Well, I'll chime in now. I did see the RS20 at CEDIA along with every other demoed projector at the show; I'm shopping for my first. I viewed everyone except the Panasonic. They, for some stupid reason, were only showing the projector to a select few. I really wanted to see it, the sales lady at the booth was really pitching me with the specs and abilities but when I asked to view it, "sorry, you have to be on the invite list".
After seeing every projector, I kept going back to the JVC demo, off site with a bit of a walk, to compare. The only other projector I really liked was the Marantz 11S2. Seemed a bit dull but was probably due to the screen size, it was nice and sharp though, beautiful rich colors and detailed.
The only issue I saw with the RS20 was blurring during fast motion. They were using a demo disk that was high def video stretched to a 16x9 format. When I asked to see the native material, the blurring was not noticeable so I attributed the blur to the material not the projector.
Now, when I compared it to the adjoining RS2, it was night and day. The RS2 reminded me of the new Epson and Mits projectors. Nice, but didn't excite me. There was just something missing, like a wow factor. The RS20 was the only projector that wasn't set up with a lens so I'm not sure if this had anything to do with it. I would assume not but I'm not a guru.
After a full day of walking and evaluating, I came home and told my wife, "I found my projector". Wasn't even a question. While in the booth, dealers were coming through in awe. There was quite a buzz, so I felt better that it wasn't just me. I was judging based on my gut and eyes.
On top of it, when I got back I found out that it wasn't even calibrated well yet so the picture got better at the show after it was done. Now you hear they increased lumens!!
So, to compare the two models is definitely apples to oranges. I don't think anyone would compare the RS2 directly with the AE2000, so what makes people think the new 3000 is that much better? I know for a fact the new RS20 is that much better, I saw it firsthand. I would love a comparison to the 11S2 and RS20. This has lately been giving me fits and doubt.
