added, and FYI, RB6 was amazing in its prime(IMO), but definitely shows its age... it was one of my favorite games from day one, but i have a hard time even playing it now.

This games production values are top notch. However firefights and the action in gerneral are so slow it never feels like your in danger.
The enemies move so slow you can always pick em off. So far there is no sense of dread or OMG how am I gonna live battles.
Now I'm not finished yet but I just got to Doms wife. I hope the intensity cranks up soon because these are not the frantic firefights I was hoping for.

Anyone else agree?
i disagree, but then again i dont play on casual.
I'm playing on Hardcore and i've had plenty of those "OMG am i gonna live battles".
I finished it on "Casual" and must say i agree, there was no OMG!! battles, i'll now have a go on "Hardcore".
The look and feel of GoW2 is so much better than GoW1, i often find myself just starring at the panoramic views
post #576 of 1409
I just finished it on Hardcore. It's really an awesome game. It blows the first one out of the water.

Can I ask a question? Does anyone else feel like this game is GOW 1.5 instead of 2? By the way the question is in terms of the MP, I have had a great time with the campain and co-op.

There just does not seem to be too many changes compared to some of the other major releases that I have played lately.

Not to start a war, but Resistance 2 has some great multiplayer changes and differences from the first one. For example the co-op is very cool and almost feels like a completely different game.

I guess I was expecting more and something a bit different from Gears 2 and it seems like a lot more of the same. I was curious if anyone else felt that way??

I think you can manage to read through this thread and find that not many people agree with you. For starters, what does "1.5" mean? You arent going to get a whole new game obviously, so I dont understand what you expect. Now back to your comparison, Resistance 2. I have Resistance 2......you talk about the Co-op. Gears 2 has Horde, which is also like a completely different game. People are playing this mode for hours on end by itself. Then you throw in the new modes, Guardian and Wingman, both excellent, and top it off with new maps and some great new weapons (again, all totally ignoring the A+ single player campaign), and I think there is plenty new to offer. Resistance 2? Its multiplayer doesnt offer much new at all. Co-op is excellent, but IMO the multiplayer is actually a step backwards from Resistance 1.

Finally finished the campaign. Overall excellent game. There were momments that were really dumb, especially for a shooter game. But other levels really made up for it. The last thing you ride in the game is freaking the best level in a video game in a long time. Loved it. I will be replaying that level over and over again.
I'm not done with the campaign, yet. But I'm absolutely loving the variety in this game! And the story is actually very good! I actually love the banter between the cogs, too. I know some of it is over the top, but a lot of it is really funny.

One of the best games I've ever played.
I am alread on the Hugh list, but could I be added to the horde list please? Thanks!
I've played through twice now. Once on hardcore and a 2nd time on co-op insane. I like a lot about the game, but I really don't think the story is all that good. The story has good individual parts, but its never brought together into a whole. They bring up more questions than they answer. Maybe they're trying to give you the feeling of a typical infantry grunt (being kept out of the loop). If that was their intent, they've succeeded brilliantly, but I doubt most of the public would catch on to that subtlety.

I love the gameplay and the new Horde setting is a lot of fun. The multiplayer is still glitchy and the the system does a terrible job of picking a host. There is still a host advantage. I hate peer-to-peer hosting. When some brat gets pissed and leaves a match, we all get booted. At least Halo worked around that reality by picking a new host automatically. Overall, the multiplayer is a small step up from Gears 1, but it still has a long way to go.

Well, usually the 2nd part of a trilogy does raise a lot more questions than it answers...but yeah. I'm only in Act 2 now so I can't really weigh in on that.
I agree about the host stuff though, last night our team was whipping up on another team, and the host who happened to be on the other team, quit. Bye bye match. How hard can it be to implement a host re-selection? Bungie really does have matchmaking down flawless it seems.

Maybe this will help everyone like it did with Halo's story.

yep, i noticed in local co-op if i pause the game my half of the screen turned pitch black but the other half was blueish black. when i unpaused it my half gradually became bluer until it matched the other half.

All true but dont forget that computer AI is no match for a human player, horde is great but once you get the movement of the AI down, becomes a little repetitive. I guess it serves its purpose though.

I'm switching between this and Fallout 3. Just spent almost all night play Horde mode last night.

Add me to the list! I need some players who know what they're doing. Last few horde games I had to carry my team onto the later waves.

Thats what i was talking about with the seamless MP that this game doesnt (at the minute) manage to pull off, its annoying as hell to get a match going. WHy should i need to have friends playing and have to have a private match to be able to play the MP, this seems to be what many people are coming up as the answer to the not so great MP gears2 expereince...not the gameplay, the whole setting up process i mean.

Im not saying i dont like the game, its brilliant!! But that doesnt mean i shouldn't point out the obvious MP flaws that make the game really annoying, when it shouldnt be.

But that's part of what makes fallout so great. The exploration of the wasteland. They put an incredible amount of time into the details and making it feel like its a nuclear wasteland.

I would like to warn people ahead of time though, my mic has been working about half of the time recently, so if I'm not communicating there's a reason. Been meaning to get a new one dammit...

Played some Horde last night with Mtdye & DaveS76 (?) and my roommate. We got to about level 28 on Day One and got wiped out. I had to leave after that... So if any of you guys wants to try again from there, I should be on later tonight. I'm on the hugh jurgan list and I sent an invite to AVSHorde (don't know if its been accepted yet) so anyone can feel free to invite/message me or whatever.

That was FUN but too bad I wasnt doing too well I really couldnt find a good spot to cover till the last few minutes and I kept getting cornered. I kept letting my friend play a few waves and he is just terrible

Hopefully Ill be better if I play tonight

played again last night with Robert R1, Yrd, and some others... we did 1-50 on hardcore in about 7 hours (which is probably pretty slow) but we had a great time.... only thing left for me is insane, but i dont know how possible that will be

sorry to all those that sent invites, we had a full game all night.
That was a blast! I think we can man up and do an insane run through this weekend. Atleast we know which map to stick with! I'm gonna finish up the campaign on Insane during the week. Horde a is great warm up for Left 4 Dead.
crap... i'm still working on my solo campaign, its really hard to play with enticing multiplayer/horde invites!

Learning is half the battle. Once you find the power weapons and learn to bunker down with some shields, it gets much easier imo. It was a good time though. Look forward to more.

Which map is that? So far, River and Day One have been good ones for me.

Sponge

shi* , my boy was playing wolfinstein ,and preferred the knife to all other weapons, at age 6.
he didn't grow up twisted or broken in any way. he's 15 now. plays football, wrestling, baseball and does pretty good in school.
i think as long as a kid realizes its a game, a fantasy, and that you shouldn't run around stabbing people in real life they wont grow up to be serial killers.

Security. We went through a lot of maps when we got stuck on wave 20. Security worked well for out style of gameplay (hide and pray).
