Elder Scrolls V - Page 28

This paragraph in the PCGamer review got a chuckle:

"While everyone else is faffing around with how to control and restrict the player, Bethesda just put a ****ing country in a box. It's the best open world game I've ever played, the most liberating RPG I've ever played, and one of my favourite places in this or any other world.

In case I'm not getting it across, this is a thumbs-up."

Getting very close now guys. Anyone determined what race you will be playing with at first? I'm thinking either Nord, Wood elves or Dark elves.

Dark Elf for me. I fired up Oblivion this week to tide me over and started a new Dark Elf stealth and destruction magic character I'm rather fond of, so I think I'll do that for Skyrim. Haven't decided whether I'll be naughty or nice though.

What do you think of Imperial? Would be new for me but nice balance of mage/warrior. Specials and not at par with the others though...

I really need to play through it, I know its great. Now I have a reason, finish it before the new one comes out
.

Good luck with that, lol. If by finish you mean just the main story line then it's possible. If you mean finish everything, forget it man. Unless this game is coming out for the xbox 720 there's too much to do to finish that game. I loved it and I still didn't finish the game , came close though. sorta.

They seemed weaker according to the description in the wiki link posted above. I'm wanting a race that is good with melee and magic. When I actually get the game tomorrow I may change my mind.

This game looks so good but I don't have time for it. Hell this weekend I just bought Dark Souls.

Ugh, so frustrating.

I've never played an Elder Scrolls game before but this one has me very interested. One question, is it a thrid person or first person game? I've seen videos showing both so, do you get to choose or does it depend onthe situation?

You can alternate depending on your playstyle.

IGN is doing a live stream of the game right now if anyone is interested.

You choose. FWIW, 3rd person in past Betheseda games has been awful to the point of unusable. They claim they made it better here, but we'll see.

Just got a text that my game is on its way from Amazon for release-day delivery. When I have it sent to work, it is usually here around 9:00 AM, but with tomorrow being a holiday, I am having it sent to my home. Not sure what time I will get it. Doesn't matter...I need to finish Uncharted 3, so I can work on that in the meantime.

I wish Amazon would have shipped my hardcover game guide, but I guess I really won't have that until Monday as they stated when I placed the order.

EDIT: Crap...I just checked the game guide order, and now it says November 16th delivery estimate. Curses.

Any idea on how big the day one update will be? I will have to use my phones 3g signal to get it and I am really hoping that I can get it without running my data package into the ground...

WARNING: I have not read it but gaffers are stating that the last paragraph of the 1up review spoils the ending of the game. So, skip that review!

So, this installing the game to the HDD causing lower rez textures issue, has there been any new information about this? I hate hearing my jet engine disc drive so, I always install the games but, I don't want my graphics to be worse. I just can't find any information about if this issues has been confirmed and if it has, if a fix will be coming.
I've been going back and forth myself. Think I'm going with the PS3 version just to be safe. I haven't seen or heard of any potential problems yet.

No problem and fix not needed. Posted earlier in the thread.

Gamestop =150 people in line.

Walmart =4 people in line.

We had to scramble to find the game. Someone hid them with the old releases. Found them at 11:59.

I was going to wait to get this for a while (busy playing BF3, and still haven't finished New Vegas!), but... damn. If I weren't leaving on Sunday morning for a business trip, I'd have a hard time not picking it up tomorrow morning.

Playing now. Checked the textures on both the disk and hdd install. Yes textures are worse with the game installed.

Crazy. There needs to be some sort of explanation for this. Load times straight off a disc are too long. Can't play it until they fix this.
Can anyone try installing it to a USB stick to see if that's any different?

I find it hard to believe its this way by accident, since AFAIK the game doesn't know it's on a HDD vs DVD. Typically Bethesda games have utilized a HDD if present to cache resources to speed loads, even while running off disc.

Either A) this is some really bizarre bug that no one noticed.

Or B) having to constantly seek between the cache partition and the game data caused such performance problems that they decided this was the best way to solve it.

Which is weird, because if they were able to detect its installed on a HDD and then lower textures, the more obvious solution is to disable the caching instead.

So it's just weird. It requires some sort of explanation or acknowledgement on their part, even if it's just a "whoops, didn't notice that bug!". Have they acknowledged the issue anywhere?

It's surprising to read the game doesn't look/perform as well when installed. That doesn't make sense. I don't have the game yet but that is disappointing!

I urge everyone who is having technical issues to go to the game forum and alert Bethesda so they can work on a patch.
