Pre-ordered on Steam last night ($5 off) and you get the demo. I played it for a couple hours last night. It's going to be really good.

Played the demo for about 15 minutes last night before heading out to watch the Browns lose to the Broncos.


Graphics were stellar for a source title. Love the use of the flashlight... reminds me of doom 3 type scares.

Shotgun to any limb or face, or sometimes the abdomen, results in dismemberment. The uzi wasn't as good of a weapon because I overshot everyone. I don't think it takes more than 4 bullets or so to drop a zombie.... I was giving them like 10 shots each. The crackhead zombies scared me a couple of times. I think this game is going to be a lot of fun. Very gory....I threw a pipe bomb and all the zombies huddled around it. It erupted in a giant bloody cloud of gibs. Awesome!

This game is co-op goodness. I can't imagine playing this with A.I players, online is the only way to go for me.

Does anyone know if they send you a early access demo key? I plan to preorder tonight, and was hopping I can give the key to a buddy.

Steam doesn't. They just let you DL the demo and play. If you pre-order from GameStop, you enter your transaction ID into a form, and they send you a key.

The demo will be open to the public on the 11th anyway. We that pre-ordered get an extra week.

Major issues with the demo. It stutters and stops consistantly with video and audio regardless SLI or single card or audio settings. Game is frame cap at 60fps. Have to test some more. Could be issues with the beta NVidia drivers for Far Cry 2.

I'm running it with everything maxed on my 9600 GT (1680x1050). So far, it has been really smooth using the latest driver from Nvidia.

I tried out the demo last night. It was a blast. There were some problems with multiplayer, but they patched it later in the night and it is working much better. Great enviroment and gameplay. It reminds me a lot of 28 days later.

Source games are CPU based and sometimes an otherwise stable (as in Orthos, Prime95 etc) overclock can cause framerate issues. I discovered this this week. In TF2, L4D, and etc., I was experienced low framerates that disappeared when I dialed back my overclock (E6400) from 3.2 to 2.8 ghz. That may be your problem.

could be a CPU OC issue since the system is OC'd from 3.0 to 4.28. But all the new games like FC2, FO3 an Clear Sky runs fine with the system. Will lower the OC and see what happens later.

Yeah give it a shot. I had the same issue where FC2, Bioshock, basically any non-source game ran great. It was only source that didn't work. It was very frustrating especially since all the normal OC test came out fine. Hopefully, your board has a OC profile option. I saved my OC profile in one and loaded up my normal settings and everything ran great. Later I bumped up my OC to 2.8 (from 2.1) and still got good framerates.

I'll probably spend some time this weekend tracing down the issue. I have an Asus p5b and to get to 2.8 all I needed to change was the FSB to 350. I left everything else on auto. To get to 3.2, I had to change a bunch of voltages, and SPD timings. So I am assuming the source problems are something in those non-auto changes. My first suspect are the RAM timings.

Hopefully, this will help you out. I can't tell you how much time I wasted every night for the last 9 days working on this. I may just drop the issue and accept a 2.8 OC and enjoy some gaming for the time being.

for me the CPU settings did nada. Loaded the 178.24 Nvidia drivers replacing the 180 betas solved the probms. finished the demo in ~1/2 hr. Hope the game doesn't go that quick. The weapons are powerful, but the zombies are quick also, still at norm diff settings it just too easy.

Shld of notice that when I 1st launch the game a brief message flashed stating driver incompatible probm.

Also sorry my bad...there is no frame cap limit.

well hoping there is a real single player game. The demo show 4-5 chapters, If they are as short as the demo chapter then this going to be a real short game. def doesnt like the Nvidia 180 beta drivers. Retested just to make sure.

I am pretty sure there are 20 chapters.

I haven't had any problems with the beta drivers and the demo on my machine but my roommate did with the same driver's on his. Just got lucky this time I guess lol

Yeah, 20 levels. If they take ~ < 1/2hr each, only 10hrs...real short. Now I wished I would have waited instead of doing the pre.

I've been under the impression from the last couple years of previews & hands-ons of this game that it wasn't ever intended to offer much to the single player. That's why I haven't been very interested in it to date.

Resident Evil meets F.E.A.R. ?

I would give it a shot but I think I'll be playing Fallout 3 for the next few months (at least).

Just an FYI. Valve currently has their complete package on sale for $100. This includes Left 4 Dead upon release.

To clarify: I won't be playing the demo... I'll be playing the full retail game. I have it loaded already, but i'm not going home tonight.

I played some l4D today and it is quite fun. I was a bit hesitant about the versus mode but it turns out to be excellent. I haven't had time to play campaign online yet but will do so this evening. So far, 2...er zero? thumbs up It's great on the big screen in a dark room!
