Back in the mid 90's I have a 4 channel Alpine amp and I never had an issue with it.

When I clicked on the accessories for the amp it suggests 8 gauge amp kit(crutchfield website). Will that work or should I just get the 4 gauge?

i would go with 4 gauge. the old motto "bigger is better" will apply in this case. if you ever add an amp or upgrade speakers/subs/amp in the future you will have little worries in regards to the wiring. its better to have it there "just in case" rather than attempt to upgrade and have to spend additional funds to upgrade what you could have had from the jump.
regardless from where you order from, go with 4 gauge wiring. ensure the kit has power, ground, rca cable, and terminal rings or connectors. these are pretty standard with amp kits, but some may look cheaper because they don't include everything.
did you HU come in this weekend?

I will order from ebay on the amp kit, I just wanted to see what crutfield's suggestion is. However, I might just do the 8 gauge if it is cheaper since I don't have any plans of ever adding more subs. I'm giong to stick with one under the seat since I just want to fill out the low end and not be booming and draw attention.

Yes, I installed myself. Very easy to do, I'm sure it took more time for me being a first timer. I need to figure out about taking my dash area apart more so I can hide the wire for the mike in the dash better.
Here is the pic installed:

I got the amp kit today. Do you think it would be ok to install the amp kit & amp even though I don't have the sub yet?
you could install it now and then you will have less problems once the cold and snowy weather hits us. i just wouldn't connect it to the battery as of yet, but you can route the wires to where you need them and find a location for the amp. you will have to take the dash apart again to access the rca's so you can prolly find a location for the mic wire to wind thru the dash. let me know what you want to do. my daughter's bday party is this saturday so i am pretty tied up for the weekend. what's your schedule like for the remainder of this week and next?

I had some guys from a car club I'm in help me wire it up, so all I have to do is run the speaker wire to the sub when I get it in, mount amp and attach all wires to amp.

I appreciate all your help and knowledge for my project.
