Best LCD for watching sports

At least 50% of my TV viewing is watching sports, especially football and basketball. I've narrowed my choices to the following two LCDs:

1) 46" Sony XBR8
2) 46" Sony XBR7 (with 240hz)

Which do you think is the best set for watching fast moving sports? BTW if you can recommend a better LCD for watching sports please do so. Money is not really a big concern. I want the best for sports.

Thanks,
David

If I'm not mistaken, the Samsung 950 is cheaper than both the XBR7 and XBR8. Why are you in favor of the XBR8 for watching sports? What makes it better than the XBR7?

LED Backlight.....

Cnet reviewed both Samsung 950 and Sony XBR8 and the Sony won by comparison but it isn't worth an extra 2k or so. I really don't know much about the XBR7 but it's pretty much the same as the XBR6 with 240hz. You shouldn't really confuse the 'MotionFlow' with 120hz, in fact, some say that there's no significant difference between the 60hz and 120hz. I think it would be best to get a television that has a motion enhancer like Sony's MotionFlow or Samsung's Auto-Motion Plus, etc...

But try getting the 950 because it's not worth spending 7k. You can buy the Samsung for 4k and use that extra money for your audio system or for anything else. I would buy the XBR8, but a lot of people just don't have the money for it, and since moneys not a concern for you, you can decide to get the XBR8 if you want.

AND YES the 950 and XBR8 have LED Backlighting!

Well no one will really be able to do a comparison with the XBR7 yet except for maybe someone who was actually at Cedia this year. However considering the XBR8 is pretty much top of the class of the LCD world you really aren't going to get much better of an LCD, for sports or any other viewing for that matter.

With that being said though HDguru did a test of the Samsung 950 and found that with activating the display’s Motion Plus control and setting the interpolation (called Auto Motion by Samsung) to low it was the only LCD to ever achieve 100% of a moving images detail. He has yet to test the XBR8 and it is also noted that any other setting other than the one mentioned gave much lower results. You can see a list here on motion resolution results.

the sony xbr7 comes in three sizes (there is no 46" xbr7):
40 xbr7 msrp $2700
70 xbr 7 msrp $20,000
both these come in the xbr8 style.
they are both regular lcd panels with 120 Hz and WCG-CCFL backlighting.

AND ALSO
52 xbr 7 this is the one with 240 Hz WCG-CCFL backlighting.
msrp still not disclosed yet.
this is in the style of the xbr6.
available 10 january 2009 iirc

just go to www.sonystyle.com to see what is available and the msrp prices ($5000 and $7000 msrp for the 46 and 55 xbr8 btw). be aware that the xbr7 and xbr8 are price protected with sony requiring dealers not to discount the msrp or risk losing their authorized status. we will see if they end up lowering the msrp to meet economic and market conditions.

also for manuals and spec sheets, click on the customer care link at top of sonystyle page and navigate to manuals etc to find the owners manuals and specifications sheets for the models you are interested in.

since money is no object, than i think you owe yourself the opportunity to include the 2 xbr8's. the new cnet review calls out the xbr8 as their new best lcd. the innovative 3-color LED backlighting is apparently very impressive. go read it for yourself and see what you think. also go to the owners threads on this forum and ask your question of those guys and see what you find. i don't remember any posts specifically along your lines there yet.
