Can I Watch Live TV in MCE2005 Without Recording

The analog picture quality in MCE2005 through my cable box is OK, but nothing to jump up and down about. Part of this is because MCE by default records the video stream and outputs the recording with a couple second delay to facilitate time shifting, rather than the live TV feed. Is there anyway to have MCE2005 display live TV in real time rather than the recorded version?

No, it is "recorded" by nature as the TV tuner would generally have a hardware MPEG-2 encoder.

It is unfortunate that MS forces you to watch a recorded copy of the live analog feed. Most of the time, I don't need to record what I'm watching or the timeshifting features, but MS forces you to watch a recorded, degraded picture anyway. Really stupid. My old analogue ATI all-in-wonder 7500 only recorded when I wanted it to; otherwise you watched in real time and with much better picture quality. Sames goes with the other TV cards I've had over the years. As far as I know, the only reason an analog picture needs to be encoded is so that it can go to the hard drive; otherwise, no encoding is necessary. Anyone know of a hack?

The recording has nothing to do with the PQ. It's your tuner card.

Oh, so an analogue recording of the original is as good as the original. OK, makes snese. Hello, McFly. Besides, ATI 550/650 is reputed to have as good an analogue section as there is.
