ME: I just had a question as to the general unavailability of this title. It shows it has not even ever been stocked in quite a few kiosks around me -- probably more than ever stocked it. The answer to this is not that it is renting out. REDBOX has not stocked many many kiosks. Was the title not available to REDBOX in numbers that support your rental network?
REDBOX: Thank you for holding, I am very sorry the title you are wanting to see is not yet available near you I can imagine that would be quite frustrating. I would be happy to check.
REDBOX: I show the closest kiosk with this rental is [LOCATION]
REDBOX: Each kiosk is stocked with a few copies of the title which has been a very wanted item and is being rented right away or reserved once it becomes available. We do have a limited amount of copies of this movie in each kiosk.
ME: How close is that location you cited to my zip?
REDBOX: It says 2 miles from the zip code provided.
ME: If I'm not mistaken, titles are shown online in whited-out representation at the end of the availability list, WHEN THEY HAVE EVER BEEN IN STOCK. Please check the [LOCATION NEAR TO ME] and tell me if it has ever been stocked with this blu-ray.
REDBOX: Do you have an address?
ME: [LOCATION ADDRESS PROVIDED]
REDBOX: Thank you. One moment.
ME: This same case exists throughout my area. Please don't tell me that this title has been as widely available as all other titles. Are you really not informed on this issue, or is this the company line?
REDBOX: Every disc we receive we do actually receive different amounts of I can not guarantee how many copies are in every kiosk I'm sorry.
ME: So as the current voice of REDBOX, you know nothing of this issue? Was it ever available at [LOCATION], either kiosk?
REDBOX: I do know about the limited availability and some kiosks are still being stocked with this disc though most have already been stocked and released I am still checking each kiosk I do have to go through the full kiosk for you it will take just another moment please.
ME: I'm still here.
REDBOX: Thank you for your patience I do show at this time Kiosk A at that location was stocked with 3 copies of this disc initially.
ME: You are talking about the blu-ray?
REDBOX: No of the DVD version I'm sorry I do not show a Blu-Ray copy has been stocked yet at that location.
ME: Well, that is what I was talking about. This is true all over my area, do you acknowledge that?
REDBOX: I would have to go through every kiosk in the city to verify that I'm sorry I can't verify that,
REDBOX: Again they are still being stocked as well so more may become available at any time.
ME: OK, guess that is the best I will get. Thank you. Disconnecting now.
So what this tells me is that you have to really pull teeth to get to any real substance here. She finally acknowledged this blu-ray was never stocked at my near locale AND that there have been some stocking issues. I may be quite wrong to think this, but if REDBOX somehow was responsible for not distributing this disc efficiently, they might have informed their live chat help, to explain to customers. But if this were a choke-the-rental-pipeline ploy by the studio to drive sales, REDBOX might not be as aware. I think this may be the first example of this kind of apparent marketplace manipulation, of which I'm aware -- at least with regard to REDBOX titles.
