I'm impressed with both the appearance and the performance of the Funk. The built-in parametric EQ gives it an edge in my tough room. I'll definitely be checking out Nathan's offerings again if my Velo dies...

Cheers!

I'll bore you with one more shot of our dual-use family room / home theater. The flash's reflection off the Da-Lite High Power
screen dims the rest of the image a bit but you get the idea...

So far I love it! Previously I had Paradigm SE Sub, which was very impressive for its small size (10 inch driver, 24 Hz, 300W RMS/900W peak, cube 11 inch, 19 lbs) but this new one rocks! I'm still working on room EQ and sub isolation riser (since it stands directly on laminate floor) but it really sounds awesome already.

Is it a sub or a mini-fridge or a very heavy (and expensive) end table?

Legacy Audio Point One subwoofer

There is a Hsu VTF-3 on the opposite wall....but you guys already know what that looks like.

Kappa 120.9w (there are two of them actually) Crown XLS 602D and Behringer 1124P. Great combo and put it all to together for $380 including lumber. In Tron Legacy when the bikes land on the arena floor you feel the couch get kicked. Out of this world. Spent about 3 hours dialing it all in.

PB13-Plus

have Def Tech BP7002's as well, so the bass seems adequate for now.

Using it as a "change table"?

Big is beautiful (if you can hide them behind the screen)

Sunfire True Sub Junior :-)

You know what I've learned from this and all the other threads full of pictures of people's systems? That, despite all the talk about techniques for finding the best location for a subwoofer, nobody actually seems to do that. Every finished system shown has the subs placed according to some architectural or aesthetic imperative. tongue.gif

My sub, which was placed for best sound, isn't visible in photos of my system.

I guess people do take a lot of factors into account and put the sub at the best possible location they have. I have mine at the front right which is one of the suggested locations. I have tried other locations. That picture was taken in another room as the lighting is better there. I like to avoid using the flash as I get a better image without the flash and using the "interior" mode in my camera. One is also limited by the easy reach to the AVR, power outlet etc. Not everyone can make a hole in the floor and bring a 50' cable across the room through the basement to the other side where the gear is located. Also when the locations for the sub in the room are limited, there is no point in doing the crawl test. I guess if people are also limited by WAF, then it is like "either this place or that place or no sub for you" :-)

Here's what I ended up with after going thru DD-15's and JL F-113s..............

no matter where in the room I had placed each F-113(doing the crawl, sub in listening chair ect)and using ARO,the Jl's didn't deliver in my room, lack of midbass punch ect.
One of my audio dealers had a few Velodyne 1812's in his room(and it was around 16X32 X12 H.This disc he played was Jeff beck's Live at Ronnie Scotts.
The sound was SUPERB especially the bottom as the drums sounded so real, midbass punch to die for.
The dealer gave me a copy of that disc and I figured my JL F-113's should blow the 1812 away, well I got home played the disc...........BUMMER...bottom end totally sucked.
I was NO HAPPY,week later PH the dealer up and told him probably my room was to small 12X19X7.
He said......does not matter the size of the room,To make this short the dealer let me do a home audition which I was shocked that he drove an hour and a half one way to do the demo.
We'll we set the 1812 up(no remote)as he for got it at the store, put in the same disc...BAM there it was, that sound I have hunted for years for,I couldn't believe it.
Of all subs I tried, never did I think this beast could do for music,Actually when the song kicked in,I yelled to my dealer,THAT'S IT,you know when you hear it.
Besides the superb bottom and midbass, the upper frequencies cleared up sooo much, total transformation, very impressive.
Sold the JL's thank god, never been happier.
The 1812 was going for 4,999,dropped from 15000 I believe.
I figure maybe why she was discontinued was the high price tag, size and weight(300lbs)not everybody's cup of tea, when the majority of people are looking at small foot print subs with power.
For me it's sound quality,if the bottom end can't sound realist(recording dependent)why bother,I don't care about looks,price ect,It's the sound,and she's killer on movies also,Cheers.

Looks like a beauty. I was always curious about that sub. Good luck with it. You got a killer deal on it too.

BP-7004's mains, CLR 3000 center, 1.2 side/rear surrounds
post #1978 of 2536
looks like a fun room to watch movies. I have a pair of 8060's and a CS8080-HD center and UIW RSS II surrounds, they sound really good in my acoustically awkward great room. i can only imagine what they would sound like if i had a nice room. cheers!
