Please help me set my contrast with DVE or AVIA

I just bought my first projector (Marantz VP-8600), and I spent a little time calibrating it this weekend. I have both DVE and Avia. The brightness was no problem, but watched the section on contrast for a front projector about 5 times. I have to admit, I feel pretty stupid not being able to figure this out. I had no problems with my older, non projector tv, because I was able to get the pattern below the blooming point. This type of calibration doesn't work with a projector.

Any advice on either one of these discs for contrast setting would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
Greg

Just go to the test pattern with the THX drop shadow (or the grey ramp with vertical grey/black bars on each side) adjust your contrast down until the darkest black box disappears into the surrounding black and then inch it back up until it just barely reappears. You should reach a point where 1 click of your remote makes it disappear and 1 click the other direction makes it reappear. This is the semi-easy part, I've still yet to figure out how to keep these settings constant while setting the other video parameters.

Thanks. Is that test pattern on DVE or Avia? Do you know where to find it?

Thanks again

I think I may have answered my own question. I found this link in another thread on how to use DVE. Please feel free to chime in if there is a better way.
