After a somewhat long quest I suddenly became the Archmage of a college. Is the game broken here? A simple quest gets me controll of a college WTheck? I'm not even a mage. I've been going through the game bonking enemies over the head with a big hammer. No magic.

Well...were you doing quests for the Mages college?

Yes, with my hammer and a lot of healing potions. I'm the healing potion archmage.

Is there a way to find out how many hours you've been playing a game?
I'd like to compare this with other games I've sunk my offtime into.

What are considered the best arrows in the game? Is there anything better than Daedric? I'm also noticing that you can't make arrows at the forge, but can you actually buy Daedric arrows from a vendor?

If you go to the Load screen and select a save-game file, it should show you the number of hours played.

Except for the quests that force you to have a companion accompany you, I have never used a companion in the game, and I've been playing for about 125 hours. I have it set on the "normal" (default) difficulty level, though.

When you save the game the hours played shows. Look before you load an old save, it will show you hours played.

And once you finish the mage college's quests you become ArchMage, regardless of how much magic you use. It's actually kind of silly. I agree with some reviewers in that NPC interaction, or lack thereof, is one the game's few misses. I'm ArchMage also and that punk magician in the Jarl's castle still talks down to me. "You study magic? I wouldn't have thought so by your appearance" "If interested in magic you may want to go the Mage's College"

If interested? If interested? I'm the ArchMage, bow to me! See that firebolt about to fry your punk arse, that's from me!

I completely forgot that you can use companions to store items for you - d'oh!

I used my super mutant as a storage locker in Fallout 3 and didn't bother in Fallout:NV, so I guess my memory faded.

All the more reason to get my companion back tonight.

I've never used one for storage. I'll have to try that.

Got companions again! I waited at Meridia for 48 hours - no reappearance. But when I went back to Winterhold, Breyna was back in her room and no longer following me. I was able to get a new companion after that.

Much thanks for the suggestions to sit around and wait.

is there a way to get your companion to drop the things that they are holding for you or do you have to take them and then drop/store/sell

Daedric have the highest damage I've seen, but I'm using Ebony while I collect a bigger supply of Daedric. You can buy Ebony, often at the Fletcher in Solitude, but so far I haven't found any Daedric up for sale.

There's an exploit to farm arrows,
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

but it requires the Pickpocket perk that lets you manipulate equipped items, or you have to find the right guy while he's asleep
so research that if you want...

Actually I might go back to iron arrows as the games difficulty has been steadily declining with my lvl increases in archery.

Is anyone having performance issues with the game? What I mean is running much slower, slower reaction time or anything like that? My husband is complaining that the response time is slow and it's the leading cause of his death . He doesn't have it installed on the hard drive and he is about to quit playing it and trade it in. Any ideas or tips?

I met Fletcher for the first time today and he had a single Daedric arrow for sale...just the one. I laughed, but I figured it was the games way of telling me he at least sells them...and that there is such a thing as a Daedric arrow.

This happened to me once (and it was really bad) but it's been fine since a reboot of the 360. I assume he's already done that. Has he tried clearing the cache?

This has also happened to me a couple times. It usually only happens if I've logged a few hours straight. Once I quit and cleared the cache (and then reinstalled the patches), everything was back to normal. Hasn't happened again in a long while.

Are you sure you didn't kill her? Try waiting a little more and checking Dragonreach. If that doesn't work, reload or move on.
Do i have to buy a mercenary to replace her or should i wait and get another one in the quest line? im sure the answer is a spoiler so tag it as such.

Perk with caution

I was "perking" up my smithing and perked dragon smithing before going up the left hand side perks completely..,.as a result I can't smith glass......despite having the "perk" to do it very lame.......way past the point of reloading just going to have to deal ......perk with caution!

Could you please explain. I don't understand why you can't smith glass.

It's not really a spoiler. There are many non-mercenary characters you can have follow you. You just need to talk with everyone you see in the towns and cities to find them.

Finally did what others here have been doing and that is I raised the difficulty level. I started at adept and being at level 30 (archery at 88 ) the game had been easy for sometime. I raised it to expert then a few days later to master. Best decision I've made! First dragon fight after upping the difficulty to master was a challenge. I actually died twice. I can't remember the last time I died fighting a dragon. I had to use strategy instead of my usual brute force tactics.

Well I found out one thing, dual enchanting weapons drains those gems pretty dang fast. If you do this keep a good supply on you.

Because I selected dragon smithing before I finished the left side of the skill tree I assume either way smithing at 102 and no glass

The fact that no Achievement requires me to sweat out tough fights has kept my difficulty at Adept. Sure, with one of the 9 Falmer helmets I found and enchanted my Archery from a hidden stance is nearly supreme. Each real arrow is worth 412 damage (BEFORE the arrow) plus 63 fire AND 63 frost, and disintegrated Morokei the Dragon Priest with one hidden shot. Also took all of two shots to kill an Ancient Dragon. However, that's what I WORKED for: to make all my enemies crumble with ease. Upping the difficulty makes all that work seems like a waste.

What SUCKS is that the Arch-mage robes block the use of the helmet so I have to get a complete set of Master robes to make up for it...

My suggestion is to get the perk where Bound weapons do an auto-Soul Trap, then pick one to use to kill all your enemies. With little effort you'll be swimming in filled gems...

I have soul trap on the bow to fill the gems. I am just going through a lot more of them at this time

What I found funny is I gave Alea my old armor and weapons which had enchantment's (bow with soul trap) and also some unfilled gems. My thought was that she could trap and fill gems also but that does not seem to work.

That's what's great about this game and why it's a huge draw for so many types of players. I'm the type that likes crawling through dungeons and traveling the land with some fear knowing that death could be around the corner. To me that adds an edge to it that suits my style.
