Rented Traitor from Blockbuster and watched it today with no problems at all. I'm using the Dec. '08 fw, can't say if it had issues with Apr or Jun fw.

Btw, wasn't aware of a Jan. '09 fw???

You have to look at the date of the LG_BH_LV221BH.ROM file inside the zip file that ends up on your hard drive. The zip file itself will have the date of when you downloaded it. I just downloaded the thing again, and the ROM file inside still is dated December 5, 2008.

Sorry but this still does not answer my original question. I have downloaded from the official LG website before which is dated 05/12/2008. In fact am using the Dec 08 firmware on my BH200.

Perhaps Gizmo is the best person to tell us since he is the owner of this thread?

It is no problem Surely I am not the only one here curious about this Jan 09 firmware? Because if it does exist, I want to know where to download it from!!

I watched the unrated version with the June firmware and had no problems apart from the usual "audio seams" in the seamless branching...
I haven't tried the disc yet with the January FW.
Gizmo is mistaken there is no 8th of January 2009 firmware . Gizmo means:

BH02081205A (2008-12-05)

Or in North American format:

12-05-2008

He's also got the name of the firmware wrong, BHLV221BH is really just the filename. It's name is: BH02081205A.

BH02 - BH200
081205 - Date
A - Not America, international releases also share it

I'm not sure where he got that date from to be honest, probably the date it appeared on the LG Service Sites which means absolutely nothing. LG would've finished programming it on the 5th of December. The delay is probably to do with testing, before release.

If you really want to know what the firmware date release name is, open the ROM file in WordPad/Any Word Processor and the very first line is the header of the file. It says: BH02081205A. Obviously open a copy in WordPad, not the one you plan to upgrade your BH200 with.

It doesn't exist . You can see by the layout, Gizmo means the December firmware. It goes:

December 2008
June 2008
April 2008 - Essentially a further tested March firmware, one and only big upgrade
March 2008 (Beta, never official) - First firmware to enable TrueHD/DTS-HD Lossless support and conversion to Legacy DTS
January 2008 - First firmware released in Europe
November 2007 - First firmware released in North America

I should know. I've been tracking LG BH200 firmware releases since launch.

This is not a "known disc issue" with the latest firmware but the "Run, Fatboy, Run" blu-ray had all sorts of audio and video stutter issues in my BH200 with a very early firmware release. I updated to the latest firmware on LG's US site last night and the disc now plays perfectly.
Hi guys,
I just ran into a problem with the BD "The Day The Earth Stood Still" (the old black and white one, what a great flick!)

The movie itself works fine, the problem comes when watching some of the extra content: at least for the teaser trailer and the Fox Movietone when the thing was done and the disc was supposed to return to the menu, the whole screen just went green (but the music from the menu played). I could only get a picture again by switchin off the BH200 and switching it on again. For some other extras (like the trailer for the 2008 version of the film) it worked just fine. I think it may affect those extras which are in SD only. BTW: my unit is set to 1080p with film mode (24fps) enabled.

This is about the German release, I don't know if the US disc has the same issue.

Best regards,
Oliver

Interesting, there may be an Anchor Bay problem?

I rented RIGHTEOUS KILL yesterday and the first time I loaded the disc, it went to the main menu, then it went black, nothing.

Second attempt to load it ended up playing beyond the main menu and I was able to view the entire film.

That quote was on the first page of this thread from another user and as you can see, he finally got it to load. My copy of Traitor, loaded first time, every time with no issues.

I did notice a bit of a long load with black screen before it finally came up, but it pretty much loaded the same way on my Sony 350. I've been noticing this more regularly on newer releases, wondering if it's Jave related or copy protection???

I've been trying to get Righteous Kill the last few days, but BlockBuster hasn't had it. I'll try again tomorrow and see how it goes.

Edit: Finally picked up Righteous Kill, just finished watching it a little while ago and had no issues.

I just rented a copy of Mirrors on Bluray tonight and noticed it took a while to start after the player recognized the disc. The first screen asks if you want the theatrical version or the unrated version. There is a mirror image "reflection" of the words under the selected option on this screen, and I assume it should be the same way on the main menu. However, the reflections are not there, so it is very hard to tell what option you are choosing.

I was running the April firmware so I decided to try the December firmware. On the December firmware I experienced the same slow startup, and there were still no reflections. I was also unable to select the special features menu with the 12/08 upgrade.
Most recent firmware with resolution set to auto.

Wouldn't load "Space Chimps" Blu-ray after two tries but without trying any tricks.

Wouldn't bitstream Dolby TrueHD playing "Walk Hard The Dewey Cox Story" to my Yamaha RX-V663. With decoding and outputing PCM got several audio droputs and a couple video stutters. It also indicated incorrect chapter and time when I hit oncreen display with the same title.

The good news is that it player "The Warriors" HD DVD without any issues noted.

Fixing the list...need some news. Does Shooter HD DVD work at all on the new firmware at 1080 24fps?

It has just been reported by a member in a German forum that it is impossible to quit the sound menu on the German HD DVD of Death Proof.

I can confirm this. Once the sound menu has been opened, one can only switch between the four sound tracks and with the right or left arrow one can enable or disable the German subtitles. You have to stop playback and start the disc again to get access to the rest.

To change the audio language on the Death Proof HD DVD use the Audio button during playback . Yes the DTS HD 5.1 English soundtrack is included with this HD DVD.

It is a fantastic movie by the way, especially in HD DVD.

I played this title a bit when I got it...and I remember being able to switch between the audio tracks without issue (can't remember if it was in the menu or hitting the AUDIO button). Added anyway.

I'm currently running the newest driver (0702) and the April firmware. When I insert the disc, it is "reading" for about 30-40 seconds, then flashes "Disc Error" and ejects the disc. The wierd thing about this is that this disc used to be fine! I've played it on the current system/setup on a couple of occasions with no issues and the disc was always put back in the case immediately afterwards (i.e. no scratches or damage on the disc).

I did a little research and found another forum member that had a similar issue with his 'Disc 1' on the BH100, so I thought it might be something funky with my LG settings or something on my BH200 (I bought 'Mad Men' on release day back in the summer and haven't watched it for many months..). I could of changed some wierd setting in the meantime, so this is what I've done thusfar:

-cleared BD & HD Storage
-reset to 'factory set'
-did the BD flash thingy (not sure what this does..)
-attempted loading disc on JUNE and DECEMBER firmware (went back to April till a REAL update that doesn't strip features comes along..)
-reinstalled '0702' driver
-switched up my HDMI/SDPIF settings (usually run on 'DTS Re-Encode' because that's all my reciever can do)

Nothing of this has seemed to work.. so I guess I have to point to a disc error but it's very hard to conclude this since, 1.) the disc previously loaded fine and 2.) At least one other member had an issue with this particular disc. The set boasts a DTS-MA track, so I don't know if this causing the player to be unsure what kind of disc it is (?). Discs 2 and 3 in the set are fine and I tested out a few other discs to make sure the problem wasn't widespread and everything else seems to load fine.

My setup is a 42" Panasonic Plasma TH-42PZ77U using HDMI for video and optical out to my reciever (Sony brand - does Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 at 96Khz but nothing beyond that..). I have my audio settings now set to 'Primary Pass-Thru' since this seems to be what I should of been on for my setup). Is there anything else I might be missing or try before I conclude that my disc self-destructed while in its case on my shelf? Thanks.

Anyone else?

I tried "Space Chimps" a third time before returning it to Blockbuster and my BH200 spit it out once again, just indicating disc error of some sort. I wasn't aware of any issues with "The Warriors" HD DVD either but I thought it would be nice to mention the player did fine with one title for me.

As I wrote: this is related to German release. Although the disc is marked as Region B it is in fact region free.

Also, by now I tried the disc on my HD ready TV set (which cannot handle 24p) and there I did not run into the problem. It might only occur with 24p playback...

Gotcha. I read through this stuff so fast sometimes...

Is it possible the special features are in PAL and your HDTV does not accept that signal? (I guess I need more information from you)

A minor problem with The Hulk(2008). Paused movie while watching some of the extras. It was paused long enough for the Universal screen saver to appear. Could not resume play after that, had to stop movie and then go back to main menu to resume playing the disk. Anyone ever run into similar problem. June firmware and 702 driver.

All my equipment can handle PAL signals with no problems, since this is the SD standard in Germany. And my projector can also handle 1080i and 1080p @50Hz.

But I'll check the actual format of the SD special features tomorrow. But I have to stress that the SD content plays just fine! The problem comes when it tries to go back to the disc menu afterwards.

This is pretty well known with Universal BD's. You just have to use the arrow keys (forget which one) and it will bring up the menu and you can hit play.

Did you try pressing the ENTER button (in the center) instead of PLAY? This happens to be on all of Universal's BDs

So this is a regular DVD, not Blu-ray? At least I couldn't find this on BD...
This DVD is probably RCE protected.

If you set the DVD region of the BD200 to 0, it will not play any RCE protected discs. You'll have to set it to Region 1 explicitely. This is true for all RCE discs (most Fox DVDs have RCE, and I think some MGM too).
