WOW is HD-DVD playback great? I wonder if the 55 can play HD-DVD?

It can, but only with the HD DVD adapter kit (goes for the 35 too), available from the Panasonic USA parts site.

Is it possible to do a FW update with a RJ45 Cable and a wireless Laptop, or would it be easier and better to move the Panny 55 where the router is ???

No perceivable difference at all.... However, my Samsung Display now occassionally flashes the dreaded 'hot-pink', (reminicent of Sammy 65 Series board issues) during LOAD transitions.
S'pose it could be coincidental... but in almost a year, it's not done it before.

I'd bet it's coincidental. The new f/w probably introduced a bug in the player's video blanking during transitions and you're seeing the Sammy's internal version of "snow". I get a momentary green screen on my set during transitions with both my Sammy 1400 and HD-XA2 sometimes. That normally would be a Bad Thing, but it always steps right through it.

Yeah... was thinking along that line... Hope the next one stops the problem, as it's a bit unnerving.

oh I thought the firmware update was all you needed.

For those of you updating the 55 via CD-R, what file size do you get for the extracted FRM file?
My size on disk is: 30,732,288 bytes.....is that correct?

Yes.

Kidding, nate. Thought the 8-track was the giveaway.

Manually updated the firmwre onmy 35 today. I'd had it set to auto update, but it never did despite no prblems connecting to the internet through my network.
The update took 7.5 mins. Roughly 5 mins to download and 2.5 to install.

Played the beginning of an SD disc with no noticeable difference (looked/sounded fantastic before and after update).

Any recommendations???

Same problem, 24 hours later.... Can get past 50%.

Does anyone have suggestions?

I Downloaded the update and burned it to a CD. Updated without any problems.

chix.... are you using the same disc?
My 1st burn was successful, but wouldn't install.
Burned a 2nd time .. went thru without a hitch.
Sometimes you just get a flaky piece of media.

I wasn't using a disc. I am doing an online firmware update. Very frustrating.

I am sure if I do it the old fashioned way, via a PC and a disc, it will work fine.

What's the point of BD-Live if it does not work

Burned Firmware V1.5 to a CD-R disc and it took 7 minutes to burn & to update my Panasonic DMP-BD55 with no problems.

I can't get my XP Pro CD Writer to complete a full burn without aborting. I also used a third party CD burner which did succeed, but then the 55 could not read it. I've burned numerous music CDs in the past without any problem.....

I burned an unsuccessful CD using Vista's system. Then I used Roxio, making sure I closed the disk, and did NOT utilize packets, while burning. It rejected this second disk immediately opening the tray, but closing the tray a second time worked.

Yes, that is about what it took me via disc - It's the principle though...

This makes BD-Live for the moment practically useless.... the content is not worthy and the firmware updates do not work.

I just wish it would work or perhaps I should just pull the plug on the ethernet connection to my BD55.

Do you mean your PC or BD player rejected the CD?
Did your BD player read and install this disc successfully?

BD Live has little to do with ethernet-based upgrade.

The 55 rejected the 1st disc totally, and the 2nd on the first read. The 2nd read was accepted and completely successful.

Anyone figured out what improvements ("Playability and Stability") this firmware update offers?
The firmware didn't add any new features? Lip Sync delay?

probably not....

Anyone wanna sell their CD-R to me?
I cannot seem to get a CD-R burn that my 55 will read for the life of me.
Would anyone that has a successfully burned CD-R with the 1.5 update for the 55 be willing to send it to me? (I'll gladly pay you for it in advance) If so, send me a PM and we can discuss the details.

UPDATE: Got one!
Thanks to all who replied.

For future reference, can anyone please give us alternate instructions for burning a BD55 update on CD-R? (The Panasonic instructions don't work for me)
WIN XP PRO SP2: I've used CD-Writer Wizard on over five blank CD-Rs....they all start to write and then abort before completion (around 20 seconds) with "There was an error in the writing process. The disc you have attempted to write may no longer be usable." I've used My Computer/drag & drop to my burn drive, to no avail.
I've used Media Player & Sonic Burner with both music CD and Data disk options, and I either get file mismatch errors or no output. I have burned several music CDs off iTunes before so I know my drive is okay.
What is the secret???

I used the CD writer even though I have Nero. It worked fine. Did you run the Downloaded .exe to unzip the file first? The file that it extracts is a .frm file if I recall correctly. That is what you burn to a CD.

Yes, I'm only trying to burn the FRM file. The download and extraction was successful.
Thanks.

Thanks.

My only other guess is that your burner has a problem or the file is corrupted. My FRM file shows a size of 30,011KB. If yours is different, you may want to try to download it again. If you still have a problem, I would be happy to send you my CD.
