Firewire 800 on XP SP2

I can't seem to find a clear answer anywhere...

Is it possible to get firewire 800 speeds while running XP Pro SP2?? I'm certain 400 speeds are possible with registry tweaks. Do I need an add-in card to get 800 speeds, or is there simply a limit to what XP will allow?

The default drivers damage firewire performance and drop it to 100Mb with an 800Mb device. You need to install a third party driver to fix this, some cards come with the Orangeware driver fo example (Siig's does).

Will I be able to get FW800 speed using an add-in card, or will I be limited to 400 simply because it "XP SP2"

With the orangeware driver you can get 800Mbit speeds. Unless you are using a PCI-E card or PCI-X firewire card in a PCI-X slot then you will not quite get full 800Mbit performance due to the bottleneck of legacy pci (Realistically most standard PCI busses top out at 600-700mbit and thats assuming the firewire card is the only device using the bus).
