Feedback on setup wanted from the experts

Looking to hear feedback on what you guys think of this setup? Not so much the equipment I have but just the overall look and maybe speaker placement. I am not sure about the stone and bamboo slab above the LCD, maybe it would look better without or something else. The room isnt that big I am a bit of a neat freak when it comes to having things clutter free.

directly across from the LCD, ~10 feet is 2 Lazboy theater recliners. While sitting, my eyes are same height as center of LCD. Do you think I need to mount it to wall or is it fine?

Any ideas for lighting? right now I have one lamp in the corner and the wall the LCD is on is pretty dark.

I think I am going to swap out the 2 panes of glass with the black speaker grill like the middle to help with airflow and ventilation. Maybe install some fans in the cabinet. In the center now is a Wii, Xbox 360 and AppleTV.

just bored and looking for idea, feedback, comments, suggestions, etc. My wife is tired of me asking her opinion so I turn to the experts!

thanks in advance!

Who you calling experts?

Actually, I think that with your desire to be clutter free, wall mounting would be a good solution and improve the viewing a bit.

Without seeing the rest of your room and furniture, it's hard to recommend speaker placement and room arrangement.

Good luck!

I think that you've got a really great setup. Wall mounting would definitely give you a clean, finished look.

Only question I have about it: does anyone besides me wonder if that would mess with his sound field at all? Meaning the speakers are not level with the TV as much creating a bit of detachment?

The ventilation thing is a good idea too. How do you control your components now? do you have to open the cabinet? An IR receiver outside the cabinet would let you close the doors. Then if the back is removable you could take it off and let heat vent out that way (with or without the use of fans).

What brand is your TV stand? I really like the look of it.

laters,

laters,

I never thought about just opening the back of the unit up even more. Right now it is a cardboard like backing held on by 40 small screws. The back has rectangular openings, 1 for each shelf.

Right now I just use a Harmony 880 with no IR repeater. The IR has been going through the glass and mesh center without a problem.

As for the mounting of the TV, I agree that it will look less cluttered if I mount it but what are the rules for height? I usually like looking into a TV instead of up. I have seen many LCDs mounted way to high and it usually bothers me. I have a 32" mounted in our bedroom high but thats because when I lay in bed it is nice to have it up higher, it is still only about 65 inches (center of screen) off the floor.

The part about sound, I am always interested in. I love my definitive speakers and have run my onkyo calibration many times with the advice of the Onkyo 705 users forum here on AVS. It made a big difference but sometimes I wonder what others would think. I know I dont want to make the sound seem as if it isnt coming from the screen though.

My wife wants it mounted on the wall, I dont know why but she does so I dont have any problems from that side of it.

The stand is a Tech Craft Black 60" Home Theater Credenza Stand - SWBL60. It seems to be well built for its low, compared to most, cost.

Thats 2 for wall mounting, what height do you guys think? Just a few inches higher then it already is and then remove the wife's stone slab above it?

I'd give yourself a good foot/foot and a half if that's what you'd like to do. I'm with you on the looking straight at the TV rather than up. Always looked a little uncomfortable to me. Raising it that slight bit shouldn't (I think) really mess with sound quality. I'll leave that to some real experts that hang around here.

You explain that you have to chairs 10 ft from the tv but don't give room dimensions.

Your wall behind the tv looks perfect to allow you to go from watching television to Theater in the Home with a screen and projector.

Our projector lens is only approx. 11 1/2 ft from the wall screen yet it throws a beautiful 10 ft diagonal image. We also have a small 56in HD TV at one endof this room but when it's movie time nothing can compare to projection to a theater type screen.
