Infrared Receiver for new HTPC Build

Thread Starter
I am about build my first HTPC and need advice on what to use for the IR Receiver.

HTPC specs are:
- Antec NSK2480B Case with 380W Black
- Gigabyte GA-MA78GPM-DS2H mATX Motherboard
- AMD 4850e CPU
- Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2
- Hauppauge HVR2200 MCE PCIe Dual Hybrid (Australian Card)
- Scythe Shuriken Low Profile CPU Cooler
- Samsung 750GB 7200rpm SATA II HD753LJ
- Windows Vista Home Premium

The NSK2480B doesn't have an IR Receiver, neither does the GA-MA78GPM-DS2H nor Hauppauge HVR2200. So I need to purchase one. I don't need a Remote Control.

One option is a Antec Multimedia Station Basic and the other Antec
Multimedia Station offerings. A Display would be nice, but isn't crucial and their usefulness seems dubious from what I've read.

So any advice? Also on feedback on the hardware outlined above is most welcome.

Try Ricavision's MCE (eHome) compatible receiver. Works great. www.ricavisionplix.com

link doesn't work for me, but found it on google

is it the external receiver like the MS kit or internal 3.5"?

seems they hve both, but I see no faceplate for the internal receiver

can the ir+bluetooth receiver learn bt commands?

it would be awesome to be able to use the PS3 remote in VMC

My apologies, looks like they've changed their web site since I was there last. Here's the data sheet for their internal and external receivers:

Their online store site seems to be down. You can go to their main site www.ricavision.com and find contact information there.

I have used their internal receiver in three different builds and been very pleased with it. The combined Bluetooh/IR receiver (new) looks cool.

There is no face plate for their internal receiver; you need to mount the receiver "eye" behind a transparent panel or similar. It's pretty small so it's not difficult.

I just ran across the Antec Multimedia Station Basic on Directron...Im wondering how well this would work with a Harmony 880 remote (not sure what device you would consider it?), as well as the various HTPC frontends. Thanks!
