Question about what TV is right for me

Hi all, I've been looking at HDTV's recently and have pretty much set my sights on a 40 in set from either Samsung or Sony. Now, from all that I have read and and all the reviews out there, it seems that most people favor the A650 to that of either the W or Z 4100.

Now my question is if my main use of the TV will be for console gaming, which set is right for me? I've heard the Sammy does not perform so well for games as there is quite a bit of input lag, and having played my 360 on my Samsung LN-2353H, I definitely noticed input lag. Do Sony's tend to perform better when it comes to gaming? And is there performance worth their price premium?

I game fine on the A650. If lag is really a problem for a specific game, there are always options to reduce lag by using different modes/methods.

That's what I would have guessed, but some reports that I have read on here are kind of turning me away from getting the sammy, but it's good to know that someone that actually owns the TV is able to use it just fine for gaming.

I have come from PC fps gaming, with very low ping ,on a CRT monitor ,to now using the xbox360 fed to my lcd.
Connecting via the vga ,input lag is just not a problem, you'll be fine on a Samsung,or a Sony (which one of my friends uses).

It just depends on your personal choice as to which one looks the best to you,and which is better value I suppose.

I went the Samsung route, and aside from having the original panel replaced due to heavy clouding/flashlights,I am very happy with my series 6.
I also have a series 5 Samsung, they are both excellent for gaming on.

Thanks for your input. Is the reason you hook up the 360 through VGA cables in order to leave the sammy in game mode while still being able to mess around with picture settings? If not, does the tv perform well enough without game mode turned on? Any other input from owners of either of the abovementioned sets would be greatly appreciated.

I don't use game mode ,i use movie mode-and set up the input as well as i can, with the 360 set to 1920x1080 .
My 360 isnt the hdmi version either, but i believe using vga has less input lag anyway.

I dont notice any input lag using modes other than game, but I've never used anything other than vga cable connection,so I'm not sure what it would be like on other types of connection.

I found this: http://blog.arogan.com/2008/09/lcd-h...lag-tests.html

when connecting with vga, game mode is not available as an option,as I suppose vga is "game" mode-so it's not required.

I spoke to my friend who has the W series Sony,he connects his 360 via hdmi, and uses game mode, which gives him the same sort of input lag as a vga connection would. If you have a hdmi 360,this way is probably better,as he has full control of the Sony's settings for picture etc, while still having minimal input lag.
I have slightly lower input lag *maybe*,but some settings are greyed out when using vga,and not adjustable like a hdmi connected 360 would be.
