Official Panasonic PT-AE3000U OWNERS Thread. - Page 160

That is what I a afraid of :/ I picked up the projector today for a pretty fair price with a 7 day warrenty at a thrift store. The manager said he had tested it and it worked fine. I also turned it on while at the store. I guess it turns out no one there ever tried to test it :/
What a shame, it is a nice projector and in perfect condition otherwise. I planned to adopt it into my home theater and sell my 60" plasma.

So I ended up deciding to keep the PT-AE3000u. I got the price reduced to $320 since none of the HD ports currently work. I figure, with the price being that low, that allows a lot more wiggle room for repair costs, and if worse comes to worse, I should be able to sell it for near/more than I paid for parts alone.

I had a couple of quick questions

1) How do you enter the service menu on this particular model? I saw a post a million pages back saying to push a certain button order on the remote when powering on the unit, but I haven't had any luck. When do you enter the code in? While the system is powering up, during the logo, or some other time?

2) Can anyone suggest a good repair shop? Bonus points if it is in Virginia (I live in northern VA, but don't mind driving). I want to shop around a bit on repair costs, because I know Panasonic will charge up the *** if they get the chance.

You enter the service menu during normal operation, NOT during the start up sequence.

I doubt many places actually service these units in-house. They'll take it in, sure, but then ship it off, most likely to Panasonic. I'm not sure if they'll always be upfront with how that works, either.

Edit: I decided to go ahead and set up a work order with Panasonic. Hopefully the repair costs are reasonable and not more than the projector is actually worth.
