I know they have magnets inside. I've played around with them. It's still not a good idea to have HDD's close to other magnetic sources. It's the low-level formatting that gets screwed up. Many iPods have died this way.

The magnets in a modern hard drive are exerting many many many more oersteds on the platter than you'll get from placing even the largest of subwoofers a couple of feet away. I'd put a drive inside my subwoofer with little worry if I could be sure it wouldnt come loose and damage the speaker.

The PB13 Ultra is
Size: Approx. 27” D x 20.5 " W x 22" H (w/o grill)

The New PB12 Plus (12.4 driver version that looks like a small Ultra) that is coming out soon is

i never noticed til you mentioned it

but it's not how the driver was mounted, more like the cone.



you won't notice when the bass hits.

surprisingly though, i now have all the grills on. guess i've seen enough
