo TX-SR506, and not loose out on HD audio formats available on Blu-rays. Since the BD-35 already has DTS-HD MASTER AUDIO decoding abilites built into it, I am wondering why I would need to purchase a receiver, that also does this? Pros and Cons? Also, would any quality reciever that has HDMI inputs and outputs accept the coded DTS-HD Master audio and do a good job with it? You see, I really don't want to spend the extra $ and pay for HD Master Audio twice if if don't need to. Would someone please elaborate for me and possibly reccomend a few receivers / speakers? Thank you all very much. This was my first post in this forum.

I had to do the same thing. However, I would not say that BD-Live worked "flawlessly" for me. I have a Sandisk Ultra II 2 GB SD card in the BD-55. When I put in a copy of Hell Boy 2 and opened up BD-Live, It all seemed to work. Although, for me it takes way to long to access way to little content.

But, that is not why I post. When playing the trailers, they will load and start playing. But, they pause after a short time. When I finally get it to play again, the sound is gone. Anyone else had this problem? I have a really solid internet connection. But, only 1.5-8 down and 256 up. But, it is consistent. Thoughts as to why this is happening?

I can tell the difference between the Sony s300 and the BD-55k on my 119" screen. Is it night and day, no. But, the BD-55k is better. And, if you are a renter the price points on the BD-35 this holiday season are low enough to just go ahead. Pull the trigger and enjoy.

If you are not a renter, then the price of the Blu-ray discs may render the advice I just gave is null and void.

Go for Denon 1909. Go to Denon thread and search for J&R deal.

Would I be correct to assume that I should also do the same thing? (Change Speaker setting in the 7.1 section to large) I have the BD55 paired with a Denon 3803 connected via the 7.1 Analog out. Speakers are Sapphire ST 2's. The crossover in the Denon is currently set at 80 Hz. Subwoofer boost on analog = +10dB.

Hey Guys,

Newbie here who needs some serious help.

I was messsing around with my set up on my Panny Blu-Ray last night. I was in the Setup mode looking to see how the Display was set up. Under the HDMI connection I drilled down to the various resolution settings. There were several picks different than the Auto mode which was what the player was setup for.

Under the different resolution choices there werre astericks beside everything escept 1081i. Well I tried the 1080i and now I have a problem. When I exit the Setup mode I get a "No Signal" and a black screen on my Panasonic THK display.

The major issue is now when I try to get back into Setup mode the Panny display always has the black screen with the "No Signal" on it. I know the Blu-Ray player is working because it has "SETUP" on the player display yet I only have the black screen.

Any ideas? I got a disappointed 3 yr old who is wanting to watcj her new Wally DVD this morning.

Thnaks,
Dave

Greetings everyone. Sorry if this has already been asked & answered, I did a search and it seems like a lot of information to read through & deseminate.

I have the Panasonic BD55 and an older Harman Kardon receiver with 7.1 analog inputs. I want the player to decode Dolby TrueHD & DTS HD and send it out over analog cables. Currently, my settings are:

Digital Audio Output set to PCM (both DTS & Dolby)
Secondary audio - off
PCM down conversion Off
Downmix Surround encoded
HDMI audio out - Off
Analog Audio Out - 7.1 Channel

Are these settings correct?
Thanks for the assist

The manual is your friend.

P.32 explains the * you were seeing. Hint: those are the resolutions that your display will accept. :-)

P. 38 in the troubleshooting section will tell you how to reset to the factory defaults so you can start over.

You need a receiver that will process MPCM via HDMI. The 506 will not, it's only an HDMI switcher, no processing applied.

Beginning with the 2007 lineups, you're not likely to find many receivers that accept PCM via HDMI that don't also include TrueHD/DTS-HD bitstream decoding. The only current gen I've seen are the Yamaha RX-V463/563. The 463 is a 5.1 unit only, while the 563 is 7.1. Not sure how street pricing compares with the Onkyo 606, their first unit that does HDMI audio, including native HD decoding. The 606 does include Audyssey room correction that the Yamahas do not. There are a couple of outlets for getting Onkyo refurbs that still have x05 (2007) units showing up for really good prices from time to time.

Even Blu on 720p will be an improvement over SD-DVD upscaled. Think about it this way, with upscaling from 480p, the scaler is "creating" the image by interpolating lines to get from 480 to 720. By being 1080 to start, Blu will always have more "real" resolution since the content was there to start with, just some had to be thrown away to downscale to 720.

As far as 720 vs 1080 with a 1080 source. Here's an article with some good information on the parameters (screen size, viewing distance, vision) as they relate to seeing a difference between 480/720/1080.
