Yep, chipset gets way too hot here. Must keep a fan on it at all times or else the system locks up. BIOS 0404.

I am using an Antec Fusion case for this build too and like you no heat issues.

On another note......................

I am having some stability issues. Using the beta drivers but will drop back to 178.24 and see if that fixes it. Also, I found that when I ran the windows Performance test I get a 5.2 fro the memory. I have always had 5.9 with this memory config (Patriot PC8500). Maybe these issues will be adressed by a Bios update. If the old driivers don't fix the stability issue I will drop the 4670 back in.

How do you like your case? I think I am going to get the same case. The price is right!

Plan:
- Apex DM387 uATX case (really sleak case, fits perfectly with my setup)
- P5N7A-VM motherboard
- 250 GB Seagate HDD (i find that I don't need that much space. I'm actually getting by fine with 120 gb right now)
- intel e7200 CPU
- Samsung SH-S223Q DVD Burner (not ready to pay for blu-ray+software... yet.)
- 2x2GB 800 MHz Crucial Ballistix Ram
- Vista Home Premium 32 bit

And all that for less than $400.

Will report back when everything gets put together...

The case is actually the only part I've gotten so far, so I can't comment on actually fitting stuff in, and how the psu works. But in term of looks and features, the front panel has that shiny black look you find on a lot of flat panel TVs. The silver streak fits in perfectly with my Sharp. The power and hard drive light shine through the shiny black, as its translucent. (I'll be hooking up my HDD light to tell me when a program is recording). PSU has two SATA plugs, which NewEgg doesn't show, so thats also good for a hard drive and Optical drive. It also has a lot of open vents, so I imagine it will be well ventilation.
Some things I don't like: It's just as long as my old ATX desktop PC. The vent on top is kind of ugly, as it is raised, and you can see the screws. I plan on keeping mine upright, but I warn you, on its side, the front panel will not open. It is also a smudge magnet.

Is anyone using XP with this board? Can you you use XP with this board?

It is what I have and I don't want to have to invest in an OS right now.

Thank you.

Using Kubuntu... does that count?

For you guys that have heat problem, Enzotech might be the solution for you.

http://www.enzotechnology.com/cnb_r1.htm#

It's compact and you can add a 40 mm fan (not included). It has a fan adapter mount included into the kit.

If I'm buying this board, I will replace the heat sink by this one and have the fan speed controller manage the fan! voila!

Well of course KDE is the front-end for Kubongo.

And MythTV SVN with R5000 entensions compiled in, driving a Dish ViP211 as slave. Full unencrypted HD record of the pure digital transport stream, with no transcoding or conversion to muddy things up.

Someone please report back on:

- Undervolting

- VDroop (idle vs. load)

Sorry, don't use Microsoft products.

Second GF9300 System built with Asus mobo. Very smooth. Works great in 7.1 with Denon AVR2309CI receiver thru HDMI.

Asus board shipped with the 0404 Bios. Perfect.

I tested putting the system to sleep and waking it up. No problems.

Yes, using XP Pro SP3 with it, no problems.

I wonder if they will enable a wake on USB? It really could use it since most wireless KB's are not PS2 any more.

WTF! This motherboard doesn't wake from USB? That makes it useless for HTPC.

Running SpeedFan 4.35 works for me.

Can't comment on the other stuff.

Any recommendations for a remote control?
Hmmm, I did not see the option to wake on USB and my keyboard does not wake it up. Could you please show me a screen shot of the bios with the wake on usb option?

Use this very old working trick

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Servic es\\usb]
"USBBIOSHACKS"=dword:00000000
"USBBIOSx"=dword:00000000

And reboot...

Really depends on what you want to be able to do. For basic media center functions, + turning on and off a TV, I'd recommend the OEM MCE IR remote, which usually comes with the microsoft blaster. They are also pretty inexpensive

If you want to be able to control more than one device, I'd recommend a Harmony Remote. They are expensive, but they also have one-button to control everything. So for example, you press power, and your PC, TV and receiver all go to sleep. Lots of other advanced functions too. MCE IR blaster sold seperately.

I actually like the Gyration remote. Works on 2.4 GHz, so line-of-site/IR receiver not needed. It also has learning IR functions for turning on 3 other devices. It just has a few weird quirks, like the volume control only works for 1 device, and some difficult-to-press buttons. But you get used to it.

If you have a set-top-box you control, you'll need some sort of IR blaster (like that which comes with the MS IR receiver) anyways

There is no "usb" key, just other keys that have USB in their name.

I even enabled USB legacy in the bios to no avail.

FYI: the USB keyboard that I am using is VidaBox Premium HTPC Keyboard with Laser Trackball.

Comments about USB wake up:

I can wake up the system via the MCE IR remote that is connected via a USB header. (not the one included with my case, but the external module.

So although I can't verify it will wake up with a USB keyboard (which others say it can) I can say that it will wake from sleep with a USB remote.

vfrjim, Did you try checking the device manager to see if Wake from Sleep was enabled for your keyboard?
I'm considering this MB, an E8400 and 4G of 5-5-5-12 PC1066 Ram.

I play 3-4 year World War II Dog Fight Sims (Pacific Fighters & a bunch of older Ubisoft titles) and I am wondering how this intergrated graphics will compare to my nVidia 7800GS+ in my old P4/AGP system.

Those are the only games I play, one other current titles.

(BTW - if anyone is looking for a rock solid Abit IS7 MS, 3.0G P4, 4Gig Ram - nothing ever been oc'd, let me know. The graphics card is a Gainward Bliss 7800GS+ "Goes Like Hell 512MB Special Edition" Golden Sample.)

HTPC will output thru a Yamaha RX-V863 to a Panasonic TH-42PH10UK Plasma

I did try that this morning, and it worked (sort of), but it never went into full sleep (fans still were on), so it wasted MUCH too much electricity. What I need is a wake from hibernation (which it will not do).

Worst case scenerio, I have a backup plan but wish that I could wake up the PC via the USB keyboard.
There is no such thing as wake from hibernation using a USB device. Hibernation (S4) actually turns off power to USB ports. The only way to wake from hibernation is via the power button on the computer.

I only have two more suggestions for you:
1) Sometimes computers take a while to actually go to sleep after you press the sleep button. The image to the screen will turn off, but it takes ~30 seconds or more to actually have the fans turn off. You may want to wait to see if this is your problem.

2) Try Media Center Standby Tool (MST) from http://slicksolutions.eu/mst.shtml
It gives you a little more control over sleep, as well as a better interface for USB device waking control.
