LG BH200 - Known Disc Issues - Page 32

Having problems with UP all of a sudden. BH200 won't recognize the disc. I'm using the English only workaround and I upgraded to the new firmware, but I'm sure I've played it since. It worked fined on the older firmware. Any ideas?

Nevermind. I fixed it. Disc was completely covered with grubby, sticky little fingerprints. No scratches though. :-)

I upgraded to the newest firmware (3-30-2010) and I found that the US version of Atonement (Combo disc) still has the same issue that I reported back in December. No audio when trying to bitstream over HDMI to receiver (primary pass-through). I had previously rolled back to a 2008 firmware version and it worked fine. I haven't tested that many discs, but hopefully I don't find other problems.

^Gotta' be Broadcom-related...the Samsung 5000 does the same.

I think you are onto something. I see the numerous posts in the 5000 thread. Like I said though, it worked fine with an older firmware.
Likewise...I remember watching this one with older unit firmware for the same player without bitstreaming problems.

Updating the OP...anyone else find new fixes with this firmware?
Maximum Movie Mode is definitely working in this latest firmware, at least for the first 20 minutes of Sherlock Holmes. I haven't tried The Watchmen, Terminator Salvation, or Harry Potter 6 yet, but this is already better than the last firmware.

anyone had troubles getting The Box to play? i posted a while back it was a spitter for me, and rented Triangle this weekend with the same result; using new 2010 firmware, both language options, etc. Triangle loaded once, so I got excited and put The Box in (my only owned disc that won't play) boy that was a mistake, tried about 15 more times with Triangle and no luck. i know independent studio discs have more probs than major studios which sucks since a lot of the exciting titles releasing these days are indies.

I installed the BH021003330A update from the LG site yesterday and had high hopes that were dashed.

It still cannot play "Dude Where's My Car" (teenage son's disc, not mine!) and "The Time Traveler's Wife" (Netflix). Both are brand new and pristine, both spin for a minute or so and then eject with a "Disk Error" message. And both play just fine in no time at all in my Sony player. I fear there will be more like it.

I also sent a support message to LG, telling them I'd installed the new firmware and received this reply that clearly showed the rep didn't read or understand my simple message:

Thank you for contacting LG Electronics.
I absolutely understand your concern, and will gladly help you with it.
A new firmware upgrade was released.
To find firmware upgrades you can access online <<a href="http://www.lge.com/us/support/product/support-product.jsp?countryCd=us" target="_blank">http://www.lge.com/us/support/produc...p?countryCd=us>
Just Input the model number of your unit then follow the on screen instructions.

Then of course you go to that page and there are three completely different entries, and there ain't nuthin' obvious about which one is "new". But if you pass this particular IQ test of LG's (you clearly did, congrats betona) and download the right one, then compare it filesize-wise to the version made available here earlier by SM, it's apparent it's the same despite that the original "March 30 2010" firmware is now (bewilderingly) named "LG_BH_LV221BH_100330A_Apr[1].30.2010.zip". Ugh.

Yet another representative case of modern "Customer Service" policies, intended no doubt to confuse end-users thereby causing same to throw-up their hands and not even bother contacting "Customer Service" anymore, thus giving the so-called "Customer Service" folks more time for coffee and cigarette breaks...where presumably they spend it discussing how the company has gone to-hell-in-a-handbasket, never considering of course that any of THEM are part of the problem. Sheesh, whatsamatta you, LG???

I had no problems with The Time Traveler's Wife from Netflix on my BH200. I am still running the December 2008 firmware but will be upgrading to see if that resolves the following problem:

Armageddon - I see the language selection screen shortly after putting in the disc. Then nothing. The player displays changing track/chapters but nothing on screen. After a few minutes these numbers stop changing and I hit menu on the remote and see a solar flare Loading animation for about 5 seconds then a blank screen. The player display now shows "MENU". I hit directional keys on the remote and the menu options appear over a black screen. Can navigate menu and make selections and the menu state is updated and displayed but no video appears on screen. Selecting a scene using the menus jumps the chapter/time to that scene but no video displays and time does not move forward. Can use chapter skip to skip to next chapter, which shows the timeline over blank screen.

Tombstone gives no problems (given these two were released at the same time by the same studio I'm surprised to see these problems with Armageddon). Maybe my player has better taste in movies than I do. Will update to latest firmware and report back.

Update: Upgrading to the March 10 firmware resolved the issue with Armageddon.

has anyone had any problems connecting on to BD live with ice age 3 using the BH200 ?
Also having a problem with video/audio freeze near 1 hour mark (I didn't check the display for exact timing). First occurs at scene where workers are shoveling coal into huge furnaces & continues for next 3 chapters. Problem does resolve during next-to-last chapter during the eclipse scene.

Running last year's (April firmware)....will upgrade to new firmware tonight & try again. Will post results.

**Updated to latest firmware -- no improvement.

The Triangle, In The Loop and Connected still don't load in the LGBH200. The unit gives a disc error message. All of these discs load up with no problems in my cheapie Panasonic player.
I hope you guys are reporting all these titles to LG.

Watched The Box over the weekend. Disc was not recognized at first. Played another movie first (all the way through) then loaded it and it played fine. Ejected, and reloaded fine again. Tried it the next day right after power-on and it errored out.

I have this problem with a few titles. It always happens with Questar "Best of Europe" series. But they eventually load and they play OK. As I stated once before, some titles don't seem to be recognized by the BH200 until the machine "warms up." Not that that makes sense, but there you go.

Re: Ice Age 3 - I'll plug it in this weekend at the latest if nobody else gets to it.

I am pretty sure that this is the title that I needed to keep the usb stick out first, and then when it gives a warning while loading the disc initially, I plug it in. I haven't tried it since the latest firmware upgrade.

I have heard that there was a batch of discs with authoring problems and there is an exchange program through MPI. I have the same problems with playback and i guess just contact their customer service and they should be aware of the issue.

A quick side note. I had multiple instances of video skipping while watching Sherlock Holmes. Is this an issue others have been having also? All were repeatable most obvious one was when Sherlock shocks the huge guy and he goes through the door. (New purchase)
Yes, exhibited on older players like the BH200 and BD-UP5000 (Sherlock).
I don't recall any video skip problems with the new Sherlock Holmes movie... rented it from Netflix almost a month ago and watched it on the BH200 and there were no issues for us... believe me, my wife would have pointed it out if there was.
I don't recall having any issues playing Sherlock Holmes.
It's subtle...if you weren't looking for it, you could have easily missed it. On the other hand, there may be a defective batch and that's why individual experiences are differing. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...5#post18674935

I personally confirmed it on both the BH200 and 5000 in any case. I'm not telling fibs. The beginning of, I believe, the second chapter right as the camera is peering over the balcony in the gathering hall (where Sherlock first meets Watson's fiance) is the most revealing frame skippage example I noticed.

Sorry for the delay - I've used the most recent firmware, and was not able to connect to the bd-live feature with Ice Age 3. I think they called it Live Lookup, or something like that, but regardless, it kept telling me that it was not able to connect. So I can definitely verify that (I also tested a Disney title, and that worked fine.)

I agree with vinnie on sherlock and the video skips. After a second viewing the balcony shot is fairly obvious. I may exchange it for another disc and see what happens as I doubt that anyone would miss some of the skips.

sherlock holmes won't read for me, got it from netflix yesterday along with crazy heart. neither one even makes the menu, 'disc error'.

i can play audio cds, standard DVDs, and was just watching the song remains the same hd-dvd yesterday, none of those have any issues, so it can't be the drive, right?

updating firmware to see if that fixes it.

fwiw, when the firmware updates cease and i start getting discs from netflix that don't play, that'll be the end of my ride on this merry-go-round of failure. there's no reason why we should be needing firmware updates to play a movie, what, 2 years after these formats came out? you know what never needs a firmware update? a rip of the disc downloaded from usenet and played via my laptop.

edit: no dice on the firmware, both still don't play, disc error and eject. watching excalibur hd-dvd right now, no problems.
FWIW Sherlock Holmes was OK on my netflix copy. Still using June 08 firmware, if it ain't broke don't fix it. It could be your problem is not firmware related, ie problems with the laser.

Hi Folks:

The problem I have is with the Disney Blu Ray disc "Alice in Wonderland" which was recently released. About 13 minutes into the movie my audio would drop out and my receiver, a Marantz SR6003, would shutdown. So, I downloaded and updated my firmware for my BH200. Alas, I still have the same problems. Initially, before updating my firmware, the version I had was two years old (?) (BH02080620A). The firmware I updated today is the latest - BH02100330A. I checked to make sure the file was 38,935,487 bytes in size. Any ideas on how to solve this problem would be appreciated.
