Looking to pick up one or the other. Any comments on which game is superior. Thanks

The one that's "Super"?

Actually, I would like to know as well. The 2D/3D combo of the Paper Mario stuff looks interesting.

That 2d/3d aspect of it was the thing that had me a little sceptical about Super. Dont know why, seems a tad too gimmicky.

Depends what you're looking for. GC Paper Mario is closer to a straight-up RPG with some platforming elements in-between fights. Super Paper Mario is more of a straight platformer with generous amounts of RPG elements thrown in. Basically, it's a choice between menu-driven fighting with platforming breaks, or a platforming game with item menus and NPCs to talk to? For what it's worth, I enjoyed SPM a fair bit, but was pretty lukewarm on GC Paper Mario. That's just my personal preference showing through, though.

What I needed to hear, for sure lean more towards platforming aspects than RPG. Thanks

You know what's weird? I have both and have not played one single minute on either yet! I buy all of these games and then keep not playing them. I haven't played animal crossing or madden 09 and own those two also!

not weird, sounds very familiar

Well, frankly I've always found the Paper Mario series to be overrated/underwhelming. The dialogue is often hilarious (particularly in Super Paper Mario--one otherwise throwaway enemy complains about being stuck in such a childish-looking, colorful game, pining for the "browns and grays" of a mature game), but in terms of gameplay, give me Super Mario RPG on the SNES any day.

that's true mongo, but the story and entertainment is a major reason why I liked The Thousand Year Door (haven't played 1 and 3 yet). I considered it a kind of interactive story watching. That is also a major reason why I was disappointed with SMG. If the game isn't going to be challenging then it needs to be entertaining.

I really enjoyed the game cube version but didn't enjoy the Wii version at all. The Wii game is just unbelievably easy and really is just a long linear journey that has you doing various annoying things. I didn't find the dialog in the Wii version to be all that entertaining either. Every 4 or 5 months I pick it up again and progress for a bit then stop playing it after a few hours.
