Weird clicking noises when starting/pausing videos through SPDIF

Hi, im having some serious problem with my setup. Almost everytime i pause/restart a video, it sends trough the SPDIF a very high pitch click noise. Its so weird/high that it looks like that has potential to damage my receiver.

My setup is the following:

ASUS M2a-VM HDMI
AMD X2 5500+
1gb RAM

I tried many different CODECS with mixed results. (Internal bsplayer decoder / AC3 filter and SPDIFER from AC3filter).

Some seems to reduce those problem, but add another weird one. When playing DTS audio the video fast forward 2-3 seconds every 15 seconds.

I'm totally lost here.

Hi there

Check for audio device driver updates (Realtek? or ASUS?)

Regards

p.s. I hear an occasional click, but it's not that loud, on a old ASUS 6150 MB and an optical connection to the surround sound processor.

Does the file have a dts soundtrack by any chance? I think this is common for dts (it's something to do with the receiver's dts decoder resyncing), and there's not much you can do about it unless there's a setting on your receiver for it.

yeah, I think this has more to do with the receiver than the software or PC

Some are. But i also have this problem with AC3 files.

I think i figured out something that might be the cause of my problem:

I guess my problem is related to audio format change. The problem is, the soundcard always transmit a PCM signal to the receiver, even when theres no sound being sent.

If i play a PCM video (mp3 audio for example), i can pause whenever i want, without getting those popping sounds, because there was no audio format change.

But, if i play a video with DD 5.1 or DTS, whenever i pause/unpause skip forward of backwards, the format changes PCM to DD/DTS, DD/DTS to PCM, and back forth, resulting in those horrible crack sounds.

I believe the solution is something to disable that permanent PCM signal being sent to my receiver even when theres no sound being output.

But how? Is there any possible way to do that? Anyone have any IDEA?

My audio chipset is a realtek HD

How much tweaking have you done in the audio codec?
I recall seeing various settings (scattered across several tabs) in AC3 for the SPDIF output.

Tried pretty much everything i could.

The problem involves the change of signal from digital to pcm. Sometimes it doesnt change right away to pcm, and therefore i dont get those weird clickings.

The PCM signal is comming from windows, so i believe it has nothing to do with ac3. I dont understand why that realktek soundcard is sending those pcm signal, since in my old realtek is didnt happened, and of course, i didnt had those problem neither.

Just found some more info about my problem.

It seems that Asus went the cheap road when building their M2A VM- HDMI. They choosed the basic realtek alc883, there are two other versions, ALC883D and ALC883DTS, which upconverts stereo audio to Dolby and DTS respectively. Thats a terrible decision, specially because that was a MB aimed to htpc use. Bah.

Is there any way to software wise, force windows to upconvert sound to DD or DTS? Or at least prevent it from sending any PCM audio signal?
