Elder Scrolls V - Page 80

I have to say, seeing all the mods that are now available I'm starting to understand the appeal of the PC game. My laptop is only middle of the road so I can't run a lot of the texture enhancing ones but being able to make arrows at a blacksmith forge is nice.

I do still prefer the feel of a controller though and playing on my 58" plasma is much more fun than my 14" monitor.

Wired xbox controller and an hdmi cable should fix that, right? Your laptop just became a console.

I would love to have a laptop that could run Skyrim at a decent clip. I looked into Alienware's MX 11 series but the price always put me off. (I don't like bulky laptops, I'm using a netbook currently)

My laptop was actually pretty cheap, on sale at Best Buy for $400. It can run the game at high if there isn't too much going on. J was told if I overclock the CPU from 1.9 up to 2.4 it will work much better. I have an HP G6.

Back to the game, I think I broke the Mehrunes Dagon quest.

I did the whole quest starting with the Dawnstar Museum, killed the guy, made the dagger, killed the Dremora, then I screwed up. I was overburdened already and didn't bother to search the dead Dremora for some reason. So I never got the key to go into the shrine. Supposedly they will respawn but I've waited over a week in game time and nothing. Unfortunately I didn't realize that you were supposed to get a key and enter the shrine until a while later. So going back to re-do the quest would wipe out over 10 hours of playing time and I'm not willing to do that. Any thoughts on getting some Dremora to respawn so I can kill them and get the key?

My son taught me something this weekend... I thought I'd share. You guys may already know this but it really surprised me.

When creating potions, you are presented with a list of your ingredients separated by categories. These might read something like restore health or damage magicka.

My approach had always been to take two-three ingredients from one category and then create a potion. I thought if I did this enough, I would learn more and discover more properties but dang that was going slow.

What I didn't realize was that I could take two or three ingredients from different categories and try to combine them. In doing so, I can discover lots of properties and get many more options!

All of a sudden, I was leveling up pretty fast, creating potions I didn't think I could, etc. I combine 2 random ingredients... BAM, invisibility! Two more random ingredients, BAM, underwater breathing. Effects of the ingredients are reveling themselves left and right. It was really cool. Money!

Pretty cool.

Like I said, y'all probably knew this but I didn't and wanted to share just in case.

Does anyone have any idea if there is a stat (such as 2-handed or heavy armor) that governs the player's ability to retain his weapon vs the disarm shout that the Draugr death lords use?

I think the Disarm shout only works up to a certain character level. If you are above the level, it won't have any effect on you. I don't think it has anything to do with your respective weapon skills.

Did not know this, thanks for the heads up.

Sounds like great news. Some free DLC followed by expansion packs. I'm just a little nervous of the pricing on the expansions.

My favorite quote of that article though was that "most" people complete the main quest in 30 hours. Really? Is there anybody here who has less than 50 hrs in that finished the main quest already?
36-38 hours for me. If you only half concentrated on the main quest you could easily finish it in under 20. The developers speedrun was under 3 hours.
I avoid the main quest because I like to explore and Dragons make that annoying.

Gah! I got some glitch and my character is spewing smoke and sparks like a Centurion about to explode. Saving and reloading didn't get rid of the glitch.
I tried turning into a werewolf and the smoke disappeared for awhile but it came back. I hate the idea of redoing a very long, tedious Dwemer city but the only save I have beofore the glitch started is a couple of hours back.

So, if you get this annoying glitch, don't keep playing and hope it will go away. Reload an old save.

I don't know about the sparking part but if you have a certain set of ebony armor on whenever you crouch black smoke will spew forth from all over your character. Looks cool but gets in the way of shooting arrows.
My character is smoking and sparking no matter what she's wearing, including just her skivvies. I'd ignore it but in 3d person view, the trailing smoke blocks a good bit of the picture. It's annoying enough that I'll go back several saves and reload before the bug started.

193hrs and I finally finished the main "Dragon" quest. And I still have tons of main quest lines I still haven't even touched yet!

I finally had to start the main quest. I needed my light dragon armor. Armor is at 500 and I still have several perks to go...

Combine that with my Daedric Sword... All I need now is to max enchanting and make a few magic resistance items.

Anyone know a good way to grind out learning the shouts? I'm a lvl 50 and so powerful the game isn't even fun anymore. Gonna make a new character to take on the fighters guild and dark brotherhood, but I still need two more shouts to unlock the last achievement. Random spelunking seems like a poor way to go about it, there's got to be an easier way.

Both questlines have shouts that can only be learned by doing them.

So literally the only way to unlock that learn 20 shouts achievement is by completing those lines?

At least one Companion quest has a shout wall and the dark brotherhood sanctuary has marked for death and a quest may have a wall as well. Check gamefaqs for a list of all the locations.

Or, you know, the Skyrim wiki.

You only need to really complete the main quest to unlock all the shouts. The rest you can unlock by exploring. Just refer to the wiki if you want to know exactly where to go.

Sweet. Seems like just bugging the greybeards will get me there. Only 2 left to go anyway...

You could always wipe out the dark brotherhood if you dont want to do that questline on that file. (you get a pretty large reward too)

Yep, you can kill astrid at the first meeting and it kicks off a quest to wipe them out.
