Latest Beta version of J. River Media Center 13 supports WASAPI+exclusive mode

I just did some testing of this and for those of you outputting mutlichannel audio over HDMI, this fixes the issue of stereo audio sources being sent as mutlichannel audio to a receiver preventing surround processing being done by the receiver. It also passes the DTS-CD playback test of bit-perfectness. Good stuff.

There is also an option for audio sources to individually, by file type, configure DirectShow playback to use the J. River audio renderer which enables those sources to take advantage of this feature, too. I put in a feature request to extend this to video sources, so hopefully that gets implemented as well.

if they have audio renderer, it should work for movies as well

That was my thinking. But, according to them, it's something they considered a long time ago and it's not possible.

Thanks, mrcorbo.

MC13 betas are in a sticky thread at the top of this board:

I can confirm that this works perfectly for Audio playback on my Win Vista 32-Bit Ultimate SP1 using HDMI LPCM Audio to a Yami AVR.

thanks for the headsup!
but whatever asio/wasapi/ds, sound output is identical in MC13 ?
the volume knob never works, gotta be a good sign ?

how do you enable that external DS>WASAPI wrapper please ?

I don't have any new entry in the audio renderers list on vista SP1.

thanks!

Does J River Media Center work well as a dedicated HTPC frontend (Like Media Portal, Vista Media Center, etc.)?? All I want is Movie/Music playback. Pictures would be a (Small) bonus as would a TV series plugin and a weather plugin.

Does J River Media Center work well with a remote (I have a Harmony, but it seems like programming it to a Windows Media Center remote gives the most functionality)??

I think JRMC works very well it has:
1) A full database style approach to the managment of your data (great for large Librarys)
2) Full flexiblity to allow you to mix and match filters for DS playback when needed)
3) Support for various RC's out of the box (I use a MS Remote but others use the Harmony - do a search on the Forum)
4) Terrific Support provided on the forum and regualar releases
5) JRMC allows you to toggle between different interfaces depending what you want to do, including a "TheaterView" front end for the 10ft experience that I use on my HTPC which looks good IMHO (see below).

Wow that looks exactly like Media Portal's default Blue 2 skin!

Anyways, looks good I'll give it a try

Try switching playback options. If you mean for WASAPI, try updating MC13. It's new for us.

Check out XBMC (xbmc.org) ... free!
Has everything you want, by default (no plug-ins needed), can use other plug-ins, and has killer skins too.
